  1. I don't know if the even the Rays can help a degenerative shoulder condition. I guess we'll see. Memories. I remember thinking he would suck and get injured. Then he sucked and got injured.
  2. I think that's Billy Hamilton (1 for 22 as a Met). He pinch-ran for McNeil and scored before Rosario. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA202008282.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA202008282.shtml I guess so? I had forgotten that Billy Hamilton happened. In any case, I picture Billy skinnier. And with braids.
  3. Was George Springer a Met last year and we didn't notice? Who is that in the upper left hand corner next to Davis? It looks just like Springer. Maybe Fernando Vina?
  4. Knowing nothing about German Marquez, the only one I'm comfortable giving up is Nimmo. Love the other three.
  5. Jeff McNeil Walker Lockett
  6. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah I'm not sure this works given our relative weakness in trade fodder. I mean it could but would we want it to The contract is an albatross. His value, including the contract, is negative when you consider his unilateral ability to opt out. If Arenado would "opt in" as part of the trade... The contract still makes it hard to trade quality playets for. I would offer some C level prospects at best and if they say no they can keep that contract. This is right. If they want anyone of value, they better be ready to take Cano. Of course Cano has a no trade.
  7. Arenado may or may not be great. I'd have to look at the splits and the analytics to know more. But he is certainly expensive. Prohibitively so. He also has a stupid contract. The team that trades for him has no security that he will stay, nor will they have any security that he will leave. Imagine trading yourself into the downside of either scenario. A player one year away from free agency doesn't have much value. Arenado is older than most of those players, more expensive than all of them, and is the only one that will cripple you for years financially if he suddenly falls off a cliff or gets injured.
  8. =G-Fafif post_id=52071 time=1607794741 user_id=55] It's done, per Heyman: James at 4 years, $40 million. Let us hope he comes of age in a Mets uniform.
  9. I think Sandy will play it level-headed. But Cohen has enough money to say "either take the current deal by 5 p.m., or I pull it and give Realmuto full asking". Maybe the personality too.
  10. I like Jerry. If he's our best LH reliever in 2021 that will be a bad job.
  11. Buster Olney says on ESPN radio that he will be his family farm that Springer ends up on the Mets. I have no doubt the Mets will do their part, but this is the first place I've seen it suggested that George is interested.
  12. I went with Mr. Met. But this was tough. I love the look on the Wilpons' faces in the first one.
  13. Lance Lynn to the White Sox. Chicago gives up Dane Dunning, their top pitching prospect. Consensus top 100. I'm guessing the guy was like a Justin Dunn level prospect. Maybe a tick better.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: They really need to resolve this. If the players are holding firm on no DH, then let there be no DH. The article is awkwardly written. The players want the DH. Owners want it too. But the owners think they should get something for it. Like expanded playoffs, which to me sounds like a disaster. I think it's a “who blinks first” situation.
  15. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=51781 time=1607351778 user_id=68] Those pathetic, embarrassing days appear to be over.
  16. Ha-Seong Kim posted. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2065944https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2065944 The Bucheon native had the best campaign of his career with the Heroes last year, hitting .306/.397/.523 with 30 homers, 109 RBIs, and 23 steals. How cool would it be if FK, JCL and I all got to wear jerseys with our names next year.
  17. Unrelated, but I saw a picture of Andre Dawson's signature this weekend. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51lqM8wl1PL._AC_SX425_.jpg> https://fanatics.frgimages.com/FFImage/thumb.aspx?i=/productimages/_3911000/ff_3911047-bd1067b1f71832876000_full.jpg&w=900> I cannot reconcile how such a terrifying man has such a girly signature. I half expected there to be a butterfly at the end.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I think the Mets should offer Carlos Beltran and see if Philly bites. This is right. Hire Beltran. Let him recruit Springer. Then trade him to the Phillies. Sorry Carlos. I don't make the rules.
  19. Now virtual! Not sure how this would even remotely work. The whole idea of the winter meetings is to bring everyone together to make transactions easier. I don't see how this happens through zoom. It's not like you're going to talk to Bauer's agent while the Blue Jays are in the waiting room. Anyway. Should be an interesting 5 days. I think it's not likely that any of the big free agents sign this week but hopefully we'll hear more news. Let's get Brad Hand.
  20. Rumors are that Philly is open to hearing trade offers. Need to unload his contract. Bring him home Sandy!
  21. If you know that the Mets can't sign every free agent out there, then it makes sense for a fan to root for the ones they prefer. My order of preference for the top three free agents are: 1. Springer 2. Bauer 3. Realmuto Knowing it's unlikely we get all three, McCann is a nice fallback for missing out on Realmuto, who is rumored to not want to come here anyway. If we get Springer, Hand, and the best SP option (let the analytics guys figure out who this is), and McCann, I'm good. If we end up with McCann, Jackie Bradley Jr, and Cole Hamels, I'm not.
  22. The first is more indicative of the season. But the blurb about knocking out JRod wins it for me.
  23. =Centerfield post_id=48516 time=1602682913 user_id=65] Gotta love everything we are reading so far. I think to make a good owner, one has to be: 1. Rich enough to fund a big market payroll 2. Smart enough to hire good baseball people to run the team 3. Humble enough to stay out of the way The Wilpons were 0 for 3. The rumblings around Cohen suggest he will hit the first two. The third remains to be seen.
  24. Of course I'd prefer signing all of the best players available. But I don't think that's what he will do. And if he is going to limit his spending, I'd like him to use his resources on Springer and pitching. I've never asked that my owner sign all the best players, or have the highest payroll in baseball. I've only ever asked that the Mets owner fund a payroll commensurate with market size. Basically, live in the top 3-5 teams or so. Play in the same neighborhood as the Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees. I don't think that makes me a Wilpon apologist. But as Ralph says, your mileage may vary. And I get that Steve Cohen is richer than all the other rich guys. That doesn't mean he has to spend all those riches on baseball. If he does, great. But I don't think he will and I don't think he has to.
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: Except that at least part of McCann's hitting is due to being platooned (much better vs LHPs: OPS+ 135 vs 89) and not having to shoulder the mantle of being an everyday catcher. iow, we shouldn't expect an automatic doubling of his stats simply by making him the lead backstop. That said, I think he's a worthwhile target to pursue even as I admit that virtually all of my knowledge on him is based on recent stuff I've read rather than any first hand knowledge. Exactly right. And there are a lot more RH pitchers than lefties. It's reasonable to think his offense will drop from what he's shown the last two seasons.
