  1. How about this guy? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1195022-new-york-mets-why-they-must-draft-rhp-marcus-stroman
  2. Another bad bobblehead: http://www.zoowithroy.com/2012/05/worst-bobble-head-in-history-concerns.html
  3. Today: Howie and Josh, were discussing the use of advanced stats. Howie said that they are pieces of the puzzle, but: Howie: I would rather find out about a baseball player from a baseball scout than the cast of The Big Bang Theory. Josh: Bazinga!

  5. Bad move. Over managing by Shorty. RA is pitching well, the bullpen is "struggling", Torres can't hit.

Are you an attorney FK? I've written briefs that aren't parsed as well as that.

Marquis lives in Staten Island and has wanted to be a Met for years. He's not great but he was adjusting to a new league. Maybe finally playing at home will rejuvenate him. If not, he won't cost very much. And he can probably out-hit half of the team.

  9. Same situation as earlier in the week. We'll see if "the White Jerry" has learned anything.
  10. Don't the umps have the discretion of awarding an extra base on a ground-rule double? If so, they should have right there.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: I'm in favor of letting the pitcher bat on Earth, and using the DH in Hell. Barring that, I'd suggest sending down an extra reliever or a versatile bench player like Valdespin, and calling up a potential masher like Lutz or Pascucci. Excellent point. Did they need to rush Carson up for one game? I'd like to see Pascucci up for these games.
  12. Gwreck wrote: bmfc1 wrote: Alternatively, it might be interesting to use the DH in the NL parks only. Removing strategy from the game is interesting? I meant if we have to have it for 50% (or so) of the games, then have it in NL parks rather than AL parks, as it is at present. Believe me, I don't like it either but Selig isn't doing away with it.
  13. Evan, of Joe & Evan, suggested yesterday that for inter-league games, rather than have the DH used in the AL parks only, you could designate each season as DH or non-DH. Alternatively, it might be interesting to use the DH in the NL parks only. Of course, the best option is to eliminate the DH but that's not going to happen. I like the idea of having an alternating "DH year" given that we will be forced to have inter-league games throughout the season. What do you think?
  14. Josh Lewin continues to effortlessly weaves in pop-culture references. There must be thousands already but here are two: he described yesterday as a "blue sky afternoon" which was probably referencing the Allman Brothers song "Blue Sky." A few weeks ago, he made a Seinfeld reference that Howie didn't get. The ballboy brought out baseballs to the ump and for some reason, they mentioned that the ballboy's name was Jimmy. Lewin said "Jimmy likes bringing baseballs." This was noting the Seinfeld episode with the guy named Jimmy who talked about himself in the first-person. What's most important is that he is excellent at describing the game. He hasn't done baseball on the radio in years but you can't tell this from how good he is.
  15. Howie: "Side retired. Damage done."
  16. I know that catching a knuckleball is difficult, but if Nickeas can't catch Dickey then why is he on the team? For his hitting ability?
  17. Ceetar: The delays are tough when you want to read the CPF or follow the tweets. I've been watching mlb.tv via an app on my TV and it's at least 60 seconds behind mlb.tv on my computer. Because of this, I've read tweets about game events before the batter is in the box.
  18. ARGH! Stop bunting already! If Ronny Cedeno is deemed incapable of hitting a flyball so that you have to bunt each time he's up with a runner on third, then he's not a major league player.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: I was too pissed off last night to go wading through any post-game stuff, so did we ever get an explanation from [crossout]J[/crossout]Terry on pulling Parnell after just 5 pitches? On the pre-game today, Ed Coleman asked about bullpen use and "White Jerry" (a/k/a Shorty McBunty) said that he wants Parnell to build on successful outings. I took that as "he got a guy out, he's pitching well, so let's not push it or he might fail and we'd be back to where he was last year." This, of course, is nonsense. We're talking about the 8th inning, not the 9th, so he would have been protecting Parnell if he left him in.
  20. "Hindsight's a great thing to have." I wouldn't have written that if I didn't feel that way before the play. An argument can be made either way.
  21. I agree w/you Ashie62. My son and I argued about it at the time and then after the game. The manager obviously wanted to pad the lead but a) Niese was pitching well and had a strong 6th inning, the bullpen sucks, c) there were two out, and d) he sent up Ike Davis who couldn't start because he was ill (and if he was healthy, would have stayed in the game for defense but did not). This was over-managing by Terry and it contributed to the loss.
  22. If the bullpen does it's job, that's a sweep. Sandy spent a lot of the little money that the Wilpons gave him for that 'pen. Rauch was a good move but the rest of the moves have stunk.
  23. Yes to that Edgy. Shorty McBunty's over-managing costs the Mets the lead. Ike was too sick to start but he apparently was well enough to bat for Niese who was pitching a shutout. If there was 0 out or 1 out, OK but not 2 out. This one's on you, Shorty.
  24. Wilson Ramos out with a torn ACL. Nationals fans are questioning their trainers... can you imagine such a thing?
