  2. Some nice pitching today. The only blemish was the long ball Burke gave up in the ninth.
  3. Jamie Hoffman robs a HR in left with a nice catch against the wall.
  4. Every year there are doubts about him and every spring he is here. I don't expect him to change too much from what he's been.
  5. Best Twitter feed in the organization, IMO.
  6. Duda's looking like doodie.
  7. Matt Harvey: 4 IP, 0 H, 5 Ks, 46 pitches. FWIW, Nolasco has been dealing pretty well, too.
  8. There's been a fine line this spring between being appropriately aggressive and being too aggressive on the base paths. Nice at-bat by Recker on the RBI.
  9. The one on the left is Bob Ojeda's 1986 Topps cards from the Red Sox. OE: Doh...1 minute too late.
  10. The draft is a week away...set your targets NOW!
  11. Sounds like an admonishment Hernandez would give. That is just a terrible score Edward.

  13. So far, Marlon is making a pretty strong case as an everyday RF. Hef looked good. Interested to see this Montero kid.

Nieuwenhuis did a good job digging himself out of an 0-2 count and working a walk yesterday before hurting himself stealing second. I think it was a pretty wild minor league pitcher, though. I believe Newie battled back from 0-2 against Strasburg in the first ST game to get a hit and scored on Tejada's HR. I remember liking the at-bat a lot during that game.
  15. I'm ignoring scores and most stats. I also don't put too much stock in how the guaranteed starters perform (unless they have a spring-long problem). I'm looking at guys fighting for spots and minor league players looking to make the team. I stay away from looking at their overall stats for the spring and try to concentrate on situations. [indent:16qnzqg3]Can hitters battle back against an established pitcher after getting behind in the count? Can pitchers get out of trouble once they are in it? Do hitters get badly fooled multiple times with a certain pitch? Do the fielders look fluid or stiff while playing their position?[/indent:16qnzqg3] Overall, even if you watch every game, it's tough to make a good assessment of these guys. The coaches have so much more info based on BP, drills, side sessions and attitude that we can never hope to see in these games. Still, the best thing about working from home this spring is all of the day baseball available to me. I'm trying to make good use of it.
  16. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/61836/kirk-headed-for-mri-on-ailing-knee PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who suffered a left-knee injury on a steal Sunday, will undergo an MRI this morning to help gauge the severity of the injury. A day after the issue arose, Nieuwenhuis said the knee felt similar. Nieuwenhuis will be examined in Florida and will not need to travel to New York. "I mean, I can put weight on it and stuff like that," Nieuwenhuis said. I thought that Florida was an MRI-free zone?
  17. Not bad. Would have been better with less of Affleck in front of the camera.
  18. I'd be more than OK with Ike's final stats from 2012 in 2013...I would only want to see the drastic 1st half/2nd half splits even out. If he maintains what he did in the 2nd half of 2012 for all of 2013...then we've got the potential to have something special going on. My goal for Ike in 2013 would be consistency.

Joe McEwing put up vastly inconsistent numbers from 2001-2003. But that didn't mean he wasn't my favorite player during that time while playing on some mediocre to bad teams. I like Collin's hustle. This team is going to be mediocre to bad. I'm hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

That has everything to do with Wright, Tejada, and Valdespin/Cowgill/Murphy/etc and very little to do with Ike. Stranding runners, ending innings, killing rallies...those are the types of Davis Ks that will add up to too many in my book. Eventually someone who comes up after the third spot in the lineup is going to need to be able to hit consistently. I'm not sure I've identified a 2013 Met who gives me confidence that they are the player who is going to do that.

  22. I'd be thrilled if provided what Joe McEwing did in 2001 (.283/.342/.449). I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up Joe McEwing's line from 2003 (.241/.309/.291). Anything's better than Joe McEwing in 2002 (.199/.242/.296). He's my favorite new Met.
  23. I'll take the under for Ike's BA with everyone's predictions save CF's 30+ HRs with too many Ks.
