  2. I think that was me. It's a Rob Burnett film and he was David Letterman's right hand man.
  3. Free admission to the A's game on April 17, 2018: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20684810/oakland-announce-april-2018-home-game-free-admission

I caught part of a game from Nats Park on TV the other day and it sounded like the same over-the-top manufactured "spirit" that so pollutes NBA arenas. It's definitely a new guy. He is awful but less awful than his predecessor. They still have tee shirt tosses and the dopey fans count the number of runs after a run is scored and then yell "WOO!" or something like that (my ears are bleeding at that point). Your comments about DC having an inferiority complex is accurate. There is little that I will ever say that's nice about the "sports fans" in this city or Nationals Park (other than said earlier). I even hate the way they salute the Vets. What's fun is walking out of there after a Mets win and seeing Charles Krauthammer with a sad look on his face (which happened in 2015).
  5. 1. Shea Stadium 2. Citi Field 3. The Vet 4. Citizen's Bank 5. RFK 6. Nationals Park 7. Wrigley Field 8. Current White Sox 9. Memorial (Baltimore) 10. Camden Yards 11. Sun Trust (ATL) 12. Bank One (or whatevs they call Phoenix) 13. Current Marlins ("Jeterville"?) 14. Fenway 15. MFYS 1 15. MFYS 2 16. Dodger Stadium 17. Current SFG (ATT) 18. Current AZ (Chase Field)
  6. I like the food options at Nationals Park, which includes a Ben's Chili Bowl stand, a Shake Shack, and "G by Mike Isabella" which serves excellent sandwiches. My son likes the beer options which includes a beer only sold at Nationals Park: https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/food/beer-of-the-week-earned-run-ale-is-a-nats-park-exclusive/2017/03/31/0c302904-1624-11e7-833c-503e1f6394c9_story.html?utm_term=.333435e87f25 (it's "bright and quaffable"!). The "MC" has been changed since Mr. Grimm attended and it's more tolerable. The scoreboard is good. The fans are idiots: rude AND stupid. The mascot is still an effeminate owl.
  7. Yes. I added a picture to the shared album linked above.
  8. My favorite part of the new Atlanta ballpark is the museum which is built into the concourse (not an afterthought) so you have to pass it as you walk around the lower level. It highlights Henry Aaron (of course) but also the history of the franchise. Here are a few pictures including my salute to Glavine (which was part of a history of Braves unis) and another look at the main scoreboard (there is also an out-of-town scoreboard). https://photos.app.goo.gl/r0sSCuOgXK7BuhH53
  9. Nationals Park is often depicted as fiery, painful, and harsh, inflicting suffering on the guilty. Despite these common depictions of Nationals Park as a place of fire, some other traditions portray Nationals Park as cold. Buddhist - and particularly Tibetan Buddhist - descriptions of Nationals Park feature an equal number of hot and cold areas. Among Christian descriptions Dante's Inferno portrays the innermost (9th) circle of Nationals Park as a frozen lake of blood and guilt.
  10. Liked it a lot. Great action, great music, I didn't think it was too long and I didn't fall asleep.
  11. Great movie. At the end, I was mad, at the way he was treated, and sad, at what the world lost because of how he was treated.
  12. SteveJRogers--I had the same reaction when I saw Jeter. He was used to represent the fact that every player wears "42" for a day and I groaned as well. The Jackie/Reese moment became a BIG IMPORTANT SCENE and went on for a little too long. Even the umpire thought so. Nice to see Citi Field, I mean Ebbets Field. Nevertheless, I loved the movie. Flaws here and there but well worth seeing. After reading so many qualifying reviews, I liked it more than expected. Most of us know the story so we carry our own expectations to the theater and that can affect your perspective. For an actor that hadn't played baseball since Little League, Chadwick Boseman certain came across as not only a good actor, but as a good athlete. I wonder what younger people are going to think about Red Barber's down-home expressions.
  13. Ceetar--I apologize but I can't participate this year.
  14. I'm in so long as the draft isn't the 23d or 24th. You threw me with the thread title.
  15. Don't forget Fincher's opening for "Fight Club." (But don't talk about Fight Club.)
  16. What a cast! And yet, it didn't add up to much. At the end, I said "and...."
  17. I agree w/the above comments. I hadn't read the book so the plot was a surprise (other than the fact that the lead character had a tattoo of a dragon). Fincher is a fantastic director and Rooney Mara was great. The last 10 minutes were superfluous but it didn't detract from an excellent movie. Vic--good point about the title sequence. It's something that Fincher emphasizes.
  18. Looking forward to another season... but again, consider ESPN or even CBS... anything but Yahoo!
  19. We saw it on Xmas Day in IMAX and loved it (well, I did and my sons did--my wife thought it was loud and plotless). Non-stop action, some laughs, and a good cast. I thought it was worth spending the extra movie for IMAX. I say: "Choose to accept this Mission."
  20. Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the forth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. He's joined by Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and the lovely Paula Patton. What did you think?
  21. As RomComs go, it was better than most. A half-hour too long and as stated, the finale was contrived but Carrell and Gosling were great, I always like seeing Julianne Moore, there were lots of pretty girls and some laughs, too.
  22. Liked it a lot until the ending and then I didn't like it as much. I had trouble at first identifying which young male corresponded with the older version. The ending seemed contrived and unrealistic.
  23. Lots of fun. A smart script with clever songs (by Ken McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords). Well worth seeing.
  24. I enjoyed it but didn't love it. There's no ending, just a possible moment of realization for Beane, and the parts with the daughter were superfluous and only served to make the movie a half-hour too long.
  25. If we're going to stay NL-only, we should cut an OF spot and 2 or 3 bench spots so more players are available as FAs. I recommend a switch to ESPN. The interface is far superior to Yahoo!
