  1. I'll be going to the game this Monday. The game might not have much meaning, but it will be fun to welcome them home from the road trip that effectively clinched the division.
  2. What do we call a day like today? Mets win. Nats lose. Toronto sweeps a doubleheader against the MFY's.
  3. Those head-to-head series can really swing things drastically. Hard to believe that less than a week ago, there was a legitimate fear that the Nats could trim the lead to 1 game.
  4. It's fun to monitor anyway. The only drama left for me is hoping that the lead will stretch enough that the Mets clinch at home before leaving on the last road trip of the season.
  5. I can't remember having a more muted reaction to an opposing team's game tying 3 run HR. "Interesting. I think we'll still win." Sure enough, I checked the score later and the Mets had won.
  6. When he hit his locker, that was the first time he hit his spot in a month.
  7. Kill kill, yada yada etc. Inevitable posting letdown.

It is actual outrage. I think the Mets (the organization, management, the players, everyone) should tell anyone that tells them not to wear the hats to fuck off. It disappoints me that they don't. You don't have to agree. It's a matter of opinion. But my thoughts are not bogus, they are not driven by fashion, or even have much to do with baseball.
  9. Hundley at #4.
  10. Beltran at #3.
  11. Wilmer Flores, 9th, 11 HR's.

I feel like this sentiment was echoed by everyone on the planet last night, whether they rooted for the Nationals or Mets. I wonder if even Storen was saying, "Really? Me? He called for me? Can you just double check if that's what he really meant?"
  13. Shelby Miller is a pretty good pitcher. This game will be no cakewalk. Rest is for losers Terry. KILL KILL KILL.
  14. I like that we will likely personally eliminate Atlanta this weekend. Also, depending on how things break, we may be able to follow that up by personally eliminating the Marlins right afterwards.
  15. This game is crazy. You battle all year long, then in one series, you have such huge swings. If Storen retires Cespedes Tuesday and Wednesday, the lead could easily be 3 games. Instead it's 7. What a crazy game. It occurred to me yesterday that the Mets have never won a closely fought division race in my lifetime. In 2006, it was a run away. In '88 they won by 15 games. In '86 they won by 1000 games. That's it. 1973 was 2 years before I was born. Even the wild card in 2000 wasn't close. The only close race they've won during my life was in 1999, and that was the wild card. Maybe at the end of the day, this will be considered a run away, but for the first time, I might see a Mets team win a tight division.
  16. It's going to be fun to watch d'Arnaud and Conforto hit back to back for many years. I just hope that this doesn't prevent the Mets from getting a middle of the order guy for next year, whether it's Cespedes or someone meant to offset him.
  17. ...is Jacob deGrom. I came to realize this last night watching the post-game interview. If you could cast someone to be the anti-Harvey, I it would be him. Genuinely humble. Genuinely seems excited for his teammates and not just because it gets him off the hook. He had a few bumps in the road this year and I saw that he was visibly upset, so despite the laid back demeanor there is definitely some fire there. Great player. No douchebag factor at all. I like Conforto a lot. Obviously there is David Wright. But I heart Jacob deGrom.
  18. Not to be lost in all this was a clutch double by Duda last night setting up that insurance run. Imagine if Duda gets hot as well? OMFG.
  19. HOLY FUCKING CRAP
  20. My prediction? Pain.
  21. Through July, the starting pitching and bullpen overperformed and the Mets were lucky enough to win enough close games to stay close. The offense sucked, but given what you wrote above, it was to be expected. The only reason we were close was because he Nats were underwhelming. Then they traded for Yoenis Fucking Cespedes and made the National League their bitches. *I realize it wasn't just that. d'Arnaud came back. Duda went insanely hot for a week and a half, and now we have Wright. But mostly it's been Yoenis Fucking Cespedes.
  22. I am way late chiming in here, but it is crazy to me that there is so much attention on these arbitrary limits. Is there a significant difference between 180 and 200? Are we really differentiating between stressful innings and side sessions? If I am pitching, is my elbow ligament aware of the score? Seems crazy to me. My only thought is that any pitcher who declines to take the mound in the post-season because of innings limits will probably never live that down. Ever.
  23. Wow, that really was irrational.
  24. For the record, when this thread started the Mets were 58-50. 2 games in front of the Washington Nationals (55-51).
  25. So I totally would have been down for 2 out of 3 before this series started. Not anymore. KILL KILL KILL.
