  1. I continue to chuckle at the Gene Wilder pic.
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think the sooner the Mets go Chapter 11 the better, but I'm afraid it could be a long, slow spiral. Is this the Megdal piece you referred to a while back in the other thread?
  3. As much as the Mets' owners need someone to take them up on their offer, it's hard to see what anyone would, on anything like the terms they're talking about. While making payroll isn't currently a consideration, since it is the off-season, the Mets have a revenue-sharing payment due to Major League Baseball by the end of November of between $15-20 million, and owe around $26 million in their twice-annual debt payments on Citi Field to the city of New York on December 15. To date, MLB has been patient and forgiving of the Metsa loan of $25 million due back at the end of the 2011 season hasn't been paid back yet, but Commissioner Bud Selig continues to support this ownership group publicly, if vaguely. But chances are the city of New York won't be as patient or forgiving, potentially triggering a rush from the other lenders to get what money they can now. Notice who the Kosman piece says Met ownership had to reassure about its minority owner planits other lenders. This head-just-above-water routine will continue for as long as the owners can keep it going. It was the decision to invest so much of their money with Bernie Madoff that put Wilpon and his partners in their current financial predicament; it may end up having been their decision to sabotage the Einhorn deal that drags them under. Sad, grim, pathetic. Ladies and Gentlemen, Your 2012 New York Mets!
  4. Sniff. Are my threads so easily forgotten? http://cranepoolforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17092
  5. Yeah, if I was related to Mel Rojas, I'd be OK with being called Alou.
  6. Holy crap, this looks good: http://www.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111103&content_id=25882718&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb Particularly some of the stuff from John McNamara: McNamara on Boyd not being available to pitch in Game Seven of the World Series because he was drunk: Well you said it, ... that's the exact reason. And a little admission from Mike Scott: Scott on accusations that he scuffed baseballs in the 1986 NLCS: They can believe whatever they want to believe. Every ball that hits the ground has something on it. ... I've thrown balls that were scuffed but I haven't scuffed every ball that I've thrown.
  7. I lurked Fall '04 into the '05 season before joining. I am pretty sure I came here via Sons of Sam Horn, where I spent a lot of time lurking in the 04 postseason. Someone here posted a good luck from the enemy of your enemy message, and I followed the link back.
  8. Toronto: Paul Molitor? He had a monster year his first year with the Blue Jays.
  9. Good Ole Nipsey confusing the Cubs and White Sox.
  10. Manny for the BoSox. Wish I could think of all these before hitting submit multiple tiimes.
  11. Kevin Brown as an alternate to Straw in LA?
  12. Atlanta has to be Greg Maddux, right?

  14. US v. Taiwan? Let's play it in Williamsport.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I'm getting this vibe that the only way the Mets will keep Reyes is if he turns down some other team's big fat stacks: I don't see the Mets top offer for Reyes being even in the same time zone with competing offers. But we shall see. Me, I'm extremely doubtful about this -- I believe I've seen Reyes' last game in a Mets uni. Unfortunately, I feel the same.
  16. I'm late to the party but I thought the two most important PAs in this game belonged to Pujols. In the first, with 2 out and nobody on, Harrison completely avoided pitching to him. 4 in a row out of the zone, and then he of course loses his control, walking Berkman and going 3 balls on Freese before serving up a meatball. I thought it would be big for Texas to get out of that inning with a 2-run lead. Go after the big guy with a 2-run lead and the bases empty. Jeez. The other big moment I thought was his getting hit with an 0-2 pitch. He looked bad on the first two pitches. They get him out there, the 2-run rally probably doesnt happen.
  17. Not to go all Jonah Keri here, but Ron Washington must stop going to Alexi Ogando, who is nearing David-West-World-Series levels of ineptitude. This series: 2 1/3 IP, 7 hits and 7 walks in 20 batters faced.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Ceetar wrote: Mike and Mike this morning had the gall to say something along the lines of "Shame it was Freese. If it was Pujols, this game would've been truly epic." If THAT doesn't illustrate the typical ESPN star-driven mentality absolutely fucking perfectly ... "If it was Pujols, that would've truly epic. Now Ron Jaworski to discuss the Kansas City chiefs game on Sunday!" I was listening to Mike and Mike today...I never heard them say anything like "shame it was Freese".
  19. I remember seeing some old video (maybe even a Mets Yearbook?) where the walls looked like they were a light shade of green or blue. Didnt think they were white, but maybe that's the quality of the pic/video I was seeing.
  20. Christ, could blue walls be a worse look with the rest of the interior of the stadium? People are really worried about this shit?
  21. Possible tweaks to the game 7 starters? Washington almost has to go to Holland, doesn't he? For LaRussa, I don't get think there's any great difference between Lohse and Jackson. *Or Carpenter on 3 days rest, as Bucket says. didn't think of that.
  22. Great quiz. I got a few on first reading, but whoever wins the DVD definitely earns his Mets fan card.
  23. I throw this little tidbit around whenever we get deep into a WS... Since the last team to win a WS Game 7 on the road (1979), home teams have gone 20-4 in WS games 6 and 7.
  24. Re: Game 2 that Bucket mentions above. In the first inning, when the Mets scored 3 runs, Willie had LoDuca bunt after a Reyes leadoff double...he was already in scoring position. I know you can't predict future results, but the Mets gave up an out in an inning in which they would score three runs.
  25. Jonah Keri takes down Ron Washington. And there is little I disagree with. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/7104/cardinals-win-the-battle-of-managers-game-1
