Not a fan of Alonso laughing and chuckling it up with Freeman down by four. I would. It's freakin' baseball and barring a horrible injury, Alonso's gonna be as "rich as Rockefeller" in a coupl'a years while he's still in his freakin' 20s. Not that Alonso's hurtin' for dough right now.

Trade Deadline Action 2021

=Ceetar post_id=69481 time=1625000269 user_id=102] as for the ball itself, MLB seems particularly inept at that, and I'm not really sure what they were even aiming for, or what is 'normal' anymore. -
Trade Deadline Action 2021
batmagadanleadoff replied to Johnny Lunchbucket's topic in New York Mets Talk
I'm not concerned about the Mets offense. I realize how bad it is this season, but I think it should revert to the mean, which, I believe, is a tremendous offense. I'm chalking all of this up to bad luck, a historically dead ball which is suppressing offenses everywhere, but particularly the Mets because of the humidor the Mets are using this season -- and because they play in a pitcher's park, which are impacted harder by deader balls. I think it's mostly external conditions that's causing the Mets offensive woes. That's al;so why the pitching is so good - with three all-star caliber starters, including one for the ages and two of the best relievers (Diaz and Loup). Put back a regular ball in play and take away the Citi Field humidor and the Mets'll hit better. And the pitching'll get worse. Including deGrom. -

We have 13 pitchers on the roster but can't hit for Oswalt when it really matters?? [FIMG=333]https://s3.amazonaws.com/heights-photos/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/05200825/thumbs-up-01.png[/FIMG] What the fuck was that all about with letting Oswalt hit? What the fuck is Rojas waiting for?

This shirt posted here last year, with Keith holding it up. [FIMG=666]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51272033417_fa0688b7cb_b.jpg[/FIMG] It's a photo manipulation. Keith isn't really holding up the shirt, just made to look so. It's a cheap money-grab by an outfit with minimal Mets knowledge who produced the shirt without researching it. Here's a variation, with "Mets" in Beatles font. [FIMG=777]https://cdn.gifteeshirt.com/hoang/2021/01/8dfcd171-cool-the-new-york-mets-abbey-road-2021-signatures-shirt_2.jpg[/FIMG]

Lefty Specialist wrote: Why would the Mets use a humidor? This isn't exactly Phoenix. I can't think of a single reason. Citi Field was always a pitcher's park, in every aspect, suppressing hits, scoring and home runs. So why a humidor? Several other teams have also added humidors for this season, contributing to this season's historic lack of offense. -

The offense still sucks..... It's the ball. Look at the Mets numbers. They truly are right out of 1968. They're atrocious and they're team-wide. Also, the Mets are using a humidor this season. This is getting almost no attention in the media but must be having a significant run suppressing effect because Citi Field is the second best pitcher's park this season. The only park that's suppressing offense even more so than Citi is Marlins Park and that's yet another thing: three of the four most run suppressing parks this season are in the NL East - Citi Field, Marlins Park and Nats Park. So Mets hitters are disproportionately batting in extreme pitcher's parks in 2021. This is all also why deGrom's so unhittable this season. For a player to be performing at such an extreme record-setting level, as deGrom is doing - to be doing something that hasn't ever been done in a game that's been played for over 150 years, everything has to be going the player's way. He has to be the best in the majors at what he's doing, but also, conditions have to be in his favor. 2021 MLB park effects: https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactorhttps://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor -

He didn't, and wasn't. -
Cubs Patrick Wisdom, on facing deGrom: On today's Pardon My Take... PATRICK WISDOM! The rising star for the Chicago Cubs joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show to discuss .... Patrick Wisdom: Yeah, it was major suck. [deGrom] shoved it last night, it's like going into a test knowing you're going to fail, like there's nothing you can do. He's just going to overpower you and you're going to walk back to the dugout saying, "I don't know what I'm doing out here." Mr. Commenter: Just answer "C" every time and maybe one out of every four times, it will be right. You've got to like sit on one pitch, so a guy like that, is there just one pitch that you're waiting for, you're like, "Maybe I'll get a slider that doesn't break." Patrick Wisdom: Yeah, or it's maybe the 100 MPH fastball that you try to hit. But, I mean, the first pitch, I barely even saw. Like, it hit the glove and I'm like, "Huh." Mr. Cat: Really? Because it's that fast and that much movement and everything... Patrick Wisdom: It explodes out of his hand, and it gains speed as it gets to the glove. It was something I'd never seen before, obviously. https://www.barstoolsports.com/podcast/3370289/cubs-third-baseman-patrick-wisdom-explains-what-it-is-like-to-step-in-the-batters-box-and-face-jacob-degromhttps://www.barstoolsports.com/podcast/3370289/cubs-third-baseman-patrick-wisdom-explains-what-it-is-like-to-step-in-the-batters-box-and-face-jacob-degrom

Cohen could get creative $$ wise and offer Cano while eating a big chunk of his remaining salary. What kind of interest would Cano generate, if he's practically given away? Cano's a sunk cost who's PT is now very expendable going forward with Lindor now a Met.

I dont think the Mets are gonna hafta give up a top prospect to get someone like Lucchesi, a reliable back of the rotation guy. My hunch is that that's the kind of pitcher the Mets will seek if they go shopping All TBD . This stuff could turn on a dime.

Now I'm annoyed a little bit that I needed the Dodger hint to solve the quiz. Also, it looks like it was popular to name your baby boy Norman in the 1930s. Here's another early 60s famous Norman (1960) - Bates.

I thought Ceets clarified that his main point here is that it's an MLB money grab and that all the other details over who designed the new ASG unis or how, precisely, this new idea came about, are all secondary and besides his main point.
-
I wouldn't be on board with this even if I thought that the ASG unis were beautiful. Seeing the All-Stars assembled in their own team uniforms - all the different unis in one place at the same time - might be my most cherished baseball tradition. What have they done? Sigh.

Edgy MD wrote: I certainly believe in high-leverage at-bats. I think it's like clutch hits: I celebrate them but I don't think that clutch hitting is an indepedent skill. Likewise, I'll celebrate the Mets reliever who strikes out the last two batters in the ninth with a runner on third to presserve the one run win -- but I'm certain that the pitcher who struck out two batters four innings ago could've done the same. Anyways, the big story with deGrom, I think, is his WHIP and H/9 innings allowed. That's where I think all the focus should be on instead of on his invisible ERA. deGrom's about as perfect as a pitcher ever was this season. Nobody's even getting on base against him. That's the real story and that should be the focus. His ERA is merely a function of his minuscule WHIP and hits allowed. Nobody's even getting on base against deGrom -- never mind coming around to score. But everybody's more comfortable with ERA. It's been around forever and most fans can gauge an ERA much easier than a WHIP. deGrom's allowed just four earned runs all season long - three of them on solo HR"s. And that distribution makes perfect sense once you take note of his WHIP. The way deGrom's been pitching, it's practically impossible for the opposition to put together a rally consisting of several batters getting on base. Opposing teams can't even count on productive outs to advance the rare base-runner because deGrom's striking out batters at an all-time historical rate. So their best chance to score against deGrom, given how dominating he is this season is to hope that the fair ball is hit far enough to go over the outfield wall. Score on one swing because there ain't gonna be many other chances. Anyways, deGrom's allowing about three hits per nine innings. That's the story, I think.

Edgy MD wrote: deGrom's second-placiness behind Josh Hader in WPA pulls into something like a dead heat when you include his batting WAR. I don't put much stock in WPA. It favors relievers, especially closers, because they tend to pitch high leverage at-bats. If you believe in that stuff. I believe that striking out a batter in the 4th inning is just about as big as getting the last out of a game.
-
deGrom's ERA is 0.50. That's half an earned run a game (nine innings). Or one earned run every two games (18 innings). So if deGrom were to give up one earned run in his next inning pitched, he'd have to then pitch 17 consecutive scoreless innings to get his ERA back to where it is right now (one inning short of two complete game nine-inning shutouts). That's one way to look at deGrom's ERA. Also, deGrom's on a 30 consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak, three innings short of the Mets all-time record (32.2 innings) set by R.A. Dickey in 2012.
