  13. Snooze has this , as speculated in the Quintin thread the Mets are interested in relievers NY Mets begin to pursue relievers for bullpen, including San Diego Padres' Huston Street and Brad Lidge Prospects could join the Mets soon, according to sources close to the situation. Andy Martino LOS ANGELES Seeking bullpen help for their competitive but still flawed team, the Mets have developed a profile of the ideal acquisition, according to major league executives with direct knowledge of their thinking: a veteran reliever, ideally with postseason experience, and perhaps a history of success in New York. In other words, the Mets do not see a short-term savior for their troubled bullpen in the farm system, and will initially focus on trading for a high-impact reliever with a history of success, rather than an under-the-radar find. The team has already begun the active pursuit of relievers, and called San Diego to inquire about closer Huston Street, according to one source. Street (1-0) has 11 saves and a 1.42 ERA for the last-place Padres. Brad Lidge, recently released by Washington, won a World Series with Philadelphia in 2008, and the Mets will consider him, according to one source. The Mets are concerned about Lidges recent injury history, and have not yet decided whether to pursue the veteran aggressively (and Lidge has not decided if he wants to pitch again this year). Whether or not the Mets sign Lidge, their openness to him provides insight into the type of bullpen help they are seeking: older and playoff-tested. Names mentioned in other recent reports also fit that pattern: Houstons Brett Myers, Oaklands Grant Balfour and Street. The two prospects who could join the Mets relatively soon, according to sources, are lefty Josh Edgin and righty Elvin Ramirez. 14. I love listening to him, usually the week before or after the ASG MLB direct is free and you can watch out of town games.....he's a joy.
  15. Don't think I want to give up much for a guy coming back from knee surgery, having no clue how serious it was or anything I do know from listening to Fran Healy how important knees are in swinging the bat.

  17. yes it is if memory serves.
  18. I'd trade Bay for a bag of balls. Just to ensure that Hairston and Newy and eventually Baxter play more. I guess what I'm sayin' is that I'd release Bay. This is where you miss Bobby V's sharp eye: Bobby V could look a player over and in five minutes, know whether he's done or not and the fuck with the sample sizes. traded for IIRC because Bobby V went to Boston and checked him out at the "hit dog machine" gym...if that was the name of the place

  20. But Bay is a good guy.......was Q injured this season....only 102 PA so far.
  21. There are some very worthy candidates to start the ASG, I guess this is why people harp on about this start....if he gets shelled tonight I don't think people carry that memory to the ASG, it's the story so far.....for him to get that start would be a story that transcends the game I think, good for baseball.
  22. This line is gold, the writer surely thought long and hard how to describe this new porpose. And there's been a sense this season of optimism and high new purpose out at Willets Point, of things going right and of bright days ahead.
  23. Haven't seen it but I imagine Billy Connolly's voice grates after a while? Is this similare to "How to train your dragon"?
  24. Zvon wrote: ugh. weak swing ends it. Your right Gary C, the Mets just fumbled away two games. Gotta beat these lesser teams. No excuse for not takin 2 of 3 here. My main problem with this thinking is that in baseball more than some other sports this just doesn't hold up. Gee goes out and pitches five innings , hard to beat up on "lesser teams" with that and with playing shoddy baseball. In my mind Mets at Cubs usually goes like this.
  25. Absolutely loving Wood's mullet and beard combo, he's straight out of 1989.
