  1. Encouraging for sure. Radio only, yes?
  2. After striking out 11 batters in 5 innings against the Biloxi Shuckers in early May, he goes out with the boys that night, has a couple frosty ones, and gets a huge tattoo of Japanese-themed samurai warriors and koi fish and shit like that. It covers the entirety of his back and the fish tail part stretches to his right shoulder, which is where he gets his staph infection after swimming in the hotel pool that night, brazenly ignoring specific instructions from the tattoo artist to avoid swimming pools. After he loses the right arm in the emergency amputation, he re-invents himself as a soft-tossing LOOGY and miraculously gets a cup of coffee in Queens in September. Despite the incredible feel-good story, Bashlor inexplicably gives the tattoo parlor a damning 1-star review on Yelp. The social media tide against him is powerful and swift. The Mets, sensing a need to change the storyline, send him down to AAA and replace him with outfielder Timothy Richard Tebow. Bashlor's September line: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 4 HOLDS!!!!
  3. My phone just told me that Mickey sez deGrom might miss Opening Day...
  4. Mets crushed. Positives: The garden gnome went 3-3. Flexen looked good. So, too, did pitchers Molina and Bautista, dudes I don't know off-hand who they really are. Lets hope no one gets hurt tomorrow!
  5. Patrick Bionidi Garden Gnome day is just every day he plays. Hey, hey Mother Nature is sick of looking at the Mets, too, and unleashes a huge rainstorm! Tarp is on the field...
  6. Update: The Mets look like shit. Swarzak must wear like 46-inch length pajama pants. Longest, sloppiest things I've ever seen. Oh, and it looks like he hurt his left hand and is leaving the game. Jay Bruce has our only base hit! 6-nil Astros, top of the third.
  7. Nymr83 wrote: this is from 2-3 years ago so it may have changed: "A minimum of four players who were regulars on the previous year’s Major League team or who were platooned on the previous year’s Major League team on a regular basis, or who have a reasonable chance to be regulars on the Major League Club’s squad during the upcoming season should make road trips. Each of those regulars, excluding pitchers, must play a minimum of three complete innings." Ah, never knew that. "Reasonable chance to be regulars" could be fudged into being lots of crappier dudes.
  8. Were there ever rules on that kinda thing? These are exhibition games and I'm sure both teams wanna see what kind of players they've got.
  9. Borenstein sure getting his shots early on.
  10. Mets broke the lumber out while I had to work. Looks like Borenstein, Zimmo, and Neat-o did the heavy lifting.
  11. Robles gives up 4 earned on 4 hits, including a wild pitch and a walk.
  12. Noah done after 2 perfect innings. Robles, sadly, appears in mid-season form, too, giving up a huge bomb on his first pitch.
  13. Thor's first pitch to Springer clocks in at a cool 100 MPH. He's hit 100 and 101 against Redick and Altuve. I guess he's ready, too. Where the 86 Mets has those thick racing stripes running down their uni tops, the Astros have some neat-looking tequila sunrise horizontal stripes on theirs today. They look kinda cool.
  14. Welp, Verlander looks ready for Opening Day.
  15. Ceetar wrote: Ceetar wrote: he's bad. Thank you for that, Peter Gammons. he's got a bad K rate, bad walk rate, gives up home runs, has never actually been very good in any meaningful sample, and will pitch in Vegas until prospects stay healthy and demand the spot. Was just breaking balls, then you Gammons'd it more than sufficiently.

  17. Mets sign AJ Griffin to minor league deal to fill the long-haired, bearded ginger role. Was decidedly terrible last year, but could be a good depth signing as he was one a reliable mid-rotation dude. Whatchoo say? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/mets-sign-a-j-griffin-to-minor-league-deal.html
  18. Lefty Specialist wrote: A little less to this than it appears. Jr. didn't go fishing with them and tried hanging out with them when they came back, like a lot of rich jock-sniffers tend to do. Trump had been fishing with the same captain earlier in the day and crossed paths when he was getting off and they were getting on. He apparently lay in wait for them to come back. It's a little pathetic, actually. Trump being part of it would make it more nauseating for me personally, but it still pisses me off these guys went out and killed a couple sharks as some bro down exercise. Saw a vid on Nimmo's insta where is was so excited they got 2 at the same time. I eat meat and all that, but these aren't hungry lions killing a gazelle, has nothing to do with the food chain. These are young, rich assholes killing animals cause they think it's cool and shit.
  19. Certain the facebook comments are exactly what I'd expect them to be. Poor Dave. He's just quietly trying to get better. As always, he's brought no negative attention to himself or the team. And every last one of those turds talking shit on him would collect that paycheck (that AIG or whoever is paying the majority of), same as he's doing.
  20. Something humans do that no other species does - kill shit for fun. Of course Harvey's in the middle of this. Nice "optics", Callaway & the Mets. For fucks sake...
  21. Not sold on Vargas either, but like Edge said, we tried to have SP coverage last year and torched through it in, like, 3 games. All these dudes are gonna their innings still, I bet. If Wheeler starts in the pen, he could be a bad-ass reliever getting high-leverage outs in early innings (5th/6th) and we'll still have Ramos/Blevins/Sleestak/Familia. If Harv/Matz gets hurt, Wheeler will be in there for those starts. The 10-day DL gave starters extra days off a lot last year, too. Wheeler could still get 140-150 IP.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Ceetar wrote: Vargas is better than Cobb or Lynn. Really? I hope so. If true, then this is a brilliant move. Vargas was an All-Star last year, but he was terrible in the second half. That second-half dropoff is concerning. Hopefully it has a benign explanation. Nah, I don't think that's close to true. His WAR and expected ERAs were close to Lynn's last season, but both players have been better and are younger than Vargas. He might be a better value in the end than one or both, but he will most certainly be cheaper and didn't cost the Mets a pick.
  23. two years is kind of a surprise. Is Wheeler slated for the bully now? 6-man rotation to keep all the hurty guys less hurt?
  24. Nymr83 wrote: is this a guy who gets a decent contract? then no. if he gets league minimum and released assuming we exit spring training healthy, sure. I would say very unlikely he gets anywhere near minimum.
