It depends. If the Mets don't advance, and the MFY's do, I want the Twins to win because they have a better shot of knocking them off. But if the MFY's don't advance, and the Mets do advance, I want them to lose because I want no part of them in the World Series. The tough part is if the MFY's and Mets both advance, then I don't know.

He's a schmuck, not because he cares, but because he pretends not to and his idiot manager pretends not to know the rules of the game. Torre wants us to believe that he pulled Jeter in the 7th inning with the streak over, and thereby perhaps taking from him a chance to extend it later in the game. Asking us to buy that is an insult to our intelligence. His swing on 3-0, coupled with Torre declining to use him as pinch-hitter in the first game (despite it being a close game and the MFY's needing baserunners) is more than enough to see that the streak matters to both of them. A hitting streak is a great personal accomplishment...there is no shame in taking pride in it. Keith talks about how giving away at-bats in blowout games can be the difference between hitting .290 and .300. Michael Jordan, needing 63 points in the last game to win the scoring title, told the Knicks he was going to drop 63 on them that day. Rickey Henderson gets a giant gold medallion depicting his record steal total. There are plenty of guys who take pride in personal accomplishment. Maybe if Jeter were like these guys instead of a fucking phony, we would hate him less.

I just found out that the awful song they play in the Barbados commercial is actually a song released on the radio. And that the girl in the commercial is the real singer and not just a model hired to lip synch.

To expand on what Vic was saying, players like Alex Rodriguez during his time with the Rangers, or Travis Hafner this year, should demonstrate to these morons that no one player, no matter how good, can lead his team to the playoffs. By narrowing the list of MVP candidates to playoff teams, what you're essentially doing is defining the MVP as "Best Player in each league who also happens to have good teammates."

FK is, as Thirteen used to be, absolutely right. By my count, there have been 9 Asian Mets (Takashi Kashiwada, Satoru Komiyama, Kazuo Matsui, Hideo Nomo, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Shingo Takatsu, Masato Yoshii, Jae Seo, Dae Sung Koo), one Asian American Met (Benny Agbayani, of Filipino heritage, born in Hawaii) and one Latino Met of Asian descent (Bruce Chen, of Chinese heritage, born in Panama). Of these 11 players, I would say two were disappointments. Kaz Matsui, of course, and Satoru Komiyama, who was signed for little money, but the expectation was that he could be an effective 5th starter. I would say five of these players, ended up being about what we expected. Takashi Kashiwada, Hideo Nomo, Shingo Takatsu, Dae Sung Koo, and Bruce Chen neither exceeded nor failed to live up to expectations. Three of these players, I would go as far as to say were pleasant surprises. Yoshii was much better than we ever expected him to be. Agbayani was a non-prospect who turned in a few good years, and Tsuyoshi Shinjo, signed to be a 4th outfielder, ended up batting third a couple of times during his Met career (perhaps more of a commentary about the lineup than Shinjo, but you get the idea). The one guy that's tough to pigeon-hole is Jae Seo. Seo was certainly a disappointment when you consider what we were hoping he'd be as a prospect. But after his surgery, he resuscitated his career after being a forgotten man. He turn in a few good years, and then had the courtesy to wait until after he was traded for Duaner to start blowing ass.

Great IGT guys. I was out with a work event...so I missed most of the game. My wife mentioned that she was initially upset that Bobby V was left off the poll question, then felt vindicated when Keith wouldn't let it go. Awful game for the guys in blue tonight. Maybe they had trouble warming up again after the rain delay.
