  1. Even though it sounds like gross dudes drenched in Axe body spray heading to Vegas for a few raunchy days, it's actually a planned MLB weekend (Aug 25-27) where players get to express themselves through their dress, including individualized patches, bright colored accessories, and wearing nicknames on the back of the jerseys. Jeff Passan: Major League Baseball will relax its uniform rules for a weekend later this season, allowing players to put nicknames on the back of their jerseys, wear fluorescent-colored shoes and personalize a patch paying tribute to someone instrumental in their development, according to a memo obtained by Yahoo Sports. 1) How do you feel about seeing 'La Potencia' or whatever on the back of a jersey? 2) Do you think they will allow "@" symbols for player's social networking handles? 3) Does this remind you of the XFL? 4) Does the patch thing seem like a weird 'uniform' way to allow individual expression? 5) Why not lift restrictions on eye black messages? 6) Is this whole thing hella stupid or cool?
  2. I would like to shake Matt Harvey.
  3. Speaking of the #OldenDays, how did Hoch end up going from Mofo to Yankee land?
  4. Ceets said he will LOL and move on (I mean, shit, we've all Trump to worry about IRL) but I think that's kinda the point... this episode adds to the #LOLMets perception that this organization will fuck up anything it can get it's 4-fingered, cartoon mitts on. And maybe the 7 Line or some copycat may sell Mr. Met/flipping-the-bird t-shirts, but if a handful parents don't wanna buy Mr. Met stuff for their kids now, then the brand def takes a hit and #LOLMets grows louder.
  5. Questionable send? 2nd and 3rd w/ 1 out and Bruce coming up wouldn't be so bad. Great relay throw.
  6. Jesus Christmas, Montero. Throw some goddamn strikes.
  7. Nymr83 wrote: Harvey is simply a bad player right now. He needs to be in Vegas working out his control issues. Walking thevpiycher with a 5 run lead is a pretty unforgivable sin/sign you have no idea where the ball is going Sending Harvey to Las Vegas to work on his problems is like sending someone to Colombia for coke rehab.
  8. Looks like "TBD" for Thursday has been "D'd". The Pads called up 6-foot, 4-inch, 24-year old Dominican righty Dinelson Lamet. Whether he brings his 11.5 K/9 with him is also TBD.
  9. Good article in the Ringer about the Padres attempts to get good quickly a few years (getting Kemp, Upton, Kimbrel) and then nuking that formula and going full NBA-style tank job and carrying a handful of Rule V turds. As one would imagine, it’s rare for a player to make his major league debut without having previously played above A-ball or in a high-level international league such as the NPB, the KBO, or Cuba’s Serie Nacional. In the 37 full seasons since 1980, 27 such players have debuted in the majors in April, according to some sifting of Baseball Prospectus data. No other team in that time has had more than one. During the “bonus baby” years of the 1940s, ’50s, and ’60s, some teams would carry a couple of players with no minor league track records, but what the Padres are doing may be unprecedented since the dark ages of baseball, before Branch Rickey brought farm teams into vogue. Looks like their 3 Rule V guys are still hangin around, too.

  11. Watched the Vegas Mini Mets against our own Albuquerque Isod'ohpes last night. Amed had a crappy game, going 0-5, but he is tall and graceful at short. I think that oh-fer dropped him to like .365. Gotta say, except for maybe running, everything Dom Smith does looks pretty effortless. Baseball looks natural and easy for him. Wish he'd hit some bombs already. Desmond Jennings, formerly a 'good major leaguer', is in the Met org and was the 6 hitter. I'd completely forgotten about that dude. That's it for your Las Vegas 51's update.
  12. The Johnny Manziel career model is not one to aspire to.
  13. metirish wrote: Did you gear Keith's passionate defense of Ray Ramirez before the rain delay? The booth were talking about Cabrera and the discussion that SNY showed between Collins and Ramirez....basically it was Ray Ramirez is a great trainer , a really great person and stop ragging on him on social media, these decisions come from people above him......it is fashionable to take the piss about Ray Ramirez , I did think Keith's defense was interesting to say the least. Yeah, I did hear it. "Ray is a good man" was his exclamation point on that topic. I didn't realize how much shit Ramirez must be getting. Players and management both want to keep guys healthy and on the field, but have different agendas. Ray's probably the middle piece that just wants to treat and prevent injuries the best he can. Whether he's better than his peers or not, who the hell knows. All the teams have lots of injuries.
  14. Juses Fucking Christ, Neil Walker.
  15. Who the hell knows, but a piece in the Ringer yesterday about how the Mets are a broken mess of shit reminded us that Kershaw tore a lat a couple years ago and was out about 6 weeks. First, there are worse things for a pitcher to tear than his lat muscle. We know what Tommy John surgery looks like — the pitcher’s out of game action for 12 to 18 months and doesn’t regain full effectiveness for two years. We know that shoulder injuries frequently bring pitchers’ careers to an end. The lat injury has a few variables, not least of which is that Syndergaard’s lats must be the size of a side of beef, and “partial tear” is ambiguous. Clayton Kershaw tore a lat muscle in March 2014 and missed about six weeks before coming back to win not only his third Cy Young in four years, but the NL MVP as well. Roy Halladay tore a lat muscle in 2012 and never pitched effectively in the major leagues again.
  16. What's the story on Harvey's heavy Wednesday workout? I mean if he didn't look hungover, we're not having this conversation.
  17. Chad Ochoseis wrote: So, in my dreams, I was at CitiField last night watching the Mets and the Braves. I won a raffle that entitled me to one mezzanine level seat (which CF doesn't have, of course) for a future game. I had to wait on line in their customer service office to claim the ticket from some guy in a cowboy hat, and the ticket still cost $20.15 (handling charges). This took until the bottom of the 8th, so I missed most of the actual game, which the Braves won 17-10. After the game, I was waiting in the parking lot for a friend of mine to meet me, and I couldn't find her, and I couldn't call her because it had started to rain and I couldn't see my cell phone display. So even in my dream world, the Mets suck and so does their customer service. [Jung] As dreams are the windows to our subconscious, it's clear that despite your love for the Mets as a team, you hold close to you a devilish mistrust of the Mets as an organization, as they not only sold you a "free" seat that doesn't exist, but the cowboy-hatted broker was the least New York-y or Metropolitan-y person your brain could've conjured. You not being able to find your friend was a personal manifestation of the Mets being completely lost and not being able to call anyone for help (bullpen included, as is evidenced by the 17 fuckin runs allowed). I would like to see your brain's box score. Curious if Desi Relaford pitched an inning in there somewhere. These Mets do suck. As brother Jung said, "Embrace your grief, for there your soul will grow". [/Jung]
  18. My boy Dale is in AA starting his 4th professional season and is, if nothing else, a model of consistency. His .136/.224/.295 line thus far is a little lighter, but in accordance with his .188/.304/.293 career line. I read an interview with him where he was proud of his ability to play all 4 infield positions and hopes that versatility will help him down the road. Gotta get off the interstate before you can move on to the next road, sonny boy. Best of luck. But for real, dude must have some kinda glove, no?
  19. Damn, son. Get it.

Health could certainly wreck us for good, but I still think we've got a great couple month run and an 11-game winning streak in us. Hope that when we creep into the low 80's in wins, we aren't cursing this shitty April performance.
  21. Harvey "escapes" with only 2 runs allowed. Shoulda maybe been 1, Reyes definitely had a play at home on Suzuki. Too early for a drink?
  22. We are an extra-base hit away from being down 5-0 again today. Jeez, Louise.
  23. Accidentally stumbled upon this excerpt from Chipper Jones' book "Ballplayer". In this scene, our hero spills the beans to poor Mrs. Jones about his multiple affairs. In case you've forgotten you dislike this guy, read on. ---> http://www.myajc.com/sports/baseball/from-ballplayer-when-chipper-jones-told-his-wife-about-extramarital-affairs/D6qnKsFIITKmRFjxZttINL/ For some reason, I didn’t tell her about the girl in Philly. Maybe it was because I thought she might be lying to me about being pregnant. But I got it out that I’d had three affairs and then I lowered the boom.
  24. Defense has stepped up for both sides, resulting in two safeties. Score now stands at 16-2 in the 7th.
