  1. I don't think that I want to play this season. Sorry.
  2. Hit 2 HR's in his Citi Field Mets' debut with his Mother in attendance (8/4/22): https://www.mlb.com/video/tyler-naquin-homers-twice?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-sharehttps://www.mlb.com/video/tyler-naquin-homers-twice?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share
  3. "Do you want games to be longer or shorter?" "Define 'long' and 'short'." "Just answer the question." "Uh, shorter." "Great, then we'll make the Ghost Runner rule permanent because you want it!" "I don't want THAT!" "You should have said so." "You didn't ask." "Right, so we did what you wanted and made the games shorter... and we did it in a way that matches what the owners, players, managers, and the media want, too! What a coincidence."
  4. "The ringeriest team continues to be Israel, for whom 33 of 35 players are US-born, including the returning Ty Kelly." Dude. Seriously? Eligibility is "anyone that is eligible for citizenship" (or words to that effect). Kelly's mother is Jewish. He has Israeli citizenship. Have you gone through every team's eligibility requirements? Lars Nootbar, of STL, is playing for Team Japan. He was born in California "... to an American father of Dutch, English and German descent Charlie Nootbaar and a Japanese mother Kumi Enokida. Nootbaar grew up in El Segundo, California, and attended El Segundo High School...." [Wikipedia.] These aren't "ringers". This is the rule that was created to allow for so many countries to participate and perhaps compete.
  5. I don't see any horses in the lobby but maybe the giant frog ate them. I hope to see more of Vilhelmina next year if her internship continues. I was pulling for "'Bach" in part as I was there that day and it would have been the 2d winning cover taken in DC while I was in attendance ("Yes-Pedes" was the other). If this had happened, I might have earned a place in a room off the lobby. You can see me, moments before the runner-up cover was taken, on the right in the 3d row with my mouth agape. https://i.postimg.cc/prgSZ0ND/Screenshot-2022-08-03-10-39-47-PM-2.png>
  6. 1. Bowden's a jackass, a know-nothing. I click the "frowny face" at the end of each of his rambling, poorly-written, columns. 2. If you're going to create 8 divisions and only 4 WCs then putting the Mets with superior teams (NYY, BOS, PHI) is a huge disadvantage when BAL/WSH/PIT/"Charlotte" are competing for one spot as well.
  7. Excellent ad. Guillorme makes a brief appearance. I'm surprised that Pete's not in it given that a bucket of salmon was in the teaser ad.
  8. Sam Coonrod - 45 John Curtiss - 46 Zach Greene - 65 Stephen Ridings - 66 "Broadway" Danny Mendick - 15
  9. I concede the election to "Misery" but still think that "'Bach" is the superior cover. I can't get passed the "SE" on Lindor's butt and the rambling text to the left. "'Bach" is an exciting picture from a unique perspective. The only argument I can make for "Misery" is that The Beatles shouldn't lose to Kiss.
  10. True, however does this suffice? https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-sam-coonrod-sticks-decision-stand-during-blm-ceremonyhttps://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-sam-coonrod-sticks-decision-stand-during-blm-ceremony Or this? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/07/24/sam-coonrod-giants-reliever-why-he-didnt-kneel-blm-moment/5500442002/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2020/07/24/sam-coonrod-giants-reliever-why-he-didnt-kneel-blm-moment/5500442002/ Sam Coonrod seems like a real piece of work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Coonrodhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Coonrod Wikipedia is a trainwreck sometimes. What could easily be expressed in a nice neat table over at baseball reference is instead expanded into 20 paragraphs that don't really say anything other than a long form version of a player's statistics.
  11. Sam Coonrod seems like a real piece of work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Coonrodhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Coonrod
  12. Great job by voting in "'Bach"... now let's bring it home!
  13. Per Marchand, Brooklyn Cyclones voice Keith Raad is the choice to join Howie in the Mets radio booth. This isn't official as the Mets must approve Audacy's choice and it's also pending a physical. https://nypost.com/2023/01/24/keith-raad-expected-to-join-howie-rose-in-mets-radio-booth/https://nypost.com/2023/01/24/keith-raad-expected-to-join-howie-rose-in-mets-radio-booth/ I don't know anything about him but his most recent tweet was from a Jerry Seinfeld show which means that he's either a Seinfeld fan, so he'll work well with Howie, or he was there for research in anticipation of this new job.
  14. CON: Ten minor umpires Not one is Angel Hernandez or C.B. Bucknor PRO: How much worse can they be than most umps? They have experience with the pitch clock.
  15. The Marlins have traded for AL Batting Champion Luis Arraez (they sent Pablo Lopez to Correa-Town). Between Arraez, Segura, and Chisholm, MIA is going to be a tough opponent this season.
  16. It's a World Baseball Classic season: https://www.mlb.com/world-baseball-classichttps://www.mlb.com/world-baseball-classic and lots of Mets are participating. Up to 15 players per team can leave to play in the WBC and the Mets might be close to that number. For how that impacts the Mets, this is an interesting article: https://nypost.com/2023/01/14/inside-buck-showalters-mets-plan-to-address-mlb-rule-changes/?s=03https://nypost.com/2023/01/14/inside-buck-showalters-mets-plan-to-address-mlb-rule-changes/?s=03 The rosters aren't finalized yet but we might see the entire Mets starting infield away from camp for two weeks: USA: Alonso, McNeil, Ottavino DR: Marte Italy: Nimmo Columbia: Quintana Venezuela: Carrasco, Escobar, Narvaez Puerto Rico: Lindor, Diaz Nicaragua: Vientos There could be more. This means two weeks away from camp not learning the new rules and not learning from Buck. I hope that Marte declines so he can rehab and that Quintana and Narvarez decline so they can work with their new coaches and teammates (this seems especially important for a catcher). Positive view: the Mets are so good that many of their players will play in the WBC which will make it more exciting to watch. Negative view: these players are risking injury by playing intense games in March (games that will quickly be forgotten) when they should be ramping up for the season.
  17. You may be Wright I may be crazy Oh, but you just may be the third basemen we're looking for I won't turn back But protect your back You may be wrong for all I know But you may be Wright
  18. I received an influx of Dark Money for that post. Thanks, Citizens United!
  19. We're rewarding covers not catches and the Vogelbach cover is better, if not the best this year. It's a unique picture (I'm guessing that a reporter took it from the press box given the angle). The Nimmo cover, as previously discussed, is ruined by the gratuitous "de", the superfluous image of the now-Texas player, and the intruding banner at the top.
  20. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: You can get that sunset, usually in right field. It could be any summer night tho Agreed. A generic cover is going to beat a unique cover (albeit one with bad punctuation).
  21. That was Joc Pederson.
  22. "Welcome to the Mets Fam, Pham." "Welcome to the Pham."
  23. Adam Duvall to Boston. I hoped to see his power at CF as the Mets need pop but Boston promised more playing time.
