  1. Aaack. I spoke too soon! Reds have one more game against the Cards. Crap. Put sucking on hold for one more day. Just kidding!
  2. How about some love for the Cincinnati Reds as they wrap up their season. These glorious Reds were nice enough to go 0-6 against our beloved Mets, while posting a respectable 9 wins against St. Louis. Two of three in this last series really put a dent in their playoff hopes going into the weekend. Thank you Reds. You may now re-commence sucking.
  3. I know it's not really Triple Happiness under the defined terms, but last night was pretty sweet. Maybe we call it triple happiness (not capitalized). Mets 5, Marlins 2. Rockies 2, SF 0. Reds 2, St. Louis 1 And even though the MFY's won, the Red Sox had a champagne celebration in the Bronx. We are so triply happy!

  5. I'm going to guess that our odds are pretty good now.
  6. Just checked the schedule. Bumgarner is pitching Friday. As is Carlos Martinez. Unless St. Louis and the Giants end up tied behind the Mets, we are facing one ace or another come Wednesday. (You know, assuming we make it.)

  8. Why is Eric Campbell getting the AB's over Matt Reynolds? I get that we need a RH hitter now that Flores is hurt, but last I checked, Reynolds meets this criteria. Reynolds is a better hitter (.671 OPS vs. .537) and a better fielder. Also has more pop. But Reynolds hasn't had an AB since the Minnesota series. Campbell, has 8 AB's in that same stretch. To his credit, Campbell has picked up 3 hits during those 8 AB's (all singles). But if you are managing, you call Reynolds number before Campbell no?
  9. And also, now that the touching tributes are over, everyone should prepare themselves for the toxicology reports, the accusations, rumblings of criminal charges, and most likely, the wrongful death suits that will follow. Such is the trajectory of tragedies.
  10. Yup. I had the same thoughts riding in the passenger side of a Honda CRV driven by a buddy of mine who had a propensity to pass cars even over a double yellow. I see him post support for Trump now on Facebook and wonder why I trusted that kid with my life. Not that I was any smarter during HS or college. It's just that I had no money for a boat or a motorcyle, and my car topped out at about 38 MPH.
  11. Wow, this team is so different when Syndergaard is pitching and Bruce and Duda are hitting. Like World Series good. I know I'm getting way ahead of things, but man, if we could somehow get to the NLDS and get Noah two starts.... (pinches self) Back to Lugo against the Marlins.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: It's exactly the kind of foolish decision young men make every day. From 17-25, young men pretty much play a daily game of Russian Roulette. I also think of him out the night before a day game and being the spokesman for Five-Hour Energy Drink. This is exactly right. A 24 year old who gets into a fight with someone then takes out his anger by driving something too fast (and recklessly) happens every day. It's the type of mistake that one looks back on later and thinks "Wow, was that stupid." Except some don't get that luxury. I may end up being wrong, but if I had to guess, Jose probably had a few drinks, got into a fight with his girlfriend, then released that anger by driving his boat 100 mph. The texts exchanged by his friends are pretty damning. It sounds like they knew about his temper and had an idea that he was going to do something stupid.
  13. Pitch him Sunday on regular rest if we need the game. If not, rest him for Wednesday.
  14. BP has us up to 86.1% now. St. Louis down to 42.9. 86 seems high for being just 1up in the loss column but then I remember even odds here are 66%.
  15. STOP GIVING UP EARLY LEADS DICKHEADS.

I don't know if they'll win, but I think they'll be, per Keith, on point. Not for nothing, a good chunk of that last night was TC's fault when he let Bartolo bat even though he was throwing batting practice out there. Yup. Another instance of the booth being able to see things long before Terry.
  17. Marcel Ozuna was invited to go on the boat with him. He declined to spend time with the wife and kids. Reports say Fernandez was drinking at a local bar and purportedly fought with his girlfriend before heading out on the boat around midnight.
  18. The cool part about that 1999 race was that if Cincy and Houston tied, we would have automatically gotten the Wild Card, no play in game. Cincy and Houston would have squared off for the Division title. That being a regular season game, the loser would have finished a half game behind the Mets. Definitely an odd quirk. And pretty unfair.
  19. Great stuff FK. It sounds very encouraging. With St. Louis losing yesterday, it takes a lot of the pressure off.
  20. And in a shocking turn of events, Terry Collins has announced that Steven Matz is probably done for the season. Yesterday, Collins had said that Matz, if he returned, would only pitch out of the bullpen. Collins did leave open the idea that Matz might pitch in an instructional league soon, and so he might be available if the team went deep into the post-season. But even then it would only be during afternoon games, on Tuesdays, and would only face "guys who suck anyway".
  21. My question was whether that benefit is offset by the half game we lose to the idle Giants. Again. Math too hard for me.
  22. This math is too hard for me. Did our chances of clinching a wild card slot (any slot) increase despite the loss?
  23. Come on guys. Get it together. Second game in three that they've put themselves down big early in the game.
