  1. There is a Carnac joke to be written here.
  2. Bold prediction: NOT THE 2017 TC DERBY WINNER
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He looks pretty uncomfortable around Maja, doesn't he? I think it's perfect. This is exactly what Terry Collins would look like standing next to Maja. Also, I'm just noticing the girl in pink in the back of the lobby picture. This deserves an explanation no?
  4. In September, gets Murphy out late in the game. Rubber game. Mets hold on to win and take the series. The cover from that night goes farther than one would ever guess in the TCD 2017.
  5. Also Josh Satin, Rick Sweet and Greg Harts. While I was checking out the names on UMDB I couldn't help but notice Eddie Kunz is followed alphabetically by Clem Labine. What are the chances of having the two most vaginal Mets back to back!
  6. Absolute monster. 50 HR's.
  7. Yeah, I feel like he could be good too. Woulda rather shipped out someone like Ty Kelly or something.
  8. This is just terrific. It's the best part of the off-season. Thanks again BG and all the good people Sweden. This reminds me of the legendary quote from Rogers Hornsby People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I take solace in the CPF Tabloid Cover Derby. Otherwise, I stare out the window and wait for spring.
  9. We will need a left-handed pinch hitter once Bruce is traded. Can play OF, IF, and most importantly, can backup Duda if he goes down for an extended period of time. Put Ty Kelly through waivers to make room on the 40 and to stay under the "Guys named Kelly" limit.
  10. I think they should bring back Kelly Johnson. You have to figure Bruce will eventually be traded, and that will leave the Mets without a real good option for a LH pinch-hitter.
  11. I think all of these guys will come in at second place. I mean, it's the exact same and the race wasn't particularly close, so I think it's hard to come out anywhere else. Unless you believe in Atlanta or Miami.
  12. I think I saw somewhere that Keith Hernandez signs his authograph "Keith Hernandez, 1979 MVP". Which is only kinda true.
  13. I went with BOOM. Both were terrific moments, but in different ways. In the Seeds game, the walkoff was somewhat anticipated, as it was bases loaded with one out. It was exciting and fun, but there was also a bit of retribution involved, as they had intentionally walked (I think it was) Matt Reynolds to get to Wright. Definitely a "Fuck you!" moment. The Cespedes game was just the opposite. Out of nowhere. Two out, no one on. You jumped up and cheered, but also wondered "Why the fuck would they pitch to him?" In the end, aesthetics tipped toward Boom. Both are terrific pictures, but the layout is better in Boom. The Seeds cover is cluttered and wordy. Plus the visual of the flying bat and the nonchalant look on Yo's face. Barring a Falcons-like collapse, it looks like this may be our winner. A worthy successor to Yes-Pedes.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I should have also asked about the Serena de Milo. Serena is fine. With her thick, muscular arms.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It took me a while, but I was finally able to get in touch with someone at the Louvre. They assured me that, despite the violent incident that occurred outside the museum yesterday, the YES-PEDES cover is safe and undamaged. While I had them on the phone, I also asked about the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. They said that they haven't had a chance yet to check on them. I'm afraid Venus did not fare as well. Appears to have lost her arms in the incident.
  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: Well, that's ridiculous. You don't wait until the last minute to suspend him (or not). The Mets have to plan their season. If they're missing Familia for a month, other people get tried out in different roles in Spring Training. If they're not, they go about things normally. What this means is that their investigation has reached a dead end, and they're probably putting some pressure on the Mets to put pressure in turn on Familia & friends to cooperate. If it's hit a dead end you can't suspend. Agreed on this. Inexcusable.
  17. I think he signed with the Dodgers.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Blevins for one year at $6 mil plus an option for 2018 acc to unofficial reports. Sandy gets his price again. Certainly beats the hell out of the 3/$19 (plus option) that the Rockies gave Mike Dunn earlier this winter, especially seeing as how the two LH relievers are more or less the same guy. In the four seasons starting with 2013 the stats favor Blevins in H/9 (7.2 to 7.9), BB/9 (3.0 vs 3.7) and obviously WHiP (1.13 vs 1.26); Dunn slightly in K/9 (9.9 vs 9.5) and ERA (3.38 vs 3.56) Dunn is also a year and a half younger (32 in May vs 34 in Sept) and has been available for more appearances (273 to 211) but that's almost entirely on account of Blevins' lost 2015 year due to the broken arm rather than anything chronic or age related. This. Happy about the moves. I don't pretend to have any idea which middle reliever will do well in any given year. I think I was happy with the Bastardo signing last year. But I like that we have a lot of relatively cheap options that have a chance of being good. Well played Sandy.
  19. ABBA approves. (can't escape Sweden on this board)
  20. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR SANDY. SIGN HIM NOW. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/yoenis-cespedes-brother-steals-the-show-in-caribbean-series-opener-052952270.html
  21. Did Teufel mention any reason why he may have checked out? You would think a guy cracks into the bigs you stay focused for a while. That analysis is pretty cool. Agree that it's encouraging. Especially this part: Projection systems don’t see mechanical flaws, and if d’Arnaud can cut down on the bat wrap and more frequently put himself into a primed position to hit, he may be able to erase that massive performance drop-off from this year.
  22. Two worthy candidates. Gonna sit on this a bit and think things through.
  23. You guys are all lucky. I grew up in upstate NY. My first trip to Shea Stadium was in 1998, at the age of 23. I remember sitting through an hour and a half rain delay until the game was ultimately called. I went back for my first actual game later that year. Against the Diamondbacks I think. I have a lot of "favorite" memories of Shea. I'll have to think it through.
  24. seawolf17 wrote: I definitely remember my first Shea experience: http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2008/12/17/frame-game/ Wait, two things, actually three things. 1. Great job on the framed cards. Wow. Terrific. 2. You rooted for the Cardinals? 3. WHY AM I NOT INVITED TO VIEW YOUR BLOG
  25. Travis d'Arnaud is already in Port St. Lucie. He's been working with Glenn Sherlock and already seeing results. http://nypost.com/2017/01/31/mets-need-their-catching-guru-to-make-travis-darnaud-a-force/ He's also been working with Kevin Long. And this bit is promising: The dreaded bat-wrap — on which he starts with the bat in front of his head, pointing at the pitcher, and then comes all the way around his body, making it a longer swing — is history and d’Arnaud is expecting more quickness and consistency at the plate. He hit only four home runs and drove in 15 runs in 2016 over 251 at-bats as his OPS dropped from .825 to .629.
