  1. =RealityChuck post_id=32186 time=1582389796 user_id=82] If he's able to pitch, Drew Smith. He showed a lot of promise before the surgery. If not, Tomas Nido. He won't be an all-star, but he should be able to up his batting to backup-catcher level.
  2. =dgwphotography post_id=32263 time=1582559826 user_id=78] .280 /.350 /.460 22 HR 85 RBI
  3. Peterson is not eligible. Lowrie is, since he's still injured and we don't expect a thing. Brach, Marisnick, these names are not very Dark Horsey. Dusk Horse maybe. You know who's a dark horse? Austin Bossart. Jordany Valdespin. These are dark horses. Gonsalves is a good pick. I was thinking of him or Kilome.
  4. Hey CPF! Take out your crystal balls and tell me who's going to come out of nowhere to help us in 2020. The official Dark Horse rules from last year: 1. It must be someone who is not on anyone's reasonable radar for this year. So "I think this is the year Michael Conforto puts it all together" is not an acceptable answer. Neither are top prospects on the doorstep that we expect/hope will contribute. So Peter Alonso, get the fuck outta here. The more obscure the better. 2. Contributions must be made at the Major League level. It's fine if you think Simeon Woods-Richardson will catapult to the top of Keith Law's list, but unless he makes contributions in 2019 as a Met, it doesn't count. Feel free to start your own "Dark Horse Prospect" thread. 3. I'm ok with former top prospects who have fallen from grace. So, if a few years ago, you said Dominic Smith, you would have been disqualified. But with all the 1B options now, and Dom basically an afterthought, he's an ok pick. So is former top prospect Bill Pulsipher, if you're inclined to go that route. I don't know that we have any prospects that are knocking on the door this year. I guess Peterson and Gimenez are the only ones that are close, so we'll exclude those two and open it up to everyone else. Remember, contributions have to be made at the major league level. We're also going to exclude Yoenis Cespedes. Sure, he's coming back from a major injury, but the reasonable expectation is that he'll contribute. David Wright, on the other hand, is eligible. WHAT SAY YOU.
  5. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The problem with Aramark and beer at Citi as I see it is that they too often don;t bother staffing booths that sell the indy brands. The Tuesday Night Mets Club was very disappointed to find the Promenade "Craft" coolers padlocked most nights. Some are available in the clubs, but you can easily miss an inning waiting for the 1 bartender on staff. Yeah, this. You lose too much time having to walk to these booths, then standing in line because they are understaffed. I do make it a point to try to find local brews when I visit other stadiums. When the Mets aren't playing, I don't mind missing more of the action.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Presumably, with the same principals owning the Mets and SNY, the network gets something like a sweet deal on the rights to broadcast Mets games. I imagine any new owners of the Mets, if they cannot acquire the network at the same time, would insist on something like a market-level rate for those rights. And are those rights signed over to SNY in perpetuity? Because if they aren't, the new team owner would have the network owners over a barrel. The channel isn't worth much without its flagship programming. So I see whereas both sides would be in a precarious situation. Oddly enough, it had previously been that having been handcuffed into a cable deal that was declining in value hastened the organization's decline in the 1990s. Funny right? Sterling Doubleday Enterprises often cited that TV deal as the reason they couldn't spend like the Yankees, and once SNY launched, the Wilpons claimed that their revenues would put them on even footing with the team across town. To their credit, they did have one of the top payrolls in baseball for a while until Madoff. If the original deal went forward, they would have been on the beneficial side of a long-term, undermarket TV deal.
  7. The Carter death is still tough. He was a big part of my childhood. Tough to see him go. Plus how fast it took him. Talk about a guy who was full of life. But for Shea, I might be the only here without that strong emotional connection. I didn't grow up in NY, so I didn't get there until I was already an adult. And when I finally got there I remember it being about as shabby as everyone said. I mean, it was amazing to be in the home of the Mets, but otherwise there was nothing great about it. I will remember taking each of my kids there for their first game, my son in 2007, and my daughter who just squeaked in under the wire as a 4 week old in August of 2008. But I was ready for the new stadium. Having seen my kids grow up at CitiField, I already have a much stronger emotional connection to our current home.
  8. Is that the correct pluralization of Cespedes? Half brother Yoelkis on his way. https://www.mlb.com/news/yoelkis-cespedes-showcase-coming-soonhttps://www.mlb.com/news/yoelkis-cespedes-showcase-coming-soon Kinda looks like a caricature of Yoenis. Also, leaner and more of a line drive hitter. I remember reading that Yo's mother was star for the Cuban softball team. I'm guessing younger Cespedes has the same father, hence the name, and doesn't get the benefit of Yo Mama's genes.
  9. Guessing Travis Dar-No for the other 2019 guy.
  10. =seawolf17 post_id=31733 time=1581710899 user_id=91] I think it's still Cohen too, for less.
  11. Lay your bets down now!!!!
  12. This is why the Wilpons Wilpon. Because the world lets them. The New York Mets have unveiled a $57m spring training facility....The Mets only paid $2m of the bill for the upgrade, with St Lucie taxpayers picking up the rest. The new clubhouse will only be used for six weeks a year.
  13. I'm on board. Let's do it. J-Lo and Shakira can do all the halftime shows.
  14. Wheeler is right. The Wilpons suck. Rey was right. The fans are stupid. But not about Rey. Rey did actually suck.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I banged in 2018. I banged a lot. Between Edgy and Ben Grimm, this place is turning into a locker room.
  16. The Wilpons put up significantly less capital because the team wasn't valued anywhere near $3 billion until now. And if the incoming owner has to leverage a significant portion of the purchase price while also not collecting market level TV revenue, that owner will be handcuffed in terms of revenue similarly to how the Wilpons are now handcuffed. Our new owner has to be flush, and needs to be able to supplement the loss of TV revenue that will continue the line the Wilpons' pockets for the near, and not-so-near future.
  17. My list. [CROSSOUT]Iron Man[/CROSSOUT] Very good. Incredible Hulk [skip] Skipped. Not available on Disney Plus. I'm sure I'll circle back to this at some point. [CROSSOUT]Iron Man 2[/CROSSOUT] [skip] Not as good as the first, but still fun. Big downgrade from Howard to Cheadle. Thor [skip] Just started. Not very good so far. Captain America I: First Avenger Marvel's The Avengers Iron Man 3 [skip] Thor 2: The Dark World [skip] Captain America II: The Winter Soldier Avengers II: Age of Ultron Guardians of the Galaxy Ant-Man [skip] Captain America III: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 [skip] Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor 3: Ragnorak Black Panther Avengers III: Infinity War Ant-Man & Wasp Captain Marvel Avengers IV: Endgame Spider-Man: Far From Home
  18. JCL, can you tell me what streaming service you use for these movies? Feel free to message me if you prefer.
  19. Is Susan Sarandon herself a Mets fan? Or did she only come to games because of Tim?
  20. If the players have any sense, they will realize this is a fairly transparent attempt to drive down salaries. No one will feel the need to create a 100 win team anymore. This is garbage.
  21. Like, everyone keeps talking to me about this movie. I guess I should see it.
  22. Some interesting stuff here if you can stomach listening to Fox Business. https://video.foxbusiness.com/v/6131369541001/?playlist_id=938507328001#sp=show-clipshttps://video.foxbusiness.com/v/6131369541001/?playlist_id=938507328001#sp=show-clips I'll summarize for those that don't want to listen. *Wilpons have set the price near $3 billion. *Einhorn is not in the game. He's taken hits since 2011 and this price is too much for him. *interest is "scant" as there aren't many that can hit this price tag *Mets owners are warring with each other and need to sell *thinks Cohen could eventually re-enter the picture. The match is too good for something not to happen.
  23. 14 teams would make the playoffs. Why even bother with a regular season at that point.
  24. Per this article, the SNY contract runs into the 2030's. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-sale-steve-cohen-sny-1.39252944https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-sale-steve-cohen-sny-1.39252944
