  1. Shot at World Series more important than money as Wright mulls Mets future I mean , that's nice and fits with David's goody two shoes persona but it's bullshit.
  2. Kelly fucking Shoppach, he was supposed to be a big star, or am I conflating him with Saltalamacchia?
  3. TransMonk wrote: I don't think it will acutally be released until next week. From what I understood, this was a preorder for 08/21/12. had forgot about it .....yeah IIRC it said some nonsense about the 21st. still, page not being there is a little odd........maybe they realized what a bargain it was.
  4. Threw out the first pitch the other night

Later good article I thought There are multiple things that have kept us from playing very good, Collins conceded. In other words, this isnt a simple plug job. Not when you are three outfielders away from having a legitimate major league outfield. Not when you dont have a starting catcher in a sport already short on catching. Not when significant parts of the Mets own hierarchy remain unsold that Ike Davis or Daniel Murphy can be part of a first-division right side of the infield. Not when Jonathon Niese is showing second-half endurance issues once more and Dillon Gee has become a physical uncertainty. Not when Jason Bay and Johan Santana are choking the payroll for one more season. these are fears well expressed here on this forum......
  6. Excellent , I can't believe I never knew about the speed skating stuff.
  7. I'd like to pick the A's too but I thought the criteria was one per division when it's not the NL East.....bit confusing to me anyways.... Bucket?
  8. In no particular order Arizona......gave us one of the best baseball moments ever in 2001.....I remember the local rags deploring us to root for the MFY's because really we'd be rooting for NY and a new brave world.......the reaction here was .....puke and FU ...... Pirates ......been waiting for this current crew to come of age....seems like we have been talking about a lot of these players since they were just prospects.... Rangers.......would be happy to see them win one.....exciting to watch White Sox......only for Rockin Robbin ....otherwise I could care less about them
  9. HahnSolo wrote: I am totally stealing "that's blinkin' fertilizer." brilliant , listened to the whole 6:52..... "he blinking caught it,.....doing my best to translate here, he bloody caught it, Jim's gone so he's spending house money now"....... and you know what?, he's point about available video is well taken.
  10. And like his hitting he came up limp both times.
  11. Mets need to win with this effort being put in by Swanie.......nice job... Guys?
  12. Nice work Gwreck.......mid-May since we last payed a division foe?, madness.

And they got it, the vast majority on the taxpayer's teat no less, this gleaming new gem from which they would fatten their pockets by taking all of the ticket and concession and parking and advertising sales, every last cent, no matter how unseemly that felt. No idea if this is the norm but it seems like some scam for him to get everything.
  14. Very cool......just purchased it too....thanks for the heads up......what a deal.
  15. Fman could totally work there.....not for pennies though.
  16. American pitcher Lisa Fernandez, a three-time gold medalist, blamed the decision on IOC president Jacques Rogge. Rogge has basically conspired against the sports to get them removed. We had done our job as a sport world wide to show we belong, she said. I feel one person, the president of the IOC, a person from Europe, has taken it upon himself to ruin the lives of millions, actually billions of women. (Ed: "ruin the lives"? "billions"?) Lisa of course has been proven correct, the world has indeed fallen in to ruin and despair since Rogge went rouge on baseball/softball.
  17. They must have because I read something about changes in how they televise things for Brazil....they basically admitted that they are not fooling anyone with this shoddy coverage.......yesterday they relented and took down the firewall for online coverage.....so now you can watch online and all you need is to choose your provider, enter your details and presto, live events as they happen.

Why? it's not like they care if they show things live anyway. I know, the irony of that right there.....

  20. it's subtle but that crown on the KC scoreboard has me thinking Burger king.....
  21. Article in the Irish Times yesterday about this, the critic then gave his own Top Ten http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/screenwriter/2012/08/02/vertigo-takes-the-title-the-irish-times-reveals-its-favourite-films/ Top 10 Films: Critics' Choice 1 Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958) 2 Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) 3 Tokyo Story (Yasujiro Ozu, 1953) 4 La Rgle du Jeu (Jean Renoir, 1939) 5 Sunrise: a Song for Two Humans (Murnau, 1927) 6 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968) 7 The Searchers (John Ford, 1956) 8 Man with a Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov, 1929) 9 The Passion of Joan of Arc (Carl Dreyer, 1927) 10 8 (Federico Fellini, 1963) Top 10 Films: Directors' Choice 1 Tokyo Story (Yasujiro Ozu, 1953) 2 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968) 2 (joint second)Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) 4 8 (Federico Fellini, 1963) 5 Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1980) 6 Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, 1979) 7 The Godfather (Francis Ford Coppola, 1972) 8 Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958) 9 Mirror (Andrei Tarkovsky, 1974) 10 Bicycle Thieves (Vittorio De Sica, 1948) Donald Clarke's Top Ten 1. THE GHOST AND MRS MUIR (Joseph L Mankiewicz, 1947) 9. ERASERHEAD (David Lynch, 1977) 10. THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1928) [9] In the letter that Nick James, editor of Sight & Sound, sent out to voters, he made it clear that we could interpret greatest film pretty much any way we wished. This was both helpful and unhelpful. On the one hand, there were few rules; on the other, well, there were few rules. It seemed reasonable to do ones best to come up with films that, after applying a critical slide rule, could be scientifically proven to be better than the competition. Then again, one couldnt entirely ignore the eccentric, individual obsessions that fire ones cultural synapses. James Whales Bride of Frankenstein brought, for me, those two mildly conflicting drives together. The picture appeals to my love of windy, camp gothic. But it is also acts as a rather brilliant cinematic demonstration of how high art (all those expressionistic sets) and low art (Ernest Thesigers music-hall leers) can be merged without passing through the dreaded middle-brow interzone. It figured nowhere in the top 50. Oh, well.
  22. I thought part of it being dropped was a big fuck you to America ..... rounders anyone? agree with Swanie , I remember Sean Casey being touted to play for Ireland.....Piazza for Italy......bullshit really
  23. G-Fafif wrote: I'd like to hear what Billy Wagner thinks. shit, Tony Bernazard ripped his shirt of and ran around the clubhouse screaming street spanish......what a scene...
  24. Handbags and nothing else.....piss taking really.
  25. I do admire your reasoning Edgy but in regards to # 9-1- and 11 I have a hard time believing that Hairston is part of a plan or part of a brand in any meaningful way, he was signed as a bench player and that is what he is, a nice player on a team hitting the playoffs....I should add want the team to win and watch and root for them nightly, I am not upset that they didn't do anything today.
