  1. Well, you knew this was coming. Who had Rob Parker in the "Reyes isn't Jeter" sweepstakes? http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/7032587/new-york-mets-shortstop-jose-reyes-cheated-team-fans-exiting-season-finale-early
  2. I'm at the office and couldn't listen. How obnoxious was Francesa?
  3. This past Saturday against the Phils. In the seventh inning Little Solo called the Val Pascucci HR. The look on his face when Val went deep was priceless.
  4. The Detroit and Texas road swing was kind of awesome. A Grand Slam! Two of them! As was the 4-game sweep of the Reds in Cincy where Murphy hit like .700 for the series. Tejada and Duda developing into real big league ball players was cool, too. The last four weeks of awful in-game work by Terry mars what I thought was a good first season for him.
  5. Acosta/Parnell's inability to shut the door ended up giving Reyes 2 more ABs. Going 1-2 in those spots raised his BA from 335205 to 335820. Those could be 2 difference-making ABs. He also was on deck with Turner at the plate. Without the DP or game-winning hit, he might have gotten another chance last night.
  6. The article implies the Yanks asked to use Newark for 1 year, and the Mets insisted on rights in LI or Connecticut on a permanent basis. If true, it makes the Mets look a little dick-ish. Though that comes from Lonn Trost, who I am not convinced is telling me the truth.
  7. Idiot alert. Game is not on SNY or Channel 11? Where it be?
  8. Angels and Jays tied at 3 in the 12th.
  9. It's like a reverse Joel Piniero game. And, Braves? You're welcome.

I blame it on Citi Field's' dimensions. And the stupid Dodgers' rotunda. Not necessarily in that order. I thought for sure you'd blame Jeff first.
  11. Yeah, it was the Steve Olin mention.

As of 40 seconds ago and on the heels of the latest Alderson clip on the CF walls, he's now suddenly all for bringing in the CF walls. The team needs HR's to win and Mets are disheartened from the get go at Spring Training when their bombs three hop the Florida OF walls that are as far as away as Citi's, sez Ojeda. You shoulda heard what he was saying up until 40 seconds ago. OF dimensions don't matter, he' say, while rewinding an Ike Davis 440 foot bomb for his Exhibit A. Ojeda's worthless. Steve Olin would agree. Wow.
  13. They can find a way to do it if they want to (bringing in the fences). They changed the line distances at Shea from 341 to 338 by adding a small fence. Was it pretty? No. But nobody killed themselves running into that brick wall, either.

  16. You're both correct for pointing that out, of course. I wanted to draw attention to it because it was the first I had heard anything from New Era on the subject.
  17. Kinda hard to measure how teams will play once they clinch. Didn't the 86 Mets win their last 8 games in a row?
  18. From ESPNs David Schoenfeld: Red Sox interleague series: Phillies, Nationals, Marlins (2), Cubs, Braves. Yankees: Reds, Braves (2), Mets (2), Nationals. Rays: Braves, Marlins (2), Mets, Nationals, Phillies. The Braves play six interleague series and get the Yankees twice and the Red Sox. The Phillies play five interleague series and get the Red Sox but not the Yankees. I like that someone else in our division (Atlanta) gets 6 games with the MFYs. I also like that Florida gets 6 games each with Tampa and Boston.

  20. August 17 at the Nats might be a target for the Solos. Hitting a beach house if all goes to plan on the 18th. We could stop in DC a day early.
  21. Also, 13 of first 16 games vs. Braves, Phils, Giants. And like this year, two early trips to Citizens Bank.
  22. Paul Molitor.
  23. Oh, Tracksuit... For all of its silliness, Silliness, really? For what it's worth, New Era, which manufactured the American flag hats used in all MLB games Sunday, said it would not have objected to the Mets wearing first responder hats, as the team so memorably did in 2001. That's the only real piece of new info I got out of this story. Good to know New Era at least has some sensibility. It is difficult not to conclude that MLB, tempted by memorabilia money, made an odious calculation. If it is in fact difficult to not conclude this, then I would hardly call the outrage "outsized." There have been conflicting claims about potential fines that would have been levied on players and/or the team, but one suspects the amount would have been affordable for anyone wishing to stand on principle. Then please get to the heart of the matter, and find out about the potential fines, don't just speculate that the amount would have been affordable. because nothing related to those memories is trivial. Then what is the point of this? Didn't you spend the whole column telling us that this is entirely overblown?
  24. I agree with #1--the pregame was handled beautifully--and I give credit to Newman for at least being a stand-up guy. I'm sure he's dealing with plenty more people who are not quite as eloquent as Centerfield, and that can't be easy. I can't imagine trying to be the mouthpiece to the public for this organization. However, what about the people who couldn't watch the pregame? The first thought of a Met fan tuning in would have to be: "where are the hats"? Also, didn't the Mets put in a press release recently that they would be wearing the caps for the game? What changed? And if, as Newman says, the asked and asked, and MLB said no, then why is MLB saying that no such thing happened?
