  1. "Sandy, explain your thought process behind this pick at #11." "Our game plan, as always, has been to get some fucker who can hit, and we felt he was best hitting fucker available, so we jumped at the chance to nab this fucker."
  2. Mock draft number 900 (Baseball America, this one) has us taking 1st team All-American slugger DJ Peterson (3b/1b) from New Mexico. .411/.525/.823 with 18 homers in 209 AB. Real thing in 3 days...
  3. That guy just seemed really weird and creepy to me. That he came off sorta normal in the interview seemed like more of an act than his online persona.
  4. Yeah, that was creepy, man. The personal stuff about Paul's ex- separated it from lame and harmless trolling to kinda deviant shit and "Joe" knew it, too (saying his wife would be mortified). Anyone get a vibe that he might've been full of shit about where he lived and went to school, etc.?
  5. That was awesome, Greg. Reading about the '86ers in '89 or so, it's hard to not read it like an obit.

Even after I realized what a dick he was I figured if he ever became the player he thinks he is we would have a great player there. Looking at his career numbers, which don't suck, he never lived up to my expectations. Shame. He just torched the minors and his great debut in '88 didn't hurt building those expectations that he'd never be able to meet. Having a crumbling, formerly-great team thrust on your 21-year old, 'next George Brett' shoulders prob didn't help much either. Wanna say I read a piece from his retirement days where he seemed like he chilled the eff out quite a bit. Likable dude, IIRC.
  7. Samuel for Dykstra and McDowell still makes zero sense.
  8. MLB.com has a couple of new (to me) YouTube channels (a lot of great clips, full games, etc.), but I just saw this vid while browsing around. It was mentioned by JCL in an IGT earlier this year. Last home game of '89, the curtain closes on the season and the wheels are all the way off the dynasty that shoulda been. Jefferies bounces out to 2nd to end the game, McDowell barks at him (taking shit about Jefferies' bag for his bats, per Keith) and then all hell breaks loose. Jeff picks up McDowell who lands like 500 billion right hands in a microsecond. B1PNt5iktGE
  9. That big league pay bump would be nice for the handfuls of dudes who are ready to make the leap & being delayed weeks (or months) because teams are clinging to that cloudy super 2 date. Unchill.
  10. Ed Lucas is kinda interesting, too. 31-year old career minor leaguer, he was the oldest member of the Marlin org to have never appeared in a major league game until yesterday (went 0-for-1 against Tampa and still looking for that first big league hit). He's an Ivy Leaguer (Dartmouth) who studied sociology and economics. "I loathe juggling and jugglers."
  11. Dietrich I just learned is 23-year old second-baseman acquired by the Marlins for Yunel Escobar. He's right-handed, has some decent pop, likes to juggle for sick kids, and his granddad played for the Tigers in '59 and the Indians in '60. "A trick is something a whore does for money. Bitch, I'm a juggler."

If Super 2 status is based on a very specific amount of service time (I've read 2 years, 119 days to be exact), why is there conjecture? Seems there should be an exact date for every player who would be eligible based on their first day of service time. Uh, right? The cut-off for "Super-2" players is NOT specific, and it's intentionally not specific for the very reason that teams would use it to take advantage and effectively delay arbitration by a year. Thanks, dudes. Glad it's all on the up-and-up and no teams are using it exactly for the reason of delaying arbitration anyway, cough cough.
  13. Read this by Rubin and it confused me pretty good. If Super 2 status is based on a very specific amount of service time (I've read 2 years, 119 days to be exact), why is there conjecture? Seems there should be an exact date for every player who would be eligible based on their first day of service time. Uh, right? Rubin's piece: Execs predict Super 2 'safe' date for Wheeler May, 24, 2013 MAY 24 6:10 PM ET By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com The Mets are expected to wait until after the Super 2 deadline to promote Zack Wheeler, so the pitching prospect is paid close to the major league minimum and not at an arbitration-influenced rate in 2016. So when is that? The Mets' projection, at least as of a couple of weeks ago, seemed to be a little bit earlier than some other teams -- somewhere in the early June range, to no later than June 10. A front-office executive from another team told ESPNNewYork.com that promoting a prospect after June 11 is "mostly safe" and after June 20 is "super safe." An executive from a different organization estimated June 15 "and possibly a few days later. Said a third team's exec: "Mid-late June is usually safe." So figure about three more starts for Wheeler with Triple-A Las Vegas. Wheeler is next scheduled to pitch Monday in Vegas against Salt Lake. Assuming he stays on turn with the 51s, that also would give him Pacific Coast League starts on June 1 and June 7. (There is a team off-day June 5.) So you're potentially talking June 12 against the St. Louis Cardinals at the earliest for Wheeler -- and maybe a few days after that if the Mets want to be extra cautious with the Super 2 date. His debut come come during the following series, against the less-imposing Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. If the Mets wait until June 17, they can start Wheeler on the road, as they purposely did with Matt Harvey to try to limit the spotlight and pressure. Of course, the Mets would then be in Atlanta -- which happens to be where Wheeler grew up, which might increase rather than diminish the pressure.
  14. Hef 6.63 K/9, 3.16 BB/9, 1.58 HR/9, .268 BABIP, 5.08 FIP Gee 6.70 K/9, 3.08 BB/9, 1.45 HR/9, .365 BABIP, 4.93 FIP Heads Heffner, tails Gee. Tails.
  15. The difference is the merkin. Gee needs to glue that horrible thing back on his face and watch his ERA drop drop drop....
  16. Let me say Gee offers me zero comfort, nebulous or otherwise. I just think he's probably slightly the better pitcher, but hasn't done it yet this year. That said, i think he could be perfectly mediocre again without notice.
  17. I think it'll be Hefner, too, and that's probably the right call. Gee was a perfectly adequate back-of-the-ro guy last year and he's not light years away from that again. His fly balls are up 4% from (and so, too, went the HR's), his groundballs are down the same 4%, and the league's hitting .365 against him. If he can start getting a few more ground balls, he should start sucking a little less and be fine at the back w/ Marcum.
  18. So that's why they were sucking Rivera's dick before the game. Farewell, Mariano!
  19. There is one on Bo and it's pretty solid.
  20. Touch. Edit: Looks like it's actually called the goatee (or the TransMonk), and what I thought was the goatee is the Van Dyke. I wanna see a Met wearing the Dali.
  21. What do you call that mustache-free goatee that Murph's wearing? PS - Wainwright's socks are the shit.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I read an actual post from an actual person the other day non-ironically suggesting that Jeter start for the AL -- despite not playing a game all season -- for the same reasons. IT'S NOT YOUR FUCKING STADIUM ASSWADS. Fat, cowboy-hat wearing old hack Tracy Ringolsby actually wrote a column advocating as much. That's an awesome read. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130502&content_id=46468342&c_id=mlb One of the commenters called it 'verbal fellatio'.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: That wouldn't surprise me at all. Magic Johnson precedent and such. Nah, different stuff. That was a post-announcement, post-retirement, 'lifetime achievement' award for Magic. And the NBA all-star game doesn't count, like the MLB one kinda does. Jeter can play if he ditches the boot and starts mashing like all the other washed-up old farts on the Yankees. Otherwise eff him.
