  1. Backpack Girl, why can't I meet someone like you? Confident and cute, but a little shy, too. You're so smart from your mid-size American University education. I've seen you in the quad a few times and want to talk to you, but I don't know what to say. I'd never invite you to that kegger on Thursday night. I'm sure you'd just think I was a dick. I'm scared to invite you to coffee. What if I have nothing interesting to say? What if you think I'm boring?? The thought of that scares the ever-loving shit out of me. You're not even the kind of girl I normally go for. I typically like a girl with a wild streak. Maybe a tramp stamp tattoo. A lip piercing. But your style is so minimal. No jewelry. No accessories of any kind. That's not really all that sexy to me. So why can't I stop thinking about you? And then I realize... there are no distractions with you, Backpack Girl. You don't want us to see you through the prism of some designer brand labels (Your backpack is rad. Is it a JanSport? I bet you don't even care). You don't want to impress us with a t-shirt of your favorite band (what kind of music do you like, Backpack Girl?), You just want us all to see you for who you really are. No fronts. No facades. Just a Girl. With a Backpack. I've got to confess. I looked you up on Facebook. I wanted to be friends with you there. Show you the cool shit I'm into. Make you like me as much as I like you. I saw your profile. Just one photo. That's so cool. Wall is "private". How do you do it, Backpack Girl? You need us all way less than we need you. I wanted to friend you, but realized it's all bullshit and you'd see through my act anyway (and I was scared you wouldn't accept). This isn't me. What have you done to me? Oh, Backpack Girl, how can someone so simple be so complex? I don't even know if your teeth are straight and white and I don't care. Backpack Girl, I think I love you.
  2. They made a vid of some old, goateed dude all hanging out in his middle-class suburban home, making YouTube vids on some old-ass Compaq Presario laptop (probably running Windows Millenium). He acts like he's all smart about baseball matters, and says what he would do to fix the Mets and it's so hilarious. You can't take him seriously at all because of the ridiculous, low-budget, high school A/V club setup, and the suggestions are even funnier because it's all the things the Mets have done for years, stuff that hasn't worked at all. That's what makes it so clever, see. We need "stars"! We need "energy, personality, and leadership"! We need to release everyone who's bad to show the fans we mean bidness! We need to trade Ike Davis + whoever it takes for Prince Fielder! We need to sneakily/stealthily sign that Cliff Lee guy! I think he struggled on the Indians and got sent to the minors, so we can probably buy low and shock people by getting him. Good writing, and the guy they got to play the stooge nailed it. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/11/29/steve-phillips-fix-my-team-mets/
  3. David West might be a PF on the (t)all-Mets team.
  4. He gets his own thread, people. Rumor mill is hot hot hawt that he might become a New York Met. Got my west coast biased on for sure, but I was real fond of this guy as a Padre. 1-year incentive-laden deal? How much lettuce? I don't know. 4 starts at the end of the year. 4 very good ones, by the looks of things. Would he be one of the 5 tallest Mets? Top 3? I would bet yes.
  5. Awesome stuff by Greg @ F&F. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2010/11/29/the-collected-wisdom-of-r-a-dickey/ It was performances by guys like Dickey & Pagan that can give you different reasons to root in an otherwise shit year. I'd probably read/heard only 1/4 of those RA Dickey gems. My favs were the 'Sportscenter Answer, 'Jerry's Approval', and 'Pure Heart'. I can't wait for 'Greatest Hits Vol II', scheduled to be released in early winter 2011.
  6. So used to the black hats on grey tops that the blues ones looked strange at first. But that feeling went away immediately. Those uni's looked so purty.
  7. Dodgers stay busy, get new SS in Juan Uribe for $21 mils over 3 years. If he was older and crappier and more intangiblerier, he could've gotten another 10-14 million per year, easy.
  8. Nah, wouldn't do it. Pitchers with chronically hurty pitching arms don't tend to quit being hurt, and poor guy throws all slow now, too. Sorry, Johnny Maine. I'd say you've got to work your way back to those $2.6 mils, if you were to stay around here. Would think that some team somewhere would offer him more than a minor league deal, though.
  9. I read nothing that detected any bitterness or a feeling that he didn't get a fair shot. just disappointed, and who wouldn't be? so what u talkin' about, man?
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Ten years ago, you could see them pay that back those lost skills by becoming extra-base hitters as they age. But those days may have gone away with mandatory testing. For sure, and he's already displayed his XBH game to us all, so we won't have to guess whether he'll 'grow into that' later or not. If he's healthy & gets a full year of PA's this year, but the pop isn't so poppy, then you might suspect 'fishy' and boot his sorry ass. 1 year & he's got everything to prove. Mets are in a good spot w/ him. For now.
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Just as a general, nonscientific observation, I'd like to say that fast young middle infielders don't seem to age all that well, relatively. I think all that diving around beats up their arms and wrists and their legs get heavier, and their range decreases, etc etc. Yeah, and I bet that goes the same for guys w/out all the niggling leg injuries like Reyes has had over the years. If he absolutely kills it this year, they'll have a fun problem on their hands. How much/how long do you go on a leggy shortstop who'll turn 30 in the first year of his big, fancy, new, $hiny contract in 2k12?? Dunno, but no trading his sorry ass. I think he's gonna /////CRUSH///// this year.
  12. Side-topic: Would trade rumors piss Jose off, you think? Or get him all inspired in his walk year to turn in career best #'s? Or do you think they're something he doesn't give 2 shits about? I'm torn on this. I love Jozee Reyes, but I'd also love it if he started XBH'ing a little more (circa 2k8). Not like his legs are gonna get fresher and sexier as we move forward. He's super dreamy when he's healthy, though. Would hate hate hate to see him not a Met and kicking ass all over the MLBs.
  13. This Hank Schulman guy (Ed Price v2.0?) writes for the SF Chronicle, and the internet just told me that Hank tweeted the following two tweets today: @hankschulman Henry Schulman Yesterday I speculated on Jose Reyes for Giants. I can tell you Reyes is available and healthy, but Mets want a boatload in return. @hankschulman Henry Schulman I'm hearing Mets want 3-4 players/prospects back for Reyes. That's a lot for an $11 m player to become a FA in '11. Might be a July deal. Whatchoo think, Mets fans of the Crane Pool Forum??
  14. Dan R. (Folsom, CA) So, what's the deal with Warthen staying over Collins picking his own guy? I know he did a decent job, but that bullpen wasn't exactly incredible, Dickey came up to the majors on fire already, and Perez, Maine and for a while Pelfrey all regressed considerably. He also threw Omir Santos under the bus last offseason.. Does he have embarrassing photos of the Wilpons or something? Adam Rubin (12:14 PM) Warthen did a solid job in 2010 given what he had to work with. Niese took a step forward with the cutter, the bullpen performed great despite underwhelming personnel. Maine was injured. And the players privately threw Omir Santos under the bus all the time, for whatever that's worth. Even guys in Binghamton. I don't know what happened with Dave Wallace being a consideration -- whether TC was overruled, Wallace wasn't interested at this stage of his life, or Collins really wanted Warthen all along. Warthen just received the call a few hours ago inviting him back, so it's certainly fluid and the entire story has not come out yet. What happened w/ Omir Santos last year? Edit: added the quote so you'se know what the eff i'm talking about.
  15. Not shy, but I think I would've hired another actress while waiting for her site to load. Bump up to the 'Plus' hosting package, Allie! This is your career we're talking about!!!

  17. I'm not into either of the 'fiery' candidates. They both scare the shit out of me. I'm with JCL and I'm on #Team_Chip now, and if not him, then the 4th guy, the boring one.
  18. Reyes' head looks 2.5x > than Pagan's. Lady Beltran is lookin' way hawt. Hope Carlos' offseason training regimen is half as tough as her's cause baby, it's workin'. Here's them in 2K9, both lookin way less stylin'. Would guessed this was, like, 2k4.
  19. Jeez, never heard of "It's Mets for Me" til just now. All over it.
  20. Clay Zevada is the mastermind, tie-damsels-to-railroad-tracks criminal, and Al Albuquerque is his bumbling, right-hand man.
  21. Minor League Free Agents -- all 533 of them, including 24 from the NYM system RHP: Yhency Brazoban (AAA), Brian Bruney (AAA), Chad Cordero (AAA), Jack Egbert++ (AAA), Johan Figuereo (SS), Carlos Muniz+ (AA) LHP: Derrick Ellison (AA), Arturo Lopez+ (AAA), Mike O'Connor (AAA), Adam Pettyjohn (AAA), Raul Valdes (AAA) C: Michael Barrett (AAA), J.R. House (AAA), Salomon Manriquez (AA), Luke Montz+ (AA) 1B: Marshall Hubbard (AA) 2B: Russ Adams (AAA), Alex Cintron+ (AAA), Jonathan Malo (AAA) 3B: Mike Cervenak (AAA) SS: Jose Coronado (AA) OF: Brahiam Maldonado (AA), Jorge Padilla (AAA), Jesus Feliciano (AAA) + = spent more than half or ALL (++) of the season on the DL We should definitely sign Al Albuquerque from the Rockies for the obvious reason. I always had a crush on Josh Barfield for some reason, cause he's not very good. He'll be just 28 in Dec. I might try and nab him super cheap-o & invite him to ST, and get a Bisons jersey ready for him. My adopted kid, C-Los Muniz, is a free agent. End of the line??? :'-(
  22. Kinda weird spot to be in, or no? Assistant GM and all, but a holdover from the old regime thanks to ownership, & not hand-plucked by the new GM. Wonder if he felt like he's sorta been leapfrogged a couple times in the big picture, with the new GM bringing in his smarty pants BFF's from around baseball. Wonder how much input & how much weight his opinions are gonna carry w/ the Nerd Herd? John Ricco, what do u do really? are u sad?
  23. metirish wrote: NYT reports that K-Rod lived with Samuels after the judge barred him from his family home. NYTimes I remember the really young girl at the nightclub. I remember the PED stuff. But I didn't remember this bit about LoDuca. The team has had to deal with similar revelations over the past decade relating to gambling and organized crime. In 2006, Major League Baseball investigated allegations that a man reportedly stood behind home plate at Shea Stadium during batting practice and yelled at catcher Paul Lo Duca about the gambling debts Lo Duca supposedly owed him. Lo Duca was not disciplined in that matter. Wish I could party w/ PLD.
  24. Damn it. I was readying the Paddy Power odds. Early projections were: 15:1 - addicted to blow/smack/meth? 4:1 - long-time tax evasion/fraud? 25:1 - busted for sexing up a 2-bit, dirty dish-rag street walker 8:1 - running a clubhouse sports book with K-Roddie as his 'muscle'

Did he design em? Fired for a 'personal matter', if that's accurate at all, wouldn't indicate to me theft or anything illegal against the team. I would think if he got shitcanned because of roidy stuff, the org would wanna announce that (and may yet) to show the new sheriff in town is 'cleanin' this shithole up'. Maybe he was all wrecked on absinthe and crashed his car & smacked his wife (sorry, Charlie).
