  1. I vaguely recall reading something like that about Cincinnati chili history. Your post makes sense because the word that comes to mind when I think about Skyline Chili besides awful is unusual.
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Am I to understand that Skyline is awful at Great American Ballpark, or that it's awful no matter what the context? I had it at a franchise. The sauce is awful. It doesn't evoke spaghetti sauce and it doesn't evoke chili, either. It's some strange concoction and it's over-spiced. And it's watery. The odd thing is that if I was reading this entire thread without ever having eaten at Skyline Chili, I'd wanna eat there very much just to experience for myself how some meal so apparently popular and beloved could be so awful.

My Twins were Rod Carew...and Geoff (I pronounced it, Gee-off) Zahn because his name seemed so exotic I did the same thing. It was a neighborhood tradition passed down to us from the kids a few years older than us. We called it "sending away to the teams". I worked my memory and figured out that I was also in the 4th grade when I did this. I sent away to practically all the teams in all the sports. The worst teams sent you a price list and maybe a schedule. Some other teams were very generous. The 49ers sent me a media guide. The Astros gave out tons of big pictures, stickers and all kinds of Astrodome paraphenelia.
  5. =Ceetar post_id=72067 time=1626811828 user_id=102] probably on par. I tend to like chili on noodles, and chili on french fries for that matter, but I could definitely see how a chain could make that badly. It's like thinking sandwiches are bad because you've only had the play dough they sell at Subway.
  6. Better yet -- tweet post:
  7. Trying to read a story on The Post website these days is really quite ad-nnoying. It's a non-stop barrage of crap and you need to sift through it all to find the text. Try the youtube video of Gary's call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBUhEGcJ8Y0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBUhEGcJ8Y0 I'm nor sure what's more annoying in that video: the "chili" or the dumb host, but at least you get the video of Gary. Here's a better video. It's the Mets feed only, without some dopey commentator and his dopey insights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKagSihAfaIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKagSihAfaI

  9. I had Skyline Chili a few years ago. I've been jonesing for it ever since I Iearned about it -- from watching a Mets game. It turned out to be like the worst piece of crap franchise fast food I probably ever ate. Robert Plant once said that Cincinnati was the worst US city he'd ever toured. He said you'd be lucky to get a decent meal there after 10PM. Figures. And then there was this: https://nypost.com/2021/07/20/mets-announcer-gary-cohen-torches-disgusting-skyline-chili/https://nypost.com/2021/07/20/mets-announcer-gary-cohen-torches-disgusting-skyline-chili/

  11. =metsmarathon post_id=71843 time=1626725583 user_id=83] i ain't got no jerseys.

Who's gonna wanna rent a Daniel Herrera jersey? A guy who can't afford an Alonso one for the same day! The app would set pricing on demand, so Hererra would be like, $25 Alonso might be $125 They wouldn't even need to be game-worn now that I think about it. Game-worn is like an escalator on standard pricing, a "premium" for-subscribers-only benefit. Once this takes off we go to the Dell model where we rent-sell them before they even exist. Take over Stitches and they'll create on-demand, just-in-time inventory. Imagine for a moment that the Mets trade for Kris Bryant. Show up that night in a Mets' Kris Bryant jersey! We could take over the whole world! Where's Robin Leach? Champagne wishes and caviar dreams!

  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I'll get it dry cleaned! Now we're talkin'! (This could be the start of a split thread) Segue Do you loan things out to your friends? Because I can't remember the last time I let some friend or other "borrow" something of mine that didn't come back (no exaggeration) in like 30 times worse condition. If it came back at all.
  16. Today. He's good. I think he was playing hurt and tried to play through it, unsuccessfully. He had an awful stretch just before he was IL'ed. After he was re-activated, his hitting picked up significantly.
  17. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Let's work out a deal whereby I rent a jersey from you and wear it on Tuesday nights. You get the exposure and $$, I get a jersey so obscure you can't even remember which one you rent out They'll come back all mustard-stained and beer-smelly
  18. Baseball began cracking down on Spider Tack, etc. about a month and a half ago. As per the Athletic's reporting, these Mets pitchers have had virtually unchanged spin rates since the crackdown began: Jacob deGrom David Peterson Trevor May Jeurys Familia These Mets pitchers have shown the largest drops in their spin rates since the crackdown: Drew Smith Edwin Diaz Marcus Stroman Taijuan Walker https://theathletic.com/2714821/2021/07/19/this-week-in-mets-how-do-jacob-degrom-francisco-lindor-injuries-influence-new-yorks-trade-deadline-approach/https://theathletic.com/2714821/2021/07/19/this-week-in-mets-how-do-jacob-degrom-francisco-lindor-injuries-influence-new-yorks-trade-deadline-approach/

But the Reds top three starters, collectively, Miley, Mahle and Castillo, are above average - with Miley being one of the NL's best pitchers this year. I'll betcha that the Mets themselves won't pitch particularly well in Cincinnati either.
  20. I have enough game used and authentic jerseys that I can't keep track of them anymore. I rarely wear them these days, except maybe to Citi Field, where I'm pretty sure I've worn one to the game for like the last 10 years worth of games I've been to. I think that my favorite is a 1962 Marv Throneberry home Mets jersey that I bought from Mitchell & Ness more than 25 years ago. Back then, M&N was a relatively unknown mom & pop operation. They didn't sell a Throneberry, or any '62 Mets jerseys, for that matter. But they did sell 1965 Stengel and Spahn Mets jerseys with the World's Fair patch (and Mets skyline logo patch, too - natch). But I wanted a Throneberry. So I asked if they could sell me their '65 Spahn. Only take off all the patches. And then instead of #21, make it #2. And no # on the front of the jersey. They agreed. And so voila, a '62 Throneberry! I doubt they'd do that today. They're too goddamn big, now.
  21. I'd bet that Rojas still called the shots (and every other ejected manager) .
  22. I guess the thing not to do in this series is to get ahead by six runs.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: "And that's ... in there." — Poor Gary Thorne calling that homer I know whatcha mean. I knew that was gone -crushed- the split instant it was hit. Thorne called it like it was gonna be a routine fly out. I thought the ball was so obviously crushed that even Thorne's bad call didn't throw me off the trail. As the ball was sailng outtathere, I'm thinking -- WTF are you looking at, Gary?
  24. And bad luck. If not for rain and injury, deGrom would've faced the Pirates twice.
  25. I'll betchyouse the Mets ain't puttin' on no blarin' loud music in the locker room tonight.
