  1. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Is it time to stop talking about A.J. Pollock? Mets appear to be out on A.J. Pollock in telling Wilson Ramos answer “We are going to be using our resources efficiently, but we also have to look at where our priorities are,” Van Wagenen said. “Before this signing, a right-handed, middle-of-the order bat was real important to give us balance. Now that we have it, that may not be the No. 1 priority.” They cannot get by on just Conforto, Lagares, and Nimmo to start the year. Sorry, I am not counting on Braxton Lee and/or Rajai Davis. Another major league outfielder is coming and it's probably going to be a centerfielder.
  2. Mets sign OF Rajai Davis to minor league contract with invitation to spring training. https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-sign-of-rajai-davis-to-minor-league-contract-with-invitation-to-spring-training/301947292

  4. My guess is that they bring d'Arnaud to Port St. Lucie so that he can showcase himself to the rest of the league. But they will DFA him before Opening Day if they cannot work out a trade.
  5. Centerfield wrote: . . .but I wonder if the criticism of giving away too much last year caused Jeter to overplay his hand here. How long until we can start talking in terms of Jeter being the "Isaiah Thomas of baseball"? Too soon?
  6. Centerfield wrote: Latest buzz seems to be that A.J. Pollock will be their last play. Loogy. We need a loogy too.
  7. Well, they are up the creek now. Also, I get the sense that we are going to be hearing about Realmuto long after he is dome playing. Sounds like he has "future manager" written all over him. It would not surprise me if we are talking about him again in two years when he hits free agency going into his age 30 season.
  8. My bad, it was Jesus Flores. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Flores
  9. Wasn't Ramos once a Mets farmhand who they let get away to the Nats in the Rule V Draft? Or am I thinking of somebody else?
  10. Welcome to Flushing Wilson Ramos. 2.4 WAR. No big trade, just $. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1433&position=C [tweet]https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1074420089842216960[/tweet] Waitaminnit! Who is Wilson Ramon? What position does he play? Oh, wait, it IS the catcher. So, there's only one thing left to say, "Fuck you, Jeter". Later I thought that he wrestled?
  11. And the two years aligns perfectly with when Realmuto is out there as a free agent going into his age 30 season. Suck on that, Jeter.
  12. And you can subtract around $3 million off the $9.5 million for Ramos once they cut d'Arnaud loose before Opening Day. Still money to play with. Pollock and a veteran loogy (one out of Blevins/Sipp/Perez/Wilson) are next.
  13. metirish wrote: Much better than trading players And draft picks. If this is true, then my very strong suspicion is that Pollock is next. Defense is a concern here, is it not?
  14. In my thread about lineups, I said "barring something unforeseen". This is unforeseen. https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-tigers-have-reportedly-discussed-nick-castellanos-trade/301889460 I would not trade five years of Nimmo or Rosario, or three years of Conforto, for one year of Castellanos. I would have to think then, that this would need to be a package of prospects led by Gimenez. Maybe you add in Lugo and replace Lugo with Adam Warren (or Gsellman and replace him with Robertson/Soria/Herrera), but that would be about it from the major league side as far as I can see.
  15. He already made $4.25 last year.
  16. smg58 wrote: If 30 IP is the best he can do, then no. I'm not sure that is fair considering what his role is now. All we need is for him to be the loogy.
  17. Younger than Blevins/Sipp/Perez. Maybe a little better and more consistent as well. But would he me more expensive? And, if so, by how much? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wilsoju10.shtml#all_br-salaries
  18. He hasn't been traded anywhere else, at least not yet. I find that oddly curious.
  19. I think that you can also make the argument that Pollock (when healthy) is the better offensive option over Jones and/or Gonzalez. It all hinges on whether or not Miami blinks (and what their other trade options are).
  20. Lineup A assumes that a Realmuto for Nimmo, Gimenez, and one out of Mauricio/Vientos deal goes through followed by a Pollock signing. McNeil-lf Pollock-cf Cano-2b Frazier-3b Conforto-rf Realmuto-c Alonso-1b pitcher Rosario-ss Lineup B (and B1) assumes that they pivot from Realmuto and sign Grandal, conclude that they cannot also sign Pollock because he is also a guy who rejected a QO, and turn to Jones or Gonzalez instead. Nimmo-cf Jones-rf or Gonzalez-lf Cano-2b Frazier-3b Conforto-lf/rf Grandal-c Alonso-1b pitcher Rosario-ss Offensively, it's basically the same thing to me with different people in the 1, 2, and 6 holes (although I still think that Realmuto is a degree or two better than Grandal, but whatever). Defensively, I think that you benefit more with Lineup A because you have the "true" centerfielder in Pollock (although I do not think that Nimmo would embarrass himself out there), and, once again, I believe that Realmuto here as well is a degree or two better. However, Lineup A carries the risk of placing McNeil in an unfamiliar spot. Going with Lineup B would mitigate that risk. I think that one out of these three is the likely outcome, barring something unforeseen at this point.
  21. He hasn't started a game since he was a Met. Since then, he has had the same type of up and down loogy career as Blevins and Sipp. If his name wasn't Oliver Perez, I would say that you put him in the same classification. Obviously the past history here complicates that. Does BVW care? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/perezol01.shtml#2012-2018-sum:pitching_standard
  22. The advantage that Sipp would have over Blevins, I guess, is that Sipp is coming off a good season whereas Blevins is not. Otherwise, they are basically the same age and Blevins has proven that he can have consecutive good seasons.
  23. To be fair here, I think that he is the third option behind Pollock and Gonzalez. I also think that he would be slotted for rightfield with Nimmo shifting back to center if it comes to signing him.
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: You lose draft picks AND international bonus pool money ($500K per player). SO... second- and third-rounders (along with the slot money, presumably... making it tougher to splash the pot for college-committed prep players in the middle rounds) AND $1M less to spend on intentional prospects. "Win now," f'real. And with this, you have at least a partial answer as to why they are pushing so hard for Realmuto. I think that BVW wants to be strong defensively up the middle. Realmuto, Cano, Rosario, and Pollock would accomplish that. Grandal in place of Realmuto would as well, but the cost as described above would be too high if you were to sign two guys who are yoked with qualifying offers.
  25. Now that they seem to be pivoting away from the top tier relief market and still need a lefty, do you think that they go back to the well on Blevins one more time? Was last season a blip or is his goose cooked at age 35? How would he feel about Diaz getting his uniform number? Will he be OK with #13 again now that Cabby is gone?
