  1. Mesoraco was 25th among catchers with 200+ PA's in 2018, so I guess by that definition, he was good enough to be a starter. Anyway, I'm looking forward to Ramos. If he's healthy, the guy can hit.
  2. I don't get the love for Marwin Gonzalez at all. The guy is 30 years old, and has exactly 1 good season. Last year he put up a .733 OPS, which was right around his career average of .737. I get that he's versatile. But I feel like TJ Rivera could give us an OPS in the .730's. If he weren't from Houston would anyone be talking about him? Getting back to Brodie, I feel like he's painted himself into a corner. Jeff too. If they don't fully commit to winning this year, they're going to get panned over it. Maybe they don't care. I don't know. But I feel like if they want to be able to show their face in public, they need to do a hell of a lot more than just bring in Adam Jones and some no name lefty.
  3. And also. His name reminded me of expensive shoes. https://media.glamour.com/photos/56958af85fff94d44eec8883/master/pass/fashion-blogs-slaves-to-fashion-2011-03-21-0321christian-louboutin-red-soles_fa.jpg>
  4. He was terrible. And he represents, in many ways, the Mets failure to take necessary measures to actually field a contender. When d'Arnaud and Plawecki went down, it was important to get a viable catcher in as soon as possible. The black hole we had at catcher for nearly a month wasn't the reason the Mets season imploded, but it certainly was a factor. And when Mesoraco was finally brought in, well it became clear he wasn't the answer either. I don't know what it would have taken to get Wilson Ramos at the time, but speculation was that it wasn't much. And when he was eventually moved, it was for "a PTBNL or cash", suggesting it wasn't a great return. Goodbye Jose. You weren't very good and we're not sorry to see you go. But not nearly as sorry as we will be to see another version of you show up when we need actual players.
  5. So now with the holidays past us, it's make or break time for Brodie. I think during this month we find out if he'll be successful in getting the Wilpons to back up that big talk from a few weeks ago. Or if this was just a bunch of smoke and mirrors but ultimately resulting in the same type of offseason we've seen out of the Wilpons. On twitter, Andy Martino listed a few targets. Justin Wilson, Adam Warren, Asdrubal and Marwin Gonzalez. Even those that liked the Cano trade largely qualified it with "Well let's see what else they do this offseason." You'd have to think if that's the haul, we can write that trade off as crap. I don't know. I may be crazy but I feel like Brodie has it in him to get the Wilpons to open it up. It should be an interesting month.
  6. I would never have guessed that deGrom would not make the final 8, or that a cover like "Rainin" would. I guess it just goes to show you that the old proverb still rings true. "You can't count your Tabloid Cover Derby Finalists until all the polls have closed and Ben has tabulated results".
  7. Yeah. He's a legitimate MVP candidate with an all around game and he is just now entering his prime. He's a good bet to stay at this level of production for another 7-8 years. At the end of his 10 year contract, he'd be the same age as Robinson Cano. Who we just took on for 5 years.
  8. The more I think about it, it's the only thing that makes sense. If you're Jeff Wilpon, you can't come out and say you're all in, and show up everywhere and say all this bullshit and then fund the same payroll again. If Brodie really is a good agent, he knows how badly that plays out. And the Cano trade. I think it was dumb anyway. But it becomes really inexplicably dumb if you then end up with Lagares starting. At this point, we would have been better off keeping Bruce. Which is why this is happening. Jeff Wilpon flew out to Vegas and had an ultra secret meeting with him. Besides. The latest rumblings are that Machado is going to the MFYs. Fred's gonna lose his damn mind.
  9. I think it's funny that DGW is a terrific photographer, but his avatar is a picture that he didn't take.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I meant the Brooklyn/Queens side of the river. Should have specified that. That would be amazing. With the scene in LIC, and the skyline in the background. I would get rid of the dumb Ebbets field rotunda.
  11. When I heard we were getting a new pool I hoped it would be one of those salt water infinity pools.
  12. Yeah. I feel like they are not appreciating how difficult it is to get this close. Harper, a strong lefty reliever, and a decent back end starter puts this team at 95 wins.
  13. I know the rotation is supposed to be a strength, but I can't help but feel that they overperformed a bit last year. deGrom will take a step back, because how can you not. I think Wheeler kinda pitched over his head in the second half. Noah, on the other hand, I hope will be better. But Matz and Vargas is kinda crappy at the back end. Plus we got no one behind them.
  14. I might be completely crazy, but I wonder if the Mets really are secretly going after someone big like Harper. I mean, they talked so big. I can't imagine "going for it" with this type of lineup. Brodie mentioned that they still have "substantial" money to spend. Plus his last few moves came out of nowhere. Familia wasn't on anyone's radar. So you never know! But then I guess big free agents like Harper aren't just signed out of nowhere. There are stadium visits and wining and dining. Who knows.
  15. Some surprise results (not this one necessarily) this year. A lot of covers I thought would be finalists are gone. And others like Sweep Snakes, just keeps chugging.
  16. Only 4 HR in the second half last year. To the naked eye it seemed like he was making less solid contact after the all star break. Even if the OPS doesn’t reflect it. I was thinking the hand might be hurt more than he was letting on. I don’t know. I still love the guy. I think he’s going to be terrific. I’m glad we didn’t trade him (along with whoever else) for Realmuto.

  18. Like him a lot as a reliever. Kinda expensive for what he is if I recall correctly.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The Gsellman cover is much better (tighter focus much better picture) AND it comes with a Harvey dig! Plus you see the MFYs got embarrased. I can't believe this one is so close! #TeamGselly Yeah. I don't really get the Matt Outta Hell one. I mean, it's kinda cool in that the ball looks like it's floating. But then yeah.
  20. We gettin Harper guys.
  21. And I do see the irony. OMG this guy Alderson. He never says anything. Even when he talks he manages to utter words that don't mean anything. WTF SANDY. TALK TO US. OMG Brodie. can you just STFU?
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Hey Brodie: GM more, talk less. That about sums it up for me.
  23. BVW says Ramos is a middle of the order bat. The Braves have Acuna, Donaldson and FFF. We have Ramos. Jesus.
  24. That seems crazy high for Harvey.
  25. Bold!!! Courageous!!!! “Cespedes will be back mid season...” Look how creative Brodie is when backtracking on prior positions!!!
