  1. =Centerfield post_id=54419 time=1611117229 user_id=65] 6 years. 120-125M was the Mets rumored offer.
  2. Details? Did Springer give the Mets a chance to top the Jays reported 6yr/$150M offer? Did the Mets signal that they wouldn't top the Jays offer, effectively bowing out of the pursuit of Springer? Did Springer accept an offer from the Mets that was lower than the Mets offer? Will we ever know? Was the plan to not get Realmuto or Springer?

The Mets would've been better off with Sutton than with Flynn, et. al. Not that it would've made a meaningful difference given how dreadful the post Seaver-to-the-Reds Joel Youngblood Mets were.
  4. I thought it was the lack of HR's. The most he hit in one season was 18, and that was in 1987, a year in which the ball was juiced. His 162 game average for HR's was 13. The writers expected more power from first basemen.
  5. You must be well-connected. Did the Sutton family contact you first? Because I can't find a single news article on this event.
  6. =MFS62 post_id=54352 time=1611085399 user_id=60] I remember discussions that centered on things like "Mazeroski is in the Hall for being the best fielding second baseman - ever....
  7. It's a terrible shame. He appeared to be a rising star in the baseball world.
  8. Mets player tells Daily News that Jared Porter should be fired for harassing woman reporter: ‘F--king disgusting' Excerpt: A player in the Mets' system believes his new GM needs to be fired immediately. The Daily News granted the player anonymity so he could speak candidly about the growing scandal around GM Jared Porter sending an unwanted photo of his penis to a woman reporter in 2016. “I just finished reading the article,” the player said of ESPN's Monday night report. “F--king disgusting, the Mets have to fire him. They can't get this wrong. She left the profession because of this man, he cannot be employed.” Porter sent the woman a photo of an erect penis (that he denies is his own) after 62 straight ignored messages. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-jared-porter-mets-firing-20210119-ketzqscamrc2hj2bicnuczx5sy-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-jared-porter-mets-firing-20210119-ketzqscamrc2hj2bicnuczx5sy-story.html

  10. New owner. New GM. Sandy back in the fold. And they still can't shake the stench of #LOLMets!
  11. What's with the Flintstones guy?
  12. Here's the program for the game. [FIMG=555]https://baseballhall.org/sites/default/files/styles/fullscreen_image_popup/public/Program2.jpg?itok=PQGsCkUM[/FIMG]
  13. Or perhaps, rosters wouldn't need to expand to accommodate substitute position players needed because of this new DH. This new proposed DH might encourage longer starts, and thus, less relievers needed - opening up already existing roster spots for position players.
  14. MLB is considering a new version of the DH rule. Stark: The DH idea everyone has been waiting for … or have they? Excerpt: The future of the designated hitter is on the table as we speak. Here's an important thing you may not know about that future, though. The question for Major League Baseball and the players' union is not necessarily as simple as: Universal DH or not? Wait, you say. Why is that? Aha, we say – because there's actually another alternative. So here it comes – the DH idea America has been waiting for, an idea we've mentioned before around here, an idea that has come up in baseball's brainstorming sessions behind the scenes. It goes like this: On one hand, the universal DH would be in effect for all 30 teams, just as it was in the 2020 season. On the other hand, there would be one huge difference. Once a team takes its starting pitcher out of the game, it would also lose its DH for the rest of that game. Cue the shocking Stephen King music! https://theathletic.com/2321909/2021/01/14/mlbl-dh-idea-starting-pitcher/https://theathletic.com/2321909/2021/01/14/mlbl-dh-idea-starting-pitcher/
  15. Sandy Alderson sez that Dom Smith ain't going anywhere. If there's no NL DH in 2021, the Mets'll deal with it with Dom on board. https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/01/alderson-doms-not-going-anywhere.html/https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/01/alderson-doms-not-going-anywhere.html/

  17. During the 70s and probably before as well, Stark and Gallo drew pen and ink sports cartoons for the Dsily News at the same time. The paper would alternate their cartoons.
  18. I suspected you were gonna post that artwork as soon as I saw the thread title.
  19. Mets' Sandy Alderson explains how decision to sign James McCann allowed Mets to trade for Francisco Lindor Excerpt: Alderson said that the talks with the Indians began in November before ramping up last week, but he also explained how the team's decision to sign catcher James McCann played a big role in being able to go after Lindor and Carrasco. Because if the Mets had signed, say, J.T. Realmuto instead, it's likely that Lindor wouldn't be on the Mets' roster right now. https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-sandy-alderson-explains-decision-022055759.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/mets-sandy-alderson-explains-decision-022055759.html Why on earth would signing Realmuto prevent the Mets from then trading for Lindor in hopes of signing Lindor long-term? Money? That's the only reason I could think of. And I'm not buying it. I think it's a smokescreen so that free agents won't think they can have their way with Cohen's money. Really? So does that mean that if Cano weren't suspended, the Mets wouldn't have been able to sign McAnn? Makes no sense. Especially given Cohen's wealth.
  20. Joe Posnanski writes that, off the top of his head, Ellis Valentine had the second best outfield throwing arm in baseball history. So I googled this up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQwfvNtAFykhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQwfvNtAFyk
  21. =whippoorwill post_id=53817 time=1610479000 user_id=79] I can't vote for Tom Seaver's death. I just can't
