  1. Choo is 36 years old, is playing in a hitter friendly park, and makes $21 million this year and next. Texas better be throwing in a ton of money.
  2. Oh, I see now. In that case, I think the semis will be a formality, and the faceoff will come in the finals.
  3. =ashie62 post_id=1089 time=1547419281 user_id=90] It's one big hot mess
  4. It's such an odd team construction right now. I'm guessing that some sort of trade might be coming, but as of right now, I wonder if the plan is to have both Alonso and McNeil start in Syracuse.
  5. I'm looking at the bracket, and I realize Smile High and Wright face off the next round. Which means either Sweep Snakes or Badness will make the finals.
  6. I think Brodie is setting up to trade for Nolan Arenado. Frazier, Giminez, McNeil and Dominic Smith go back. "We'll give you an entire infield for just your third baseman!"
  7. Do you think it ends the Machado pursuit? I feel like if they get him they deal Andujar for pitching.
  8. Yeah, Broxton kinda sucks, but compared to Lagares, I think you give him the nod. .734 OPS to Juan's .667. More prolific base stealer. Seems to stay on the field more. I guess the variable is if you believe that the new swing Lagares worked on last winter is worth anything. We saw it for about 15 minutes, but he put up a .339 average in limited action. Small sample size? Or did the tractor tire hammering lead to sustainable gains? Yeah. I know. Probly not.
  9. I thought Wright was a shoe-in to win. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe Smile High takes it in the end. Are we sending our spokesmodels to Egypt? No wonder we need money in the community chest. I love this contest but I feel like the cost is getting a bit out of hand.
  10. Good for them. I'm sure Brodie will be thrilled when they let him know what happened, he being locked in a closet during this process.
  11. I don't understand this move. We now have six infielders that can potentially start (Cano, McNeil, Frazier, Lowrie, Rosario and Alonso). We have a 7th guy in JD Davis that could potentially be pretty good. We have two starting quality outfielders, and two shitty ones, and no one behind them. We also have Vargas as a fifth starter and no quality lefty relievers. We have no established cleanup hitter. I'm guessing there must be a trade of some sort coming up.

  13. I didn't realize Maja referred to herself in the third person in her native Swedish as well.
  14. How does Maja feel about all these new Barker Beauties? I can't imagine this is sitting well.
  15. $18.25 is the number. So the choice was 18.25 for one year of Grandal, or $19.5 million for two years of Ramos? Give me Ramos any day.
  16. Grandal 1 year deal with the Brewers. Money not known. If the Mets really did offer 4 years he must b regretting it now.
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think it's implying that the Mets are falling like raindrops, with a succession of injuries. The headline isn't in the spirit of the song that inspired it, which is about men raining down from the skies like manna from heaven. It's raining men, hallelujah, it's raining men, amen I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get Absolutely soaking wet It's raining men, hallelujah It's raining men, every specimen Tall, blonde, dark and lean Rough and tough and strong and mean I thought about the injury thing too. But it only mentions Cespedes getting hurt. Maybe at the time it was understood that the Mets were dropping like flies, but I don't remember all the events around it. Either way, a good subheadline could have said "Cespedes joins parade of injured Mets" or something like that. I never understood the double entendre of "Absolutely soaking wet" until right now.
  18. It's almost like the Sports Editor (I'm old enough to remember when there was such a thing) realized that the headline didn't make sense, and felt the need to add the "Sky is Falling" part.
  19. I'll be a heretic and go with RAINING METS over SMILE HIGH even in a losing cause. The latter is clever enough, but the former perfectly captured the mood and the moment. I didn't like the result of that day's game, but I appreciate the back page it left behind. No way! Even the headline fails! If we are staying within parameters of the pun, "It's Rainin' Mets" would imply that there are good Mets all over the place. So many so that it's overwhelming. And we're the Mets.
  20. =smg58 post_id=870 time=1547001146 user_id=62] I'd be shocked if we don't spend at least that much, although it would be disappointing if we only spend that much.
  21. As Davidoff says, we don't know how much is covered by insurance, and that's pretty much the important piece. We can assume it's less than the original 75% since the Mets are able to take him off the roster. How much less is anyone's guess. At the end of the day, the point remains the same. The Mets official payroll is not nearly what it should be for a NY club in an "all in" year. The actual payroll is substantially less than the official number (taking into account clearing Wright, the Cespedes insurance, and the money coming back from Seattle). This will infuriate some fans (like me). Others will say it doesn't matter. And the beat guys will largely act like everything is fine. And none of this will make a lick of difference.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: There's probably at least some harm in a player showing up in camp after a winter of rumours that describe him as being shopped. I guess so. But then by that token, the Noah rumors were no good.
  23. And all fans of 11th Heaven raise their glasses in celebration.
  24. Rainin is such a pointless cover. It says something about the other covers that it's made it this far. I like Smile High though. I could get behind Nimmo being the TCD cover boy for 2018. Can Smile High win in a shutout?
  25. =RealityChuck post_id=700 time=1546807879 user_id=82] What's very noticeable this year is that with all the deals the Mets made this off-season (except for Cano), nothing about them leaked. The first anything was mentioned was when the deal was announced.
