The Terry Collins move is indefensible. With one out and a runner on first, the lineup was: 1. Enciarte (L) 2. Garcia ® 3. Freeman (L) Terry lifted Salas, the guy who had just gotten them the two biggest outs of the game with the bases loaded to call on Blevins. Why? Because Blevins is left handed. Here are Enciarte's splits: vs. Right: .743 OPS vs. Left: .744 OPS He is nearly identical no matter who he is facing. In fact, he's slightly better against lefties. Plus Enciarte is a singles hitter. He's not going to take you out of the park. But there was only one out. Meaning that if you bring in Blevins, even if he retires Enciarte, you are going to have to make another pitching change, or leave him in to face Adonis Garcia. Here are Garcia's splits: vs. Right: .707 OPS vs. Left: .792 OPS There is an 85 point difference in OPS. Garcia is much better against lefties. And as JCL said, the result was not surprising at all. With one out, you are going to have to have a lefty-righty matchup someplace. The obvious move is to let Salas face both Enciarte and Garcia, then bring in the lefty to face FFF. If you make the move to Blevins there, you have to fully commit, then bring in a righty for Garcia, then another lefty for FFF. The one thing you cannot do is allow Blevins to face Garcia.
