  1. Good. I couldn't stand the guy.
  2. Melky Cabrera had an OPS of .718. If the Twins want guys with an OPS in the .700's, we have plenty of those.
  3. The number of subjects would obviously have to be determined after the number of players/matchups are determined, but you could start nominating subjects now. I don't think we should have any limitation on subjects, so long as they are interesting. For instance, 1986, Shea Stadium, Mets Announcers and Tsuyoshi Shinjo are all subjects that seem interesting enough to warrant a matchup to me.

  6. Didn't Estrada get into a fist fight with Yost during a Mets game?
  7. A Boy Named Seo wrote: People, I think we need a bat in RF. A big one. That's what I've been saying.
  8. .699 OPS at Miller Park. Yeesh. I guess he was the best option though. What's he like defensively?
  9. I'm not looking to put a team on the field that could possibly be better. I want them to put a team on the field that will most likely be better.
  10. What a sad situation this has become. Let's take a look at the major players: 1. Barry Bonds: the player who cheated, then refused to come clean. He exaggerated the negative feelings through his attempts to portray himself as a victim and his adamant denials. 2. The Federal Government: As bad as Bonds is, those who are calling this selective prosecution seem to have a point. Why is Bonds being singled out? While it's true that none of the other guys lied under oath, none of the other guys were forced to testify. Why not investigate Sosa or McGwire? Why let Palmeiro off the hook after lying to Congress? I can't help but think that they are going for the sensational story here. The way I see it, if the Federal Government is going to get involved, prevent future use of steroids. Make sure every player that takes the field in 2008 is clean. And if you're going to investigate past use, the guy who hit .230 using steroids should be investigated just as much as the new HR king. 3. MLB: For sitting back and letting all this happen while reaping the benefits. That was bad enough. But now, to feign shock and disappointment, to suggest the use of an asterisk, baseball deserves this black eye. All of these guys deserve each other. I hope this becomes a big giant mess where none of them come out unscathed.
  11. I don't see how anyone can be happy going into the season with those young guys in RF. With second base set, and no real bats available at catcher, the only way the Mets can improve their lineup is by adding a good hitter in rightfield. And the object is to improve right?
  12. I'm thankful for two performances, Game 1 of the NLCS last year, and his gem on Ralph Kiner night, my son's first trip to Shea. He was fantastic. But during his entire time in NY, you never got the feeling he was completely sold on being here. And there were many times he made it clear how much he missed Atlanta. If Tom Glavine were a girlfriend, he is the girlfriend you would find googling an ex-boyfriend online. The ex-boyfriend who is also your sworn enemy. And now that Tom has gone back to his ex-boyfriend, it confirms all of those suspicions. Sucked in the beginning, sucked in the end, sucked a lot of times in-between making him a minor disappointment overall.
  13. He may have had an effect on those he met, but my initial thoughts when I read the book were that I couldn't believe how incredibly stupid and selfish he was. His family life might not have been perfect, but he had more opportunities than most. He repaid them by vilifying them and cutting them off for years leaving them to wonder about his whereabouts. His journey "into the wild" is laughable as he didn't venture into the "wild" so much as he went camping in well-known, well-traveled hunting grounds. He died just miles away from civilization because he was ill-prepared for his "adventure". I think a lot of kids go through that phase where they are so idealistic and naive they consider trying something like this. I'm thankful I was not nearly as motivated or industrious to try some of the stuff I was thinking of doing when I was that age. The sad part is, I feel like if he could have made it just a little longer, he would have grown up, become less stupid, and would someday look back upon it as something crazy he did as a kid.
  14. Jetes was robbed.

  16. Fuck Glavine.
  17. Actual quote from Hank Steinbrenner: "If he opts out, that's the end. Unless he says he's sorry and promises not to do it again. Then we'll offer him a bigger deal than we were offering in the first place and try to play it off like it's a discount."

  19. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]That would be great, with Boras playing the devil who's convinced us he doesn't exist. I mean, it sounds like it makes sense and all but then you think: A-Rod is going negotiate his own deal?!? To make the MFYs want you is a good way to get another club to up their offer. It doesn't make sense does it? If A-Rod were unhappy with Boras, wouldn't he just fire him and hire another agent? I get the feeling this is just a way for both sides to re-open negotiations without egg on their face.
  20. Other than age, I don't see any advantage to him over LoDuca. I'd rather go short term to LoDuca rather than long-term to Torrealba.
  21. I would want to keep Pelfrey, Milledge, Humber and Gomez in that order. None of them are untouchable. In fact, if we got a good player in return, I probably wouldn't lament the loss of any of them.
  22. Both the Jeter and Clemens plays are examples of umpiring at their worst. Not only did they blow the call, but they refuse to admit their mistakes and, instead, make asinine excuses. The Jeter play is dumb. If Tarasco were not in position to make the play, he would have been moving. Had he thought it would hit the top of the wall, he would have jumped, hit Maeir, wherein the fan interference would have been obvious. Outfielders who camp underneath a ball and put up their glove to catch it nearly always do. I understand if he missed the play at the time, shit happens, but to insist Tarasco wouldn't have caught the ball after seeing the replay is just idiotic. The Clemens play is even worse. It's bad enough to argue that any professional baseball player (or little leaguer, or any random person off the street) could ever mistake a bat shard for a baseball. But even if you buy this dumb excuse, you still have to justify why he threw it at Piazza in the first place. If Clemens really did think it was the ball, he wouldn't have over-handed it toward Piazza, he would have under-handed it toward Tino. For Clemens' excuse to make sense, you have to believe that he mistook the bat shard for a baseball, and then momentarily confused the rules of baseball and kickball.
  23. I've been contacted by counsel for Mike Nickeas. What should I tell him?
  24. I offer it to Glavine without any hesitation. Castillo too. Maybe on LoDuca. Definite no to Green.
