  1. Looks like he wears #1 in Las Vegas. Of course that's Mookie's number. But it's not retired. Will be interesting to see.
  2. I have this fear that Duda is going to turn into Daniel Murphy.
  3. So does TJ stand for Tommy John? If it's not clear, you get the surgery no? Recovery time is a lot less for position players. Season is lost anyway. Why not get healthy for next year? I guess maybe you have a month to figure it out to still be ok for spring training. But it would be stupid to rehab the get the surgery in March.
  4. Maybe the kid Drew Smith might be ready. Plus we might re-sign Reed. Lots of money to spend this Winter
  5. We went to Citi the day after Tears of Joy. The stadium was buzzing. We had walked off against the Nats. Cespedes was making his debut. But it was Duda who singlehandedly won that game. What Edgy said. Loved the big dude. Will miss him. If Dominic Smith tanks during his audition I wouldn't mind re-signing him. Hell. Even if he does well.

Edgy MD wrote: If Lugo was to go, the Mets would be looking for somebody just like him in return — a guy who can hold down a rotation spot until the featured starters return, who can continue in that role if the rotation doesn't reform, who can plug into the bullpen if it does. Basically, they're a team at the back end of the league's ERA rankings who can't afford to be shedding young controllable pitching that is modestly effective currently with the potential to improve or break through to increased effectiveness. As for Reyes, the plan seems to be to keep him around to continue mentoring Rosario. So I wouldn't be preparing to lose him. It's not unthinkable that he could be back in 2018. I think I'd be ok to have Reyes as our back up SS.

  8. Lucas Duda has 17 HR's and an .879 OPS in 74 games. He's not a great defender, but is no butcher either. I find I'm sad to see him go. I know Smith might be ready, and it might be the best move in the long run, but I'm sad to see our time with Lucas come to a close. Don't really care about anyone else. Maybe Reyes, a bit. But mainly because I was hoping that we'd see Reyes and Wright start together one last time.

  10. Eight weeks after the Big Game, Short Center's broken finger seems to be more or less stable now. For the last two weeks, he had been batting with the finger taped and off the bat. This was the first weekend he could grip the bat completely. Went 6 for 6 with a walk in a doubleheader sweep. Still not ready to pitch yet, but maybe by next weekend. Summer travel baseball is exhausting. I mean, it's nice to travel and see all these different places, and meet new people, but an away game really kills your entire day. We are at least somewhat reasonable in that we only practice once a week. Some of these other teams practice every day. I really admire the dedication of some of those more competitive teams, but also kinda feel sorry for them at the same time. I mean, that is a lot of time to put into youth baseball. We head out of town this weekend to visit my brother in St. Louis. The Hawks start a tournament, with a night game Friday, and a doubleheader Saturday.
  11. What day is it? Sunday? I'll be taking a nap. Enjoy folks.
  12. Maybe they were caught in a van with white women.
  13. You know what's awesome? That we get to argue about this for TWO MORE DAYS until we get more baseball. I love the all-star break! So glad they made it longer!
  14. This is probably for the best, but still a bit disappointing.
  15. There haven't been many great moments this season. Let's savor this one. Mets rally past the Phillies. Astros rally past the Yankees Nats rally falls short in St. Louis. DBacks push the Rockies closer to the pack. Double double your pleasure!
  16. You know, if Colorado falls back to the pack...

  18. Looking for a team that's young, kinda hot. Something fun on the side. It's summer. We're young. And if God didn't want us to use these good looks, he wouldn't have given them to us. A few ground rules: 1. Has to be an AL Team. Obviously. And one that isn't going to play the Mets. Way too awkward dude. 2. This shit is short term. No commitments. Things may not be great at home right now but they should know we fully intend to work things out. 3. We keep this super quiet. Maybe restricted only to this board. We don't post pictures from their games, or update facebook with "CF, did you see the Cleveland score?" [u:123z5z06]No social media[/u:123z5z06]. I don't need this shit getting back to the Mets. AL Standings below: http://www.espn.com/mlb/standings Who do we go with? The smoking hot Houston Astros? Girl next door Minnesota? Make your case!
  19. They should just sit him and play Cecchini the rest of the way.
  20. I wonder if Lugo will regret not getting TJ surgery during this lost year.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The original concept I remember was an "All this winning is terrible!" when the Mets turned the season around mid-summer 2001, starting with the MOFo picnic. Presumably, the evil that was feared is that the Mets' management would be fooled by this illusory success, and wouldn't tear the team down and go for the offseason makeover that they desperately needed. The irony is that they hung in the race to the end, and management still gave the team a super-aggressive offseason makeover for the ages, and it was disastrous. The true illusion turned out to be the Madoff money that was underwriting that offseason spree. Do you remember if "ATWIT" was actually said by those rooting for losses? Or by us on the other side mocking them? Was trying to remember. We used to mock a lot.

  23. That, in a nutshell, is baseball. Congrats Little WP.
  24. I feel like I should disclose that I'm mainly participating in this discussion so I can come back and look at the GG picture again.
