  1. I'll be listening on the radio since FOX/MLB assumes I want to exclusively watch the Cubs on Saturday. I got a date with Howie.
  2. Who the hell cares if it's a fluke? Any offense we get from the catcher position in 2010 should be gravy. The more important question should be: Is Mike Pelfrey's 2010 Success a Fluke? Let's see how many bowls of Cheerios we can piss in.
  3. I'm done with him. Time to move on.
  4. Great KTE, Greg. BTW, I got your book over the weekend and after reading this, I may have to move it up to the front of my queue.
  5. It's gotten to the point where we may have to start throwing odd stuff against the wall to see what sticks. I'd be up for seeing what Smoltz or Pedro has left. I figured we might have to wait until August for these moves, but if Niese is down for a while, we've got holes to fill.

    Really?

I'd take the rest of the year off.
  7. What a difference a week makes...we're in last again.

It was only 5 months and I rented it on DVD. We just got a fancy new TV a few months ago. I still fell asleep. I guess the 3D glasses might have helped me stay awake.

  10. Did any of those GMs have 2 managerial firings with such high expectations on their watch? I'm not an Omar hater. I just think he was lucky to survive 2008 and the Willie debacle. I don't think he gets the benefit of the doubt from ownership again. On edit: I want the Mets win their next 30 games and all of this to become moot. That being said, there is no way I totally can see one outliving the other.
  11. Yeah, I can't see Jerry getting booted without Omar going at the same time. Sadly, I think they may both get through the rest of the season.

  13. They totally could have turned it around...and caught the ChiSox.
  14. I have to think, even with the best case scenario involving his recovery, he will most certainly not be a Met in 2012. More likely an AL DH. I'd almost like to start thinking about finding a replacement for him now...unless we think Pagan is the long term answer.
  15. I still think the Mets need to go the rest of 2010 and 2011 with the mindset that Beltran is not and will not be available to them and that any positive contribution we receive from him during that time will be gravy. "Treading water" until he comes back seems like putting a bunch of cracked and rotten eggs into one basket.
  16. That's great news, if true. Not that I don't believe Lennon's headline, but I can't/won't read Newsday either, and it's not as if we haven't had mixed updates on Beltran as lately as last week.

    Third

Agreed on all points. Frenchy's been dreadful lately.

    Third

I'm not sure how much longer I can watch a guy who's OPSing .590 hit in the #3 spot. I'm not saying he won't snap out of it, but statistically, Reyes has been the crappiest starter on the squadron...and the sample sizes keep getting bigger. There is starting to be a big difference between "he's not the best guy for the job right now" and "he's the worst guy for the job right now".
  19. metirish wrote: I coming to the conclusion that Reyes is not smart enough to hit third. I don't say that lightly , he has the talent but I don't think he has the brain for it. I don't know if I'd word it that way, but I think I agree. To go further, I think he looks way smarter (or less confused) batting leadoff.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I clicked to the third page of this thread first and saw the answers before I saw the question but would have guessed it was a rundown of Mets who wore No. 23 (Snead, Chrsitensen, Allensworth ... and Carter). Severely off topic question for Lunchbucket: Do you know why Robin Ventura didn't want #23 when he came to the team in '99? As far as I can tell it was available for him. 23 is always a number I associate with Ventura even though he wore #4 for the Mets.
  21. Florida loses 3 home games to Puerto Rico (vs. the Mets) the week after G20. I'm sure PR would be happy to host Philly and Toronto.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: That would certainly suggest to me he's been ill-served and ill-used by his manager. Ding! Ding! Ding!
  23. I guess sig lines work...if only we had an answer for the GMJ debacle.
  24. This is getting out of hand.
