  1. Sherman brought this up last week and Ocho and I kicked the idea around the other night. But what do you think about Indians 2b/OF Jason Kipnis? Would you trade Gsellman and Guillorme for him? I might try to work Lagares in there somehow. Plusses: -Versatile. Can play 2b or the outfield Minuses: -Coming off injury, lost his job to a better guy last year. Contract: -Signed for the next 2 seasons at $30.5 million with an option for 2020 at $16.5M (or $2.5M buyout). Huge bargain if he reverts to his 2015/2016 form. Pretty expensive if he puts up a part-time 81 OPS+ turd like last season. What say you?!!
  2. I loved all that Cespedes cowboy shit.

  4. Dozier was all but traded to the Dodgers last offseason, but the Twins held out for DeLeon (plus another stud - Cody Bellinger was on their wish list) so LA said "FU" and went and got Logan Forsythe instead. Ken Rosenthal hasn't called me to confirm or anything, but I'd bet he's available. Edit: Edgy replied for me better than me.
  5. Man, screw Dee Gordon. We prob don't have the chips, but I'd call the Twins and ask what the price tag is on Brian Dozier.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Also Joc Pederson didn't exactly endear himself to me with his dance around the bases. You wanna celebrate ... how 'bout at least waiting until you cross the plate? Ah, man, the kid hit a homer in the World Series (3 of em!) after being kicked to the minors and left off earlier playoff rosters. He's happyyyyyy! I can't believe I'm agreeing with Bryce Harper, but #MakeBaseballFunAgain.
  7. This could've landed in the #TakeAKnee thread, but either would've worked. Some nice quotes from former coaches and especially teammates Alan Wiggins and future Met Garry Templeton. Remembering Baseball’s Right-Wing Rotation When three Padres pitchers came forward as members of the John Birch Society in 1984, the sports world was challenged by a different kind of political activism https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2017/10/31/16578390/padres-john-birch-society-mlb-alt-right
  8. That game was so long... ... they had to push back the start of the Portland/Montreal World Series to let this one finish first. ... that when it began, most people still regarded a guy named Clayton Kershaw as the best pitcher in baseball. Look him up. ... when it started, this was Justin Turner:
  9. I'll stick this Verlander Bugs Bunny curve and delicious Todd Frazier swing in any thread where it's remotely relevant. [tweet:2v1vrjsv] [/tweet:2v1vrjsv]
  10. Really been two wonderful games to watch. What the fuck has gotten into Verlander? Touched up by a couple homers, but still pretty sensational.
  11. Also, I realized this #LOLYankees thread was missing this beauty of a swing. There's a slow-mo after the regular-mo, too. [tweet:29301z4d] [/tweet:29301z4d]
  12. Any doubt the MFY's kept this one quiet until the Mets were Calloway'd? Just in case?
  13. I would love to see the best pitcher of this generation be awesome 2 or 3 times and win a ring, despite turd Chase Utley going 0-17 and deciding to retire immediately after the WS ends.
  14. Fman99 wrote: They had a one night "rebranding" this past season that was very popular (we were there that day). For one game they were named after a local side dish known as "salt potatoes," basically, russets cooked in water liberally salted and served with melted butter. They made some pretty cool hats, jerseys, and swag to go along with it. Gotta be the same office that turned us from the Isotopes into the Green Chile Cheeseburgers for one night.
  15. Right on, man, congrats. Look forward to it.
  16. David's gonna be 35 in December. If he was and had been healthy, Sandy would shirley be looking at his successor anyway. Right? RIGHT???
  17. First, I call in Glenn Hoffman cause he's the youngblood in Group A, checking in at a hungry and spry 59 years of age. Then I call Ron Washington, because despite his great W/L record, I seem to recall him making some incredibly dumbfounding moves when managing the Rangers in the playoffs. I think he would be fascinating to talk baseball with in the same way it would be fascinating to talk baseball with Joe Morgan. Then I call in Joe Altobelli and Dave Bristol together because guys in the 80's who want to talk about baseball are super fun to hang out with, and more than one is even better. Then I hope to God there's an actual candidate in Group B.
  18. Unfairly and constantly shit on by Ceetar Warthen kinda went from "Who's this effing guy?" to sneaky baseball innovator with his self-titled slider. As the Mets charged to the World Series, Fangraphs wrote this glowing piece about Warthen's signature pitch: Ask Warthen if he’s in his dream job, and he doesn’t equivocate. “Absolutely. All of these guys are good guys, too, and they want to learn. Syndergaard and Matz and Harvey — they’re just sponges, and they want to learn.” That’s no surprise. You’d hope most pitchers would want to learn the low-spin, high-velocity, all-in-the-fingers slider that helped make Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Jeurys Familia and Jenrry Mejia who they are today. That’s a pitch good enough to get its own name: The Dan Warthen Slider. Shit's not so sweet when everyone's hurt and the team sucks. Fangraphs this year on the Warthen slider: The Mets’ fate over the past few years has been tied closely to the quality of the pitching staff. Once a clear strength of the club, that staff represented a weakness for this year’s team. But much of that weakness was a product of injury, and injuries hit every team at a seemingly random pace. Is Warthen a scapegoat here, or is he somehow directly responsible for the current situation? Innovator? Just a dude? I feel like he mighta been underrated and overrated both. Memories of Warthen NOW!!!!
  19. I know Barwis isn't an employee, but I'd be surprised if our association w/ that turd continued.
  20. Man, Mike Trout looks GREAT in blue and orange. I can't believe we got him in that big Harvey trade.
  21. Meaningless September games will have all the meaning when it's December and it's cold and it's dark and all the grass is brown and the players are gone and the stadiums are empty and we only have spring to look forward to. C'mon skinny love.
  22. All credit for this victory goes to Greg's legendary page 1 post and Edgy Michael Hall's Canadian "girlfriend".
  23. I hope Garth Brooks gets a few reps at third.
  24. Living in NM, I'm blacked out from Rockies and DBags games. I tested a VPN on my laptop to see if I could get around the blackouts and it worked, but the VPN choked the stream and it wasn't really watchable. And I don't want to watch every game from my stupid laptop anyway. BUT if you could get it watchable through a VPN and stream it to a TV, you might be on the right track.
