  1. Looks like Wright woulda been out by a mile and is held at third on Frenchy double. Cora then walks, and Tak K's to end the inning. Booth sorta on Hale's ass for not sending him, but if Wright's out by 10 feet, who gives a crap what the situation is?
  2. I guess Grady Sizemore has the same knee thing and underwent the microfracture surgery today. Edit: yup. Cleveland Indians Grady Sizemore done for season; will need 6 to 9 months to recover from knee surgery By Paul Hoynes, The Plain Dealer June 04, 2010, 5:57PM CHICAGO, Ill. -- Grady Sizemore is done for the season and then some. Sizemore, the face of the Indians franchise, underwent mircrofracture surgery on his left knee tody in Vail, Colo. He will miss six to months. A release by the Indians said Sizemore is expected to play in Cactus League games next spring. Dr. Richard Steadman performed the surgery in Vail, Colo. It was an arthroscopic procedure that took 90 minutes. The Indians said Steadman wouldn't know the extent of the injury until he started operating. This had to be their worst case scenario. Microfracture surgery involves drilling small holes in the hole to promote the growth of cartilage. The Indians said the cartilage under Sizemore's knee cap was unstable after he injured the knee diving back into a base in April and re-injured on May 16 in Baltimore. Sizemore missed most of September last year with surgery on his left elbow and left groin.

I totally missed the death date. That's sorta funny as long as he doesn't actually get murdered tonight.
  4. Already updated in paragraph four: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Joyce And don't forget the leadoff sentence, too... James A. Joyce III (October 3 1955 - June 2, 2010) is the very worst umpire in Major League Baseball who has worked in the American League (AL) from 1987 to 1999 and throughout both major leagues since 2000. He attended Bowling Green State University. He wears uniform number 66 (he wore uniform number 6 while in the American League). His strike call is extremely loud and enthusiastic, similar to that of now-retired umpire Bruce Froemming. Joyce has umpired in the All-Star Game (1994 and 2001), the Division Series (1995, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2003), the League Championship Series (1997, 2004, 2006), and the World Series (1999 and 2001). After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1977, he umpired in the Midwest League (1978-1979), the Florida Instructional League (1978), the Texas League (1980), the Pacific Coast League (1981-1986, 1988), the International League (1987), and the Dominican League (1983). Joyce was the second base umpire when Nolan Ryan recorded his 5,000th career strikeout and was the first base umpire when Robin Yount reached his 3,000th hit. On June 2, 2010, Joyce blew a call at first base which would have given Armando Galeragga of the Detroit Tigers a perfect game*[1]. His crew for the 2008 season included crew chief Tim Tschida, Jeff Nelson, and Mark Carlson. His crew for the 2009 season includes crew chief Derryl Cousins, Bill Miller, and Brian Runge. His crew for the 2010 season includes crew chief Derryl Cousins, Marvin Hudson and Jim Wolf.

  6. They're saying he was out by a full step.
  7. Tigers radio guys are going ape shit.
  8. If he's picking and choosing, why even bother with shit like this: Ryan (NYC) Wouldn't it make sense to, I don't know, give Wright/Bay/Pagan more at-bats than Alex Cora? Adam Rubin I certainly think there's a case to be made for maximizing the at-bats of the best hitters.
  9. "MrMet" Johnson from NY and "scoopcoop" Smith from NJ both got in with their clearly very real names, so I'm holding out hope.
  10. My questions about Nieve and Carter have more or less been hit upon by other, more boring sounding question-askers. PS - "Ryotis" sounds kinda dirty when the rest of the name is left out.
  11. as does Shea Guevara from Argentina.
  12. The French Eyes got a question in, too about a now seemingly useless guy in the bullpen not named Oliver Perez.

You guys see glassy-eyed Kev behind Jerry? He looked like I felt when I woke up this morning after last night's little bender.
  14. Anybody have any more on the John Maine thing? I couldn't figure out why the hell Nieve was already in this game.
  15. Funny. Loved "just go out there and win if you can, but if you can't, don't worry about it."
  16. Cheers, Joe. That was a great read and the original sketch is killer. Lookin' forward to the full-blown ESPN interview.
  17. MFS62 wrote: Wright is rapidly falling into the vortex of suck. Last night, Steve Sommers said that Wright seems to have lost his game. And nobody seems to know how to reverse the process. Later If you slowed down Wright's swing and put a big laser tracer on it, it would end up looking like a Nike swoosh he'd probably whore himself out for nowadays. The curve of the swoosh starting when he now automatically drops his back elbow, while at the same time opening his front, and the tail arching skyward with his uppercut swing. He needs to do old skool wood chopping, downward plane exercises.
  18. Hey, Joe, about how much time do you spend on each one? What size are they in real life? Sorry if this is on the blog and I missed. It's Sunday Funday and I'm buzzin.
  19. Swan Swan H wrote: Why would you want this guy in the bullpen? Why would you want him on your team? He is being asked to help the team by going to the minors to work on his game, and he is telling the Mets to fuck off. Should he go to the minors he will continue to make $32,876 a day while he's down there, and maybe have time to figure out why he has become one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball. But no, he has no interest in doing so. I understand that removing Perez and his Japanese horror movie start from every fifth day should save the bullpen some work, but this is a pen that is being fried as it is. Having an empty uniform taking up a roster spot is ludicrous. Carrying 13 pitchers would be even worse, and if you're not going to use him that's probably what is going to happen Performance is one thing, but this is different. If he sucked and worked hard, and made every effort to get back on track, I would have no hate for the guy. Maybe he wouldn't be earning the money with performance, but at least he'd be trying. He is doing exactly the opposite - he is saying that he knows he sucks, but there isn't anything the Mets can do about it. The Mets have to pay him no matter what. Why would you want to be reminded of the huge blunder you made every day? Release this bum, rip off the scab, and let the healing begin. Could be wrong, but didn't I read the Mets haven't even asked him to go down? If that's the case, why be all over his ass for it not doing what he hasn't been asked to do?
  20. That's stunning, man. The Ali's you've done were some of my favs. Welcome aboard, dude.
  21. That was alright. I thought Simmons was switching allegiances there for a second. I didn't finish the whole thing, but the scene vs. sport thing is an important distinction to make with the LA crowd. I think that happens in any city in the pricey seats, especially during the playoffs, but LA is stupid about it, and the Lakers are the kings of that particular brand of stupid. Jose Lunchbucket, in the 300-level at Stapes or in the OF bleachers at Dodger Stadium, very passionately loves his Dodgers or Lakers, but no one pays any mind to him at all cause he's not banging Lindsay Lohan (anymore).
