Let's talk about Francisco Lindor

Lindor sez he won't negotiate his next contract during the regular season. -
Edgy MD wrote: Jerry Koosman and Willie Randolph strike me as two guys who should be in the Hot 100 but don't belong in any Top 20. Rusty Staub, too, and maybe Tug McGraw. Still no Tug. (And I ain't holdin' my breath for that.) But Billy Wagner checks in today at #17 - the highest ranked one-time Met, so far. you'd have to think the list goes something like Bonds, Clemens, Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson? so you have about 12-13 spots left before it gets obvious - are there any potential Mets left? I don't think either Rose or Shoeless Joe will make Joe's list. They're both banned from baseball and thus ineligible for the Hall. Beats me if I know how this is supposed to work. Shoeless Joe is #12.

Flynn was worse. And then Flynn was worse worse because he got to spread his worseness over 2,000 Mets AB's. Moran, at least, knew how to work out a base on balls. Flynn, nada. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/flynndo01.shtmlphttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/flynndo01.shtmlp

If it comes down to getting the dude or dudes they want and it takes exceeding the CBT to do it, I fully expect them to. Exactly. Cohen's not about to telegraph to the world that he'll pay more than top dollar for everyone he wants. Even if he's willing and able. Also, the baseball luxury tax isn't much of a deterrent to spending and to someone like Cohen, it's like pizza-pie money to me and you. Enough already with the woe is me about how much Cohen can spend. There's never been a baseball owner as rich as Cohen, not even close. Probably in all of American team sports. Maybe the Microsoft guy that owns the Supersonics. But the NBA has somewhat of a hard salary cap while baseball has no cap at all. An MLB owner can spend as much as he's willing and able to spend. There's just a tax/penalty for spending at a certain level.

In their twelve pictures of ballplayers today, baseball-reference has George Springer. Someone there is messing with our minds. Re: "today". BRef's photo lineup at the top of its main page changes with every click. Click on BRef right now and you'll get a completely different (randomized) array. I just got Mike Piazza in a special Tom Lasorda tribute home page. Is that a coincidence? Piazza/Lasorda? (Lasorda made Piazza's career possible). Doug Flynn was beyond awful. He might be the worst hitting everyday player in Mets history, worse even than Ordonez. In today's world of baseball, Doug Flynn wouldn't get more than one full season of plate appearances, if even that much, even if he played for the dumbest team in baseball.

Lefty Specialist wrote: He's my hero simply for going after the Phillie Phanatic with murderous intent. This and the Dave Kingman rant are the stand out memories. Also made Mike Piazza's career possible. Without Lasorda's influence, there'd be no major leaguer named Mike Piazza who was inducted into the HOF. I was actually thinking about Lasorda's advanced age a month ago. Ghoulish me. But I have a thing for keeping track of the surviving 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, now down to three -- Sandy Koufax, Carl Erskine and original Met Roger Craig. Craig, Koufax and Lasorda were all rookies in 1955. -

What a middle infield that's gonna be -- Lindor and McNeil! So what's gonna happen to Cano? Will Cohen just dump him and eat the contract? I suppose Cohen doesn't have to make a big decision on Cano until next year even though he might not wait. -

This is weird because when I first saw this thread title but before I clicked in to take a look, the first thing that came to my mind was Grimsley's 1978 Sporting News cover, which was the first image in Edgy's opening post. The list is comprised of players eligible for the Hall who are no longer active and who have failed to get in through the conventional HOF ballot. It's not clear, (at least I don't think so), whether a retired player still appearing on the conventional HOF ballot is eligible for Joe's list.
