  2. They each made critical errors in the WS but I don't know Duda's opinion of gay marriage.
  3. Edgin should be a Met for Life for getting Bryce Harper to hit into a 1-2-3 DP with the game on the line on April 28.
  4. Walker hasn't exactly distinguished himself since his return.
  5. MFYs just made another "dealio" getting Jamie Garcia, most recently of the Twins who had him for just one start after getting him from ATL. MIN apparently traded a prospect to ATL and then received a better prospect from the MFYs.
  6. Dammit Jose. Two key at bat, two outs. Goodbye already.

Because Reed is going to be a 29 y/o FA and guys in that spot are quite unlikely to simply take a one-year contract and hope that they doesn't regress/get hurt and blow the chance to 'test the waters' next year. Shit, he saw Brett Freaking Cecil get 4/$30 last winter and Aroldis Chapman 5/$86 (w/an opt-out) so he's probably looking at those as his goalposts. Plus if history has taught us anything it's that counting on long-term projections for relievers is kinda dicey, so I think Sandy would prefer to have 220 or so games out of a closer/set-up type at a (more or less) known price than have to buy one for 3-4 years at market rates and risk being without a chair when the music stops if you're not prepared to outbid everyone else. That's probably it but he's better than Ramos or likely anyone else out there so if they are "all in" on 2018 I hope that he at least had the discussion.
  8. The Mets will likely trade Reed, who is great but a FA, currently making $7,750,000. Will they get back the equivalent of what they received for A.J. Ramos, who is good, not great but not a FA until after 2018, currently making $6,650,000? (And why do they both have that $50,000 in the contracts?). The Mets traded a Top 10 prospect who is several years away from the majors but got control of Ramos for a year (and they can trade him a year from now if they are out of it again but they won't get back as much as they traded last night because, like Reed now, he will be a FA). I'm wondering why they just didn't talk to Reed now about staying. They'd have to pay him, what? $9,750,000 and maybe he wants to "test the waters", maybe they just don't want him or want to sell high but it seems like the options were: Reed minus $2.5M + 2 Top 25 prospects or Ramos +2.5M minus 2 Top 25 prospects + lesser prospects. Or maybe Sandy has a big, big deal on the table because Reed is so good.
  9. Martino wrote the article which makes it more likely that the source was an ex-Met or Phillie as those are the teams he covered.

    LOL Yankees

The LOL is on us: the MFY's are in first place tonight.
  11. If you didn't hate him as a Dodger now you can hate him as a National: Howie Kendrick.
  12. [tweet:wjn6yx8n] [/tweet:wjn6yx8n] How much could Sandy having been expecting in return?
  13. Several tweets today about Granderson and the Brewers. If Duda got the Rays 30th ranked prospect, shouldn't Granderson get the same or more, given his sparkling personality? Baseball Prospectus has the Brewers with the 3d rated system. MLB.com had this Top 30 list in March: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=mil
  14. Crap... TJ Rivera to the DL with a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow.
  15. This game has still not been rescheduled. The Mets return to DC in late August so I wonder what WSH is waiting for?
  16. Baseball Prospectus on Drew Smith: Smith, previously acquired this April from the Tigers as the player to be named later in the Mikie Mahtook trade, is a reliever who can make an impact in a setup role. The 23-year-old repeats his high-lead-arm delivery well with projectable major league-average offerings. Smith offers a two-seam fastball (95-97 mph), cutter (95-96), changeup (85-87), and curve (78-80). He gets swings and misses with the two-seamer, which displays moderate tailing action. The cutter, used only occasionally, is flatter more often than you would like, but he is still able to place it in on lefties. The changeup projects to be fringy, and the bottom that it is able to show is only effective due to Smith’s arm speed replication. The curveball, the better of his off-speeds, has big 11-5 depth and bite. The control projects to be average. All in all, the Mets received a high-probability reliever for two months of Duda. —Javier Barragan [emphasis added.] Fangraphs said: Smith is a minor-league reliever, and for all I know those might be literally a dime a dozen, but he has plus velocity and an interesting curve, so you never know when it might click.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: I have no clue how they think they can win with a roster of 14 pitchers and 11 batters. Ten and a half, sorta. This. With Walker and Nimmo scheduled to return tonight, maybe they'll return one of the 14 (Pill?) instead of 2 hitters.
  18. This was the wrong place for the important news about the new guy's gf and it was disrespectful to the sanctity of this thread. Apologies to all, incluing JCL.
  19. Tweets say that the Cubs covet Seth Lugo and His Amazing Spin Rate. Pay up Theo, he's ours until 2023 and isn't Arbitration Eligible until 2022.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: He was workin' and practicin'. Nicely done, connecting to the thread title.
  21. Give me a pitcher with hair Long beautiful hair Shining, gleaming, Streaming, Chris Flexen, waxen Give me down to there--hair Shoulder length or longer Here baby, there mama Everywhere daddy daddy Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair... there, in San Diego on Thursday, he'll make his MLB debut starting for the Mets.
  22. With Walker returning on Monday, doesn't Reynolds go back to Vegas? (He's on the team now, right? It's hard to keep up with Reynolds whereabouts?)
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The dildo photo. That it took this long to mention the dildo says A LOT about this season.
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Duda brings back 3-4 guys with major-league neatness? I think that, for a guy with direct conversational access to decision makers, Sherman has an absurdly terrible sense of fair market value. Boo is a 1B/DH with power and patience, and not expensive but not THAT cheap. This year, that's weirdly, frighteningly common. To my eye, we'd be lucky to see a mid-ceiling reliever/platoon piece coming back for our guy. I thought the same thing--if the Mets could get that much quantity, and perhaps quality (who knows?), for a player that won't be on the team next year and can immediately be replaced, do it (even if it means seeing him in a MFY uniform).
