  1. I also liked it. It has a great soundtrack that alternates between Trent Reznor synths and Jon Batiste jazz.
  2. Lupita Nyong'o wuz robbed.
  3. I'll be there for the gay dame vs. the Mets on 08/01/19.
  4. This was a pretty amazing movie...no sophomore slump for Jordan Peele.
  5. 100%
  6. Huh, me too. I saw this last weekend and thought it was good fun. I'm not normally enthusiastic about the genre, but gave this one a shot based on hype.
  7. I'm hanging my ottoneu ownership hat up. If anyone wants (or knows someone who wants) to take over my team, I'm happy to turn over the reigns before arbitration and cuts so that a new owner can do as they see fit with what I've got. Otherwise, I'll make those decisions as though I was carrying on, but I'd like to be out before next year's draft for sure.
  8. Here is my Incredibles 2 story: I took my five year old to see a 10:00AM showing on July 4th. We went early so we could participate in other holiday festivities and family get togethers. We got there at 10:00 sharp. Nothing in the theater happened until 10:10 when the room went dark and the movie started without previews. Except the movie playing was not Incredibles 2, it was the new Jurassic Park which opens with ominous music and dark imagery. Immediately, all of the parents with small children began picking them up and heading for the exits to avoid watching a nightmare inducing scene involving dinosaurs. After about 2 minutes, the screen froze and remained that way for another minute. Then the screen went black for another couple of minutes and we got a Wreck-It Ralph preview. I figured we were on the right track. After the one preview, the animated short that precedes Incredibles 2 began. Two minutes into the short, the screen froze but the audio kept going. After another two minutes a manger came into the theater, apologized profusely and said they would start again from the beginning of the short. So, then they started the short again and we got through that. Then the feature started and we got 10 or 15 minutes in when the screen froze again and the audio kept going. At that point, I asked my daughter if she wanted to stay or go and she was ready to go. We walked out to the manager telling us they had cleared out another theater and they were going to start the movie over again if we moved there. By now it was 11:00 and we had other things on the agenda for the day, so we took the free passes they offered us for another day and left. It looks like we are going to wait to see Incredibles 2 until it comes out on BluRay.
  9. Outside of the game outcomes, I thoroughly enjoyed Coors Field. I like Denver to begin with and I think they have done a great job sustaining a baseball stadium in the middle of downtown. I understand the reasons for building away from downtown, but I love being able to walk to the game. Granted, I’m coming from a hotel and parking might be a hassle for locals, but I think it is cool to turn a block and see a stadium appear out of nowhere. I had a club seat on Wednesday night, which allowed me to get several views from seats on the second level. I spent the most time all the way down the left field line and I could see everything from there. One of the things I found interesting about the club level is that they have plexiglass where their broadcast booth and TV control room is, so if you wanted, you could literally watch the control room in action for the game. I didn’t. Thursday was a day game and I had field level seats behind the plate. It got hot (low 80s) and the seats were in the sun for the game. Because Denver is not humid, the temps were bearable, though. During the middle of the game, I went up to the upper deck level. I tried to sneak up to take a pic at the purple line of seats denoting 5280 feet, but the usher denied me. There were a lot of kids from camps and teams up there for Thursday, so I guess he had his hands full. I should have tried it on Wednesday night when most of the upper deck was empty. After watching two games there, I consider Coors the best MLB park in which to view a game that I have been to. The atmosphere in the seats is pretty much exactly what I want from a baseball stadium. I felt the food and beer selections were redundant throughout the stadium and lacking in local flavor. I also felt like moving up and down levels was not as easy as in other ballparks I’ve visited. The fans were polite and engaging. I did see some great jerseys and was surprised at how many people were displaying non-Rockies/non-Mets gear. There were a lot of Cubs fans, a handful of White Sox fans, as well as individual Phillies, Rangers and Giants jerseys-wearing fans that I noticed. I mentioned in the IGT that my ticketed seat on Wednesday sat me between a Braves fan and a Yankees fan. Yikes! I saw a guy in a Cuddyer Twins jersey and the best of all was a guy in a powder blue Larry Walker Expos jersey. On the walk to the stadium, I even saw a guy in a Mike Hampton Rockies tshirt fake jersey! Jose Reyes took a little shit from the fans (as he probably should of), but on the whole, the fans were well behaved and good sports. The Mets are really hard to watch right now, and as I Mets-jersey-wearing-fan at Coors Field, I felt like I was getting a lot of pity looks from Rockie fans. Nolan Arenado is a beast. I know their bullpen has holes and they are under .500 right now, but that team has a lot of offensive talent. I’d root for the Rockies over many other MLB teams. Did I mention Arenado is awesome? Damn. Anyway, if you’re looking for a ballpark to visit, take a trip to Coors. I highly recommend it.

    Solo

I'm watching Season 5 of Arrested Development and, of course, there is a slight (but accurate) reference to Solo during Episode 3. Thanks, Ron Howard!

I thought it was good fun...maybe the most "fun" SW film ever since it mostly bypassed the weighty light/dark/Empire/Rebellion narrative. Ehrenreich did a fine job making the character his own and not just a Harrison Ford impression. The surprise at the end was certainly a nod to the cartoon/comic fans. I thought it was pretty bold and interesting. I'm not in a rush to see it again anytime soon, but it was enjoyable all the same.
  12. It looks like playoffs will be considered for 2019, but not this season. Batter categories: R, HR, OBP, SLG Pitcher categories: ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K
  13. I voted for playoffs, but it is not a deal breaker for me. I can also understand about not wanting the formats to change as teams have been built around current stat categories. Just my 2 cents.
  14. 2/5 for me. Meh, for sure.
  15. Shea Citi Wrigley Milwaukee County Stadium Miller Park Old Comisky Comiskey II (or whatever the current one is called) Old Busch Stadium (but not the new one) Safeco Field I'm hoping for a trip to Coors Field during the 2018 season.
  16. I watched it again and feel better about it, but I'm still nowhere near where Willets and marathon are. Stuff still bugs me *SPOILERS BELOW*: Who is Snoke? Where did he come from and how did he rise to power? How is he connected to the rest of the story? It's doubtful we'll ever know. Rey's ancestry? What a letdown. This movie would have been far better, IMO, had it ended 15 minutes earlier than it did. Leaving the story hanging when Luke walks out of the cave to confront Kylo Ren with the fate of the Resistance in the balance would have made me excited to see the next episode. As it is, I'm not sure where they go from here. The Force Awakens left a lot of hanging questions out there. The Last Jedi dismissed those questions with unsatisfactory resolutions and left nothing to really consider for the next two years going into the next film.
  17. metsmarathon wrote: ever think that maybe, just maybe, ach-to has radically shorter days than the galactic standard? Don't we see Rey wake up more than once on the planet? Do humanoid sleep rhythms auto-adapt to the shorter days? Or maybe Rey takes catnaps. Or maybe I'm mis-remembering. I'll likely go see it again before Xmas to catch more detail. Either way, it's forgivable in Empire, so it's certainly forgivable here.
  18. I saw with my step-dad this morning, which has become an annual tradition. My first impression was that it was good, not great. Better than the prequels, but not on par with IV, V or even VII. Without giving too much away: I know there were those that thought Episode VII was a ripoff of IV, but I don't think this one mirrored the Empire story much if at all. There is the parallel that Rey is off doing Jedi stuff while the rest of the gang is being chased by evil (it even shares the perplexing time-warp where what seems like days for Rey and Luke is merely hours for the rest of the cast). But I can honestly say, the trailers don't give much of the actual plot away and there were things I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the new characters and wish I could have seen more of the Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro roles...even if it were to have been at the expense of screen time for some of the main characters. [bIGGEST-BITCH SPOILER]:This one did not have a cliffhanger ending. I'm sure Episode IX will feature the final remaining good guys beating the final remaining bad guys, but I'm not looking to it for too many answers to too many questions from its predecessors. I left this one with much of the same feeling I had when leaving Rogue One. It was undeniably a Star Wars film and its canon fed into/out of the surrounding canon, but too much of the time the action got in the way of (or downright eliminated) the storytelling.

This is my 4-year-old's new Frozen. She would watch it multiple times a day if I'd let her.

  22. It looks like LWFS's team has been re-assigned...I'm guessing to an interloper. GULP!
  23. I'm flexible that whole week and don't mind moving if we have to.
  24. I'll do the draft night duties. We'll need to make sure everyone has paid their dues and such before hand. I believe that has caused issues in the past.
