Again with the edit. I don't change my post after someone responds to it. Where's the "edited" tag? Where?

One could easily make a case for Cohen's "badness", just based on what he did before he purchased the Mets. Easily. I'm not as worldly as Ceetar and you so I don't know anything specific.... So then shut up, Mr. Pile-on low hanging fruit.

'Steve Cohen is a despicable person and has shown no aptitude for running the Mets any better than previous ownership' First I'm hearing of his despicable-ness. One could easily make a case for Cohen's "badness", just based on what he did before he purchased the Mets. Easily. ______________________________ This reads like one of those guys ... ranting away and not making sense. Like the guy that calls for Cuomo to resign a zillion times but also votes for Trump, the Babe Ruth of sexual abusing politicians and supports Trump blindly and at every turn no matter what? 'Cause that's also a pretty good example of "ranting away and not making sense". Did you ever call for Trump to resign? I await your silence which will no doubt, be deafening. I don't think its fair to blame the owner. [Cohen's] proven to be a fan, and has been good to fans. This may be true, but coming from you? You defended the Wilpons as vigorously as you've defended Trump all these years, even going so far as to try and convince us that spending money doesn't matter when it comes to building a winning baseball team. You defended the Wilpons like a snake-oil salesman. You'd probably defend Hitler if he owned the Mets. And vote for Hitler, too if he was the GOP candidate.

Edgy MD wrote: The decision to go for Baez remains ever-puzzling to me. Everybody insists they bring the latest science to developing and deploying their teams, but Baez is the epitome of a guy that art loves and science hates. I'm not nearly as down on Baez as you are. He has overall value. He's an asset at the end of the day. It's just that a big chunk of his value is on the run preventing side. He can play Gold Glove caliber defense at the toughest positions in the field - second, short and center. On offense though, he's a power hitter who makes way, way, way too many outs. I wouldn't bat him higher than 6th on this team. Rojas is batting him in the sweet spot middle of the order.

It's just hard to be right about who or what the impetus will be, when it will arrive, and how substantial the impact will be. I can imagine all sorts of impeti, with varying degrees of likelihood, but the season is going to play out in any number of a billion ways.

I can go anyway I want to with this post because who knows what'll happen in the future? I'm not as worried as youse but still, I'll pile on a little and remind youse that the Mets sucked big time last year, too, even before Lindor and Baez got here, missing the playoffs when more than half the teams qualified.

Cohen won't open the purse strings, why bother? I'm beginning go wonder if there's some conspiracy theory where the owners were able to neutralize Cohen's enormous financial advantage as a condition to him being let into "the club". Its whiffing on Realmuto and Springer and Bauer and then the amateur draft fiasco.

What it may have done is make our pitching staff look better than it actually is (i.e., a 4.39 road ERA with a deadened ball does not cut it). That is something to consider when the Mets made no deadline deals to bolster the bullpen. To tell you the truth, I haven't been high on any of the Mets starters this season other than (naturally) deGrom. Even when they were "going well". I could never quite put my finger on why I felt that way, but was too lazy, or indifferent, to scope it out. But that was my hunch. Also, I haven't been following the team as a whole as closely as I usually would this season -all season long- , other than deGrom's starts and season, which was other-wordly while it lasted.

Memories of Nick Tropeano

Assuming youse even got any. Dodgers, Nick Tropeano Agree To Minor League Deal https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/08/dodgers-sign-nick-tropeano.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/08/dodgers-sign-nick-tropeano.html I ain't got none, having missed his only Mets appearance, so I gave Nick Brandon Drury's old card, and then updated Drury's card. Virginia Zakas, writing for The Athletic's Injury Mailbag, is not so optimistic that Jacob deGrom will return this season: Does it seem likely that Jacob DeGrom will be out for the season? His elbow soreness seems extremely ominous and he's 11 years out from his Tommy John surgery — isn't this roughly the timeline for needing a second one? -— Jon H. Jacob deGrom initially landed on the IL early in July with inflammation in his forearm. He was expecting a quick return, but that didn't happen. Now he is shut down from throwing again but is describing the pain as being more in his elbow. He was able to rule out ligament damage following an MRI and a CT scan, but he may be dealing with a bone spur in the elbow. This can lead to significant inflammation and pain that is tough to pitch through. deGrom was feeling OK throwing from flat ground, but when he moved to the mound his arm didn't feel right. Despite this setback, deGrom is confident he will be able to return this season. I'm not so optimistic. He is going to undergo an MRI in about 10 days to track his progress. If the scan is clean he will be cleared to resume throwing. But if it isn't, he could be shut down for the season. deGrom would need 3-4 weeks to ramp back up if things look good and his pain has subsided. At this point I'm not concerned about needing Tommy John surgery, but if he tries to come back before his elbow and forearm are feeling good, he could risk causing damage to that UCL again. https://theathletic.com/2754072/2021/08/05/injury-mailbag-jacob-degrom-shutdown-concerns-eta-for-kyle-schwarbers-boston-debut-and-more/https://theathletic.com/2754072/2021/08/05/injury-mailbag-jacob-degrom-shutdown-concerns-eta-for-kyle-schwarbers-boston-debut-and-more/

‘If He Doesn't Have That Stroke, He's in the Hall of Fame' For five seasons in the late 1970s, J.R. Richard of the Houston Astros was as intimidating as any pitcher before or since. His legacy is the reverence of the batters who faced him. Excerpt: J.R. Richard never faded. His next to last start was at the All-Star Game in 1980. He was 30 years old, at the apex of his powers, when it all went away. He was the Sandy Koufax of his generation. [***] “I kid you not: If they took the radar gun that they're using right now and they put it on J.R., when the ball left his hand like that, it was probably going 110,” the longtime outfielder Gary Matthews, who faced Richard more than any other hitter, said on Thursday. “If he doesn't have that stroke, he's in the Hall of Fame. He had Hall of Fame stuff and he would have had Hall of Fame stats. J.R. Richard doesn't have to take a back seat to any pitcher that's ever pitched in the major leagues.” https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/06/sports/baseball/jr-richard-astros.html?action=click&module=Editors%20Picks&pgtype=Homepagehttps://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/06/sports/baseball/jr-richard-astros.html?action=click&module=Editors%20Picks&pgtype=Homepage They could've quoted Keith Hernandez for this article. Keith always says that Richard threw the best slider he ever saw.

I loved Richard and I always associate him with Craig Swan because Richard's two best full seasons (1978 and 1979) were also Swan's peak. Might've won the '79 Cy Young Award if voters back then were as knowledgeable as they are today. Led the NL in K's in '79 with 313, 100 more K's than the runner-up.

Jacob deGrom confident ‘frustrating' injury won't end his Mets season https://nypost.com/2021/08/03/jacob-degrom-confident-hell-return-to-mets-this-season/https://nypost.com/2021/08/03/jacob-degrom-confident-hell-return-to-mets-this-season/ ________ Why did deGrom feel it necessary to make that statement? Did his injury suddenly rise to the level where it might prevent him from pitching until 2022? This whole deGrom injury affair seems so opaque.

Actually not Covid Castro
