  1. Too bad. Left some meat on the bone there. Hope it doesn't come back to burn us.
  2. Crappy walk there by Severino costs him a run. Let's score 10. JD gets plunked.
  3. I literally have one. Like when he was drafted they listed his height, and said something like "but doesn't throw hard for someone that size". So my first impression of him was that he was kind of a wuss. I'm thrilled he's pitching so well, but to be honest I have no idea how he's getting it done. It doesn't seem like he has great stuff. I guess he gets a lot of soft contact.
  4. Some dumbass named Ty France grounds into a DP with the bases loaded. Score remains 4-1 Braves. Sale through 3 innings. Mets will likely need to win again to keep pace.
  5. Would be nice to see the DBacks stumble. Of our WC competitors, they have the toughest schedule. 4 with Milwaukee after this (though the Brewers might clinch). Then end the season with three against SD.
  6. Christian Scott goes under the knife next week. The article says he's having Tommy John surgery with an internal brace. I've never heard of anything like that. But they say it shortens the recovery timetable. https://sny.tv/articles/mets-christian-scott-tommy-john-surgery-internal-bracehttps://sny.tv/articles/mets-christian-scott-tommy-john-surgery-internal-brace
  7. DJ Herz starts for the Nats. Lefthander. Overall numbers are pretty good. 3.70 ERA, 1.21 WHIP. He's been sharp his last two outings. 10 IP, 1 ER. In his two starts against, the Mets, he was tagged for 4 runs in 4 and a third back on June 4. A month later, he shut down the Mets for 1 run over 5.2 IP. Might be a low scoring game. Quintana will have to be sharp.
  8. =DocTee post_id=170671 time=1726612260 user_id=85] [bLOCKQUOTE]Game threads are basically garbage anyway[/bLOCKQUOTE] I lived in California from 1998-2014 and absolutely relied on the IGT to keep me apprised of what was happening (I was unable, or too cheap, to access the games from there). Following the games here when I can watch on TV is not as beneficial but I like to read a quick recap when I miss the games for one reason or another.
  9. =whippoorwill post_id=170653 time=1726606624 user_id=79] =Centerfield post_id=170646 time=1726602743 user_id=65] I didn't realize until just how that the IGT argument was real and not tongue in cheek. To be honest, I'm still not completely sure. I think a much bigger deal is that we leased an office in Stockholm without forum quorum.
  10. Inspired by the other thread, considering the modest expectations coming into 2024, how far to the Mets have to go in order to consider 2024 a successful year?

  12. I've forgotten the original criteria. But if I had to set it now, I'd say that to be a Dark Horse Met you must be: 1. Not reasonably expected to contribute this year. No projected starters. No big name free agents coming off a down year. So someone like Luis Severino would not qualify. 2. Not a premiere prospect (or at least, no longer one). No Drew Gilbert, Acuna, Clifford, etc. However, if Gavin Cecchini were to somehow resurface and make a contribution, he would qualify. 3. The type of player if he were hurt/released/traded prior to the season you wouldn't care. Jose Iglesias fits that bill. If he tore his ACL in spring training no one would have lost any sleep. If that happened to Mark Vientos, we'd have been upset. Kinda similar to Ronny Mauricio. Guys that I think qualify are Iglesias, Butto. Dedniel Nunez. Luis Torrens. I'm debating whether David Peterson qualifies. I think if I was told his rehab took a step back and he was going to miss the season, I'm not sure I would have cared much, if at all.
  13. And you guys laughed when I said they reached the soft part of their schedule. They have 5 more games against the Angels. 6 against SDP/DET.

  15. Why did we pull Manaea? Especially with no off days and Megill tomorrow.
  16. This offense is pathetic. Day after day.
  17. Yamamoto vs Fried. Good pitching matchup. It's only Yamamoto's second start since coming back from the IL. Last time he was limited to 4 innings, 59 pitches. Hopefully he can give some more length tonight. Fried lost his last start against the Nats, but has been pretty good all year.
  18. I didn't think Grimace was still a thing. Maybe woulda been funnier a few months ago. Anyway, not a big deal. I imagine this is for this last homestand only.
  19. Would be nice if the rest of the team would show up and sweep the Nats and give Lindor a break.

My version of how things play out has Darling pitching the last game of the season against the Expos, rather than Gooden on three days' rest (which is just what Davey did in the first game against the Cardinals) and Gooden pitching the one-game playoff, winning his 25th and the MVP, Andujar melting down just like he eventually did in game 7 that year, and the the postseason, when they blow through the Dodgers and the Royals, as almost an anticlimax. It could have happened that way. Winning in 1986 made that one hurt less, but 1985 seemed purer somehow (though not as pure as 1984). That 1986 team was almost too good to root for. It gave me an idea of how being a Yankees fan can corrupt your soul. I thought about this game too. But too many variables for the rest of the season and the entire playoffs kept it off. Though I think the 85 team steamrolls the competition.
  21. I don't have an opinion on whether you should post it or not. But as to the message itself, though it certainly suggests negative, it could be positive as well. Like the woman had a flashback and realized that the thing she was mad about was necessary. You punched my date because he was abusive to me. You rejected me because I was clearly in no condition to consent. Maybe 70% you roofied me, 30% you're a standup dude.
  22. The White Sox are now 33 and 114. A .224 win percentage. 15 games left. To get to 39 and 123, the Sox need to go no better than 6-9. (.400%) To get to 41 and 121, the Sox need to play above .500 and finish 8-7. (.533%) If they continue at their current pace, the Sox will go 4-11 and finish with a record of 37 and 125. They've reached a soft part of their schedule, relatively speaking, with 6 games against Oakland and the Angels. I would love if they can lose all 6 and get to 120 so they can sweep the Padres in their next series.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Just another YUGE MVP moment for Lindor. Not that MVP votes should swing on single ABs because you see your guy's big moments but not necessarily his competition's. But, Dayyyyum, that was big!! ... and needed. This was such a huge win. And with one swing. MVP indeed. I don't have much evidence to back this up, but I guarantee you if the Mets got no-hit yesterday the Braves would have won last night.
