  1. He ain't gonna pitch on Monday either. So the Mets know today, Saturday, that deGrom will be out for at least two more days. I say "at least two more days" because Tuesday ain't guaranteed either. Me, personally, I'm beginning to have very strong doubts that deGrom's gonna win this year's Cy, let alone the MVP award. I'm starting to doubt that he'll pitch enough innings to even qualify for the ERA title. This is very recurring. The New York Mets ace will miss his scheduled start on Monday after experiencing forearm tightness in a throwing session on Friday, Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters, per ESPN. Rojas added that deGrom experienced similar tightness in a bullpen session before the All-Star break, as well. https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-ace-jacob-de-grom-forearm-tightness-mlb-232935197.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/mets-ace-jacob-de-grom-forearm-tightness-mlb-232935197.html

  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Mike Puma tweets that deGrom will start on Sunday. Why's that? Because Monday is too long to wait. Or not too long. Now, deGrom's start might get pushed back to Monday, depending on I don't know what. PITTSBURGH — Jacob deGrom will be well-rested when he next pitches for the Mets, but the precise date of that scheduled occurrence remained unclear.... Manager Luis Rojas said deGrom would pitch Sunday or Monday, but was waiting to receive more information before setting the schedule. https://nypost.com/2021/07/16/mets-still-debating-when-jacob-degrom-will-pitch-again/https://nypost.com/2021/07/16/mets-still-debating-when-jacob-degrom-will-pitch-again/ The odds that the Mets are hiding some injury to deGrom just tripled.
  5. Today. He's good. I think he was playing hurt and tried to play through it, unsuccessfully. He had an awful stretch just before he was IL'ed. After he was re-activated, his hitting picked up significantly.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Well, I guess that instead of reporting that a particular player has COVID, ESPN can report that The Daily Siftings Herald in Arkadelphia, Arkansas is reporting that the player has COVID. Well, my post was just a hypo. It appears that the media isn't bound by HIPAA rules. (nods to Ceets) Which makes sense, intuitively. It sounds fair for the press to report that so and so has Covid. My post really applies to something like libel, or some factually incorrect statement that is legally harmful to somebody.

Frayed Knot wrote: If ESPN is merely reporting on things already reported by others (which is what they often do while trying to claim credit as the source anyway) then they couldn't be held responsible for crossing the lines no matter what the rules are. Newly on the NYY Covid IL are Judge, Higoshioka, and Urshela. Neither of the other two were in Denver this week AFAIK Assuming for the sake of this post that the media does not have the right to publicize a person's medical records without that person's consent, ESPN could be liable for reporting private and confidential medical information that another news outlet already reported. One could even make the legal argument that ESPN should bear even greater liability if its circulation is far greater than that of the original broadcaster. What would be the logic for it suddenly being open season for all media outlets to publish confidential information just because one outlet erred?

  9. Mike Puma tweets that deGrom will start on Sunday. Why's that?
  10. =LWFS post_id=71456 time=1626410017 user_id=84] I mean, technically, gray isn't a Mets color, either.
  11. ESPN reporting that Aaron Judge is under "COVID protocol." Later sue them [FIMG=444]https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c3/07/50/c3075056fc7a80f266d78517e62bf1a8.gif[/FIMG]
  12. =MFS62 post_id=71478 time=1626456454 user_id=60] The only jersey I own is an original Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodger pinstripe I got many years ago and never wear.
  13. =Ceetar post_id=71429 time=1626393137 user_id=102] If a player wants to get the vaccine on their own and not tell the team, they're welcome to do that, and the team can't demand the medical record, but they CAN demand proof of vaccination so a bit of a catch 22 there.
  14. And even if Fred Wilpon was telling the truth about the green seats being an homage to the Polo Grounds, which he wasn't, that'd hardly be any kind of a consolation when the entire Citi Field exterior is an Ebbets Field knockoff. That's before you even take a single step into the Citi Field rotunda, which is also an Ebbets knockoff.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Wait a minute ... MFS62 is a Wilpon? And I am not a Wilpon. I hope you were trying to show how silly his attack was. Later What attack? I never thought I was attacking you and for that matter, never got Edgy's joke either. I don't see how I wrote that you were a Wilpon no matter how many times I re-read the post. Maybe one of youse could explain that one. I'm claiming ignorance in good faith. I simply used your post as a launching pad to remind everybody that Wilpon himself lied to the fan-base when he claimed that the Mets original colors included black. Maybe my response to Ceetar's post, below, will clarify. =Ceetar post_id=71428 time=1626392782 user_id=102] Turns out though, that teams aren't bound to wear exactly the colors they scribbled down on a press release 60 years ago (which was almost pink btw) for all eternity. It's beyond stupid that teams (mostly certain other teams) think they have to wear something because it's the way baseball players looked 100 years ago. It's 2021, bend the mold a little.
  16. Well Martino's not gonna expose himself to liability just so we could know. Also, nobody said it was a player that tested positive. Just noticing. Not ruling it out.
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: Meh. Hate them. Always have. Always will. Black is not a Met color. You can make a case for it. When the Mets were born, they adapted the colors of the teams that had left New York - Brooklyn Dodger blue and New York Giants orange. But in their later years (from the 1930-1936 and 1948-1957) the New York Giants team colors were orange and black. So, you could say black pays homage to that team. I don't care one way or another, but just throwing that out there. I think that's a load of horseshit -- the Wilpons reinventing the Mets origin story to justify their black uniforms roll-out to that portion of the fan-base that might've been averse to the drastic uniform change. The Mets took blue from the Dodgers and orange from the Giants, and that was it as far as colors were concerned. If the Mets took black from the NY Giants, then where the fuck was that black for the first almost 40 years of the franchise? What? The Mets took a color for their official uniform and logo that they never used before the late 90s? Maybe the Mets took green too because one year, the Dodgers uniforms were green. Maybe the Mets took red as well because the Dodgers numbers were red. Today, though, you can say that the Mets colors include black, with the Mets having worn those black unis for close to 15 years.

Supposedly the idea is to line him up for upcoming in-division games. Gary mentioned this a couple days back. __________________________ Now it looks like deGrom might not start until Sunday, with even Walker, who pitched in yesterday's ASG, getting a start before deGrom. I'm suspicious. The Mets are planning to start the second half of the season on Friday with Marcus Stroman on the mound, The Post's Mike Puma reported. Walker could follow Stroman on Saturday after pitching an inning in Tuesday's All-Star Game, with Jacob deGrom going on Sunday. The team wants to see how deGrom feels when it reconvenes for a light workout on Thursday at Citi Field before flying to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. That would give deGrom 10 full days of rest since his last start. https://nypost.com/2021/07/14/tylor-megill-has-earned-his-stay-with-the-mets/https://nypost.com/2021/07/14/tylor-megill-has-earned-his-stay-with-the-mets/
  22. Mets looking for a third baseman? I know of a third baseman who's got 10 HR's in 300 AB's through the ASG break and is OPSplussing 114. It's this guy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [FIMG=333]https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61BlCXPP5oL._AC_SL1118_.jpg[/FIMG]
  23. =Ceetar post_id=71323 time=1626227376 user_id=102] yeah, it's Rojas deflecting or being clueless (your choice!) they play five against the braves, he'll get one of them. You potentially want to make sure he pitches against bot hthe Phillies and the Nationals in early August, but it's ridiculous to try to project that now. The best way to make hey against the division is to have as many deGrom starts as he can handle.

  25. =Ceetar post_id=71313 time=1626223774 user_id=102] Lindor. Diaz. Alonso. Stroman. All valid choices. It's not a stats thing, it's a meaningless exhibition. They're all stars/good players/etc.
