  1. As mad as any of you are, imagine spending money to watch that game... and then imagine sitting in 99 degree heat in the opposing park while you watched. Jordany gave my son and I another Omir moment, and then high-fiving and going crazy with some of the people around me, that was great. And then the bullpen screwed it up again... and again. I was at the Tuesday game here a month ago so I've seen the Mets blow FIVE leads in the 8th inning or later. Sandy hired the incompetent manager and put together this team. If he's such a genius, then he should be able to find better players, budget or not. Even a bad GM like Minaya took RA Dickey off the scrapheap. Where is Sandy's contribution? Shorty has no in-game managerial skills. Bringing in Beato with the bases loaded was idiotic and we said so at the time (not after). Beato is a kid and just back from the minor. Shorty should have left Byrdak in with the bases loaded. At least I got to meet seawolf17. That was fun. I wish the Mets gave him a win.
  2. METS: Tejada-SS Cedeno-2B Wright-3B Hairston-RF Bay-LF Davis-1B Torres-CF Nickeas-C Niese-LHP Q DFA'd.
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Asked if hed rejoin the Mets if the decision were up to him, Bay said, Thats a good question. Im going to see what they say. If you ask any guy, theyre going to stay, Get up there. I just want to make sure its the best thing. Boy if that doesn't whet your appetite for hot Jason Bay Action, I don't know what will. Maybe he'll show up with the flu again and smash his head into a fence. Thanks for quoting this, JCL. He should say "I can't wait to get back in the lineup and help the team" but he manages to say exactly the wrong thing.
  4. That's a lot of pressure on Bay, first game back. You wouldn't want him to feel any heat... it's not like the team is depending on him to help improve how poorly they've been doing against LHPs. But if I see Shorty, I'll pass on the suggestion.
  5. My guess at tonight's lineup against Detwiler (LHP): 1. Tejada 2. Murphy 3. Wright 4. Hairston 5. Bay 6. Davis 7. Nickeas 8. Torres 9. Niese. Cedeno could play 2B. Thole could catch but it's not a big deal either way (Nickeas is 0 for 5 v Detwiler). Turner (1 for 6) could play 1B and then make a critical mistake that costs the Mets at least one run but hey!, they'd have his potent bat in the lineup. Torres could bat #2 but that puts two left-handed bats in the 2d half of the order. No matter how you look at it, it's an embarrassment of riches! http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/28895/ross-detwiler
  6. Nicely done Edgy. Storen might be back tonight. He and Clippard are buddies. I think they share an apartment in the Mount Vernon Triangle area of DC... not that there's anything wrong with that. Edgy is right about the lame PA guy. He's more concerned with his cute pronunciations than in telling us about the lineups. Every game, my son or I will say "I didn't know that they double switched." (Also listen for his Barry White voice when he says "David Wright.") Great link to [u:2tucabk3]The Atlantic[/u:2tucabk3]. Those going this week will observe groups of summer interns who have been given tickets to the game. They arrive after the game has started, take too long to sit down while they organize their devices, after 5 minutes 2 or 3 of them will get up again to get another beer but won't wait until the inning has ended and then return while the game is ongoing. Let's hope that the Nationals are tired after playing in Florida last night while the Mets had the day off in DC. Tonight and tomorrow, I will be shvitzing in section 113, row S.
  7. He's just back from a month paternity leave and he's an expert again?
  8. Too bad the Mets are making us hear that siren so often.
  9. FK: do you think that the starters have come back to their norm? Johan looked like a rookie that inning, walking a piece of crap like Janish and then possibly losing his concentration after Bucknor's fuck-up.
  10. Good for Warthan. "TIME OUT!" "Whatever you want, Mr. Bourn." Despite this--catch the fucking ball, Torres and Johan, don't walk the #8 hitter. While I'm venting: Pagan for Ramirez and Torres--I didn't mind seeing Pagan go, but nice return, Sandy!
  11. Meanwhile in Miami, tweets say that Ozzie Guillen pointed at bat at the Nationals dugout and told Bryce Harper "fuck you kid".
  12. Josh and Jim both said that Tejada might have gotten the ball that went for the go-ahead single... but Shorty via Geren took out Tejada. How did it look?
  13. Good point, Edgy. Instead of being annoyed or ignoring the mention, we'd think nice thoughts of Bob Murphy and Peerless would benefit. BTW, it's "Peerless"--your wrote "Peeless." That's an entirely different product.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: how is every booth of every team on the road the "Peeless Boilers Broadcast Booth"? It should be the "Bob Murphy Broadcast Booth, brought to you by Peerless Boilers."
  15. Hardball Talk already has an article on the controversial calls: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/14/the-umpires-in-the-mets-braves-game-are-having-a-tough-inning/ Deadspin has one, too: http://deadspin.com/5926077/fox-umpires-conspire-to-confuse-the-shit-out-of-everyone-watching-the-mets-and-braves
  16. Edgy: Ashie62 was only doing a Mets version of the opening song from The Book of Mormon.
  17. David Wright has had better days.
  18. You gotta feel bad for the umps. It's a day game after a night game. Perhaps they'll get tomorrow off and AAA umps will do the game so they can rest. It's hard work, these 3 hours a day. And they're under such stress to do their job properly.
  19. Good for the umps for getting the call right. Now how about reversing the call from the last inning?
  20. Swan Swan H wrote: Jayzus, that's a brutal call. That was bad even for C.B. Bucknor, who has made his share of bad calls. I'm now watching in Spanish. I don't understand Spanish but after that call, I recognized "Denkinger."
  21. I'm intrigued by Jordany, too. I can't figure him out but I imagine that the Mets feel the same way. I'd like to think that another team can use Omar Q. He's competent-plus and teams other than the Mets often need lefty batters.
  22. Don't the other fans get pissed when Cal Ripken, Jr. catches all those foul balls?
  23. Not all FK, but this one was. All-Star catcher, the batter has good numbers against the pitcher, the runner is only 4 for 7 on SBs, one out, weak hitter on deck. I'm not a Thole fan but I had confidence in him getting at minimum a flyball because of his record against the pitcher. If Terry left things alone, two runs score on the double (which requires an assumption that Hanson makes the same pitch).
  24. When Bay comes back on Tuesday, how about returning Valdespin to Buffalo, tell him to learn 2B and that if he can show some plate discipline, he has a good chance of being the everyday 2B in 2012.
  25. Make the frigging throw to first and catch the frigging flyball. And don't steal against an All-Star catcher.
