  1. Was everyone required to wear those Cervelli helmets? I hate those. Makes everyone look like they have tiny heads.
  2. Breaking News: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news&id=7551966 I'm sure more to come.
  3. Too many options is better than no options.
  4. We would be buying, but I don't know about low. From Cot's for Brian Roberts: 4 years/$40M (2010-13) signed extension with Baltimore 2/20/09 10:$10M, 11:$10M, 12:$10M, 13:$10M limited no-trade protection: Roberts may block deals to 8 clubs in 2010, 12 clubs in 2011 full no-trade protection in 2012 award bonuses YIKES! 30 million over the next 3 years for a 32 year old sounds like Castillo all over again.
  5. I'd bet that if the Mets were to stand pat over the deadline, the team OPS ranking would rise over the second half while the team ERA ranking would fall. For that reason, I desire another arm. Beltran is the bat.
  6. As long as you are not standing.
  7. Better the Rangers than the MFYs. We still need a pitcher. We need an Oswalt/Lilly/other thread, stat!
  8. Reyes batting righty vs. a righty is a waste of a lineup spot. Better it be the second spot than the leadoff spot.
  9. Not any more, per Metsblog: According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mariners are backing off of the Yankees offer to send Cliff Lee to the Yankees. According to Sherman, the Mariners appear to be headed in a different direction, as they are concerned about the injury to Double-A prospect David Adams, who they would be acquiring in the deal, and so the Yankees no longer appear to be in the mix to acquire Lee. wowwhat a turn of eventsmore to come
  10. I'm worried less about Niese than Dickey and Tak. Also, Niese is OK as a 3rd starter but would be pretty awesome as a 4th starter. Tell me (sell me) again why we need another 2nd baseman and how they would be better than what we already have?
  11. I guess I am more confident in Beltran and Castillo complimenting the offense we already have than I am in Niese, Dickey AND Takahashi all continuing their 1st half success. Lee (or another 3+ starter) helps solidify the rotation AND the bullpen.
  12. Nice job guys. I'd stand for Chipper and show aggressive indifference to Mariano.
  13. I am of the opinion that Lee would help the club more than any second baseman ever would. It really depends on how Jerry aligns the outfiled when Beltran and Castillo are scheduled to come back. I have no problem with Castillo batting eighth in this lineup. He leaves something to be desired defensively...but that's not whant we're talking about, are we?
  14. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  15. Now that batmags has clinched, I peeked at the player for 1973. Toughie for sure.
  16. I've had some good guesses. One more, as I don't remember so well before the late 90's: Player, September 1985: Gary Carter
  17. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Johan's been in the majors long enough to be eligible for HOF consideration. If yesterday was his last game ever, does he deserve to get in, or does he need to do more? OE: I'd say that Johan's peak is HOF worthy. CY in 2004 and 2006. Rookd out of the CY in 2005. ERA champ and 2d best NL pitcher in 2008. But the voters might want more accumulation on the counting stats. Tough one. Looking at his numbers, I think he might be on the outside looking in. I don't like to think about that though. He should have more than a few years of above average to elite numbers left...at the end of his career, I still think he'll be a no doubter.
  18. June, 1989: Hojo again?
  19. Pitcher May 1997: Bobby Jones
  20. HahnSolo wrote: Pedro didn't win a game in September 08. I have no clue who it is if it isn't Johan. Ditto.
  21. If Leiter was good enough for June 2000, I'll guess him for June of 1999 as well.
  22. Ceetar wrote: oh oh, June 2000 was Mike Hampton wasn't it? I'll say Leiter for June 2000. Moved him right up to 1A status.
