  1. Oakland picks up all of Familia salary. Which can explain why they got crap back in return. Really. Nothing ever changes with this club.

That's the way it seems to me, which is just too bizarromets for me to wrap my head around without a few more cups of joe. The Mets knew. He is examined by their doctors. This is not news to them. They were just hoping it would go away.
  3. All of this makes perfect sense if you imagine yourself an idiot that prioritizes selling tickets in a lost season above all else. The Mets are irate this morning. Not because their star player is hurt, but because he let the press know. Now they will face public pressure to allow him to have surgery. This is Beltran all over again.
  4. Calcification on both of his heels causes pain. Compensation for that causes his leg problems. Needs surgery. 8-10 month recovery. I have no idea why he hasn’t already had this surgery.
  5. I hate this. Really like Familia. Hope we can resign him in the winter.
  6. Nice!!! Always fun to beat the MFYs. Even if we suck.
  7. If that’s true that Familia has been traded then that makes pulling Noah even dumber.
  8. This can only make sense if Familia has been traded. Basically you burn Gsellman for tomorrow.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Now they've got the lead down to three, one duck still on the pond, and 11 outs to get, and Syndergaard in the showers. Beyond comprehension. With two more games against these guys to go.
  10. Dammit. Thought he got that one.
  11. Anyone else regret not signing more Cespedeses?
  12. So it took months of bad bullpen decisions, including several occasions where decisions were dictated by the save rule and the stated role of 'closer', and also also the top three pre-season options being traded, hurt and comically bad, but we may finally see Mickey honor his word that the 9th inning will be dictated by matchups. Media: Why haven't you used Jerry Blevins in a month? MC: We are going by matchups, and we haven't faced any Little Leaguers

My name's Mike Trout I don't make out ...except with my wife I'm not some lout I play south of LA Where it's kinda quiet I don't endorse very much Wouldn't expect you to buy it My numbers are fire According to sources To get me to expound You'll need wild horses Commissioner says he can help my brand Commissioner says I don't understand Commissioner, I say, just watch my game I'll acknowledge you politely from the Hall of Fame Nice!!! I found that to be not the least bit boring!!!
  14. Damn right. Also Commissioner Wiseman: *Universal DH? Sure. As in ban the fucking thing universally. You know what I think about the universal DH? Two words for you. New Coke. *Effective today, the Astros will be back in the NL, and the Brewers back to the AL. I mean, I don't even know what we were thinking. *We're going shelve all the talk about pitch clocks, and runners on base for extra innings until we start losing money. Everyone here doing pretty ok? Good. Let's revisit this in 50 years. *We have started a comprehensive audit of the financials of the New York Mets, SNY, and the Wilpon family. It's incomprehensible that a NY franchise is unable to fund a payroll commensurate with the revenues they receive. We cannot say for certain if they have diverted MLB revenue to satisfy personal debt, but I assure you we will get to the bottom of this and make such moves as are necessary to protect the integrity of the game.
  15. Yeah. It's sad. I've often thought about how deadly '85 Gooden would have been in the playoffs. Imagine if they had a wild card back then.
  16. Ceetar wrote: Plawecki most days. This made me laugh. I went with Swarzak. Not because I think he's worth it, but because they are invested with him. Maybe the title of "closer" will help him turn it around. Gsellman and Lugo are really the only two good pitchers in that bunch. If Swarzak fails it's likely one of them. Probably Gsellman.
  17. Terrific work. Thoroughly depresssing. But terrific work. When you factor in the built in advantage of playing in NY, this is almost unthinkable.
  18. Well not quite. The actual quote: "Mike's a great, great player and a really nice person, but he's made certain decisions about what he wants to do and what he doesn't want to do, and how he wants to spend his free time and how he doesn't want to spend his free time," Manfred said. "That's up to him. If he wants to engage and be more active in that area, I think we could help him make his brand really, really big. But he has to make a decision that he's prepared to engage in that area. It takes time and effort." Story: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-on-mike-trouts-popularity-player-marketing-requires-one-thing-for-sure-the-player/ Starting to think that this Manfred guy is a bit of a dickschnizzle.
  19. 41Forever wrote: I didn't know if all the rumors and discussions about potentially trading away player fit in a particular thread, so please merge if this would fit better into another thread. But I saw this note in a Cerrone post on Metsblog: In terms of what the Mets are offering, Wheeler will net the best return, which is expected to still be something like a so-so, big-league player and/or up to two of that team's Top 15-30 prospects (who are not overall Top 100 guys). If all we can get for a young pitcher with decent stuff making close to the minimum and still under team control is a so-so player and a prospect who can hope to become a so-so player, why would we deal him? It's not like he's a salary dump. I get a trade if its going to improve the club. But it seems like we have so-so players aplenty. Agreed. I don't think Wheeler is making close to the minimum, but it's still affordable. I don't think we should trade any of our guys under control (Wheeler, Matz, Flores) unless we get significant returns.

  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Stupid Bryce Harper last night got me all excited about the ace-heavy rotation, so I allowed myself to dream on the return of a healthy Cespedes, a continuation of Rosario's improvement, and the astonishing return on Captain America, and rationalized it by telling myself they at one time were capable of playing .900 ball. All the way, SHaMs! SHaMVP: David Wright ShaM Young: Zack "18" Wheeler This is my dilemma in all of these prediction polls. Half of them I vote with my heart and end up voting for options like this.
  22. I went with 36 wins. I think they will get a jolt with the return of Noah and Ces. McNeil and Gavin Cecchini will tear it up when they are called up. The bullpen will continue to suck, and get even worse after they trade Familia. ShaMVP: Brandon Nimmo ShaM Young: Noah Syndergaard
