  1. Only the 10th 1-0 game in the history of that ballpark.
  2. Either I am reading this wrong, I am missing a joke, or this has to be wrong: Jayson Stark ?@jaysonst 3m In other #Yankees news, @chrisidore reports that if they get eliminated tonight, tomorrow will be 1st "meaningless" home game since 10/3/63
  3. The media would be destroying the Mets if this were their fuckup.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: I don't know how long Ron Washington lasts coming so close so often. About 5 more days? I can't see him surviving another collapse.
  5. If it's a health thing and they need to replace Terry, I think they'd go with Geren. But most likely it'll be Terry. And we'll be running a similar poll next year.
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The Reds have absolutely slaughtered the Mets in each of their last 4 series. It would be nice to spoil their run too. I thought the Mets played well in Cincinnati last year, with Murph having a monster series. I know they kill us in Citi.
  7. G-Fafif wrote: Love when somebody cares enough to do stuff like this. The Immortal one earning his nickname.
  8. The MFY narrative of Pettitte's HGH use has been: "he didn't do it for a competitive advantage, he did it to return quicker from an injury." That's all well and good. it also conveniently leaves out the fact that returning quicker from an injury IS a competitive advantage.
  9. Andy Pettitte retiring...again.
  10. AND, Helton pulled off a hidden ball trick in the game.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: btw, is this the first time this year with the new IL format that a team is doing a two-team/one-city stop like the Giants are this week? - first Citfield then YSIII Seems to me that that would be the preferred way to do things if possible: Oakland on the IL sked this year? - knock off your Giants series at the same time. Hit the ChiSox & the Cubbies back-to-back, etc. This year, I think this is the first time anyone is doing this. Off the top of my head, the Reds did it last year or the year before here in NY. A couple of years back the Pirates played the Cubs and White Sox back to back in ChiTown.
  12. Alumni outreach that includes players outside of the following: - 86ers - Rusty - Seaver - Piazza - Franco
  13. I'd be satisfied with the overall size of the Mets HOF if they rotated exhibits/displays frequently.
  14. Trying to force an "8th-inning song" on us, because Oh My God the Red Sox have Sweet Caroline so we have to find a song too.
  15. Instead of doing it now, run the free kids ticket offer that they're doing in June/July/August instead. By September, it's cold, school has started, and a lot of fans have moved on from the Mets.
  16. Rangers are in an '07 Mets-esque freefall. They could easily fall out of this, giving the MFYs another glimmer (albeit a small one) of hope.
  17. Flying Willie out to Anaheim only to fire him at 3 AM NY time (following a win, no less). Not that firing Willie was wrong in and of itself. It's the circumstances around the whole thing.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Well, my son was in the Mets Fan Club once, and when an 8-year old says, "What's all this crap?" you know you have a problem. don't they give you free tickets, a mets cap, etc? what else are they supposed to give you? Another issue: at Shea, the fan club did give you 2 tickets in addition to all the other crap. When they first moved into Citi, they no longer included the tickets. I think that has changed, but that's another example of a way they messed with their fans with the new ballpark.
  19. You didn't point out that Machado had a HR taken away from him in the 8th by noted defensive ace Alfonso Soriano. Well if Tampa wants to avoid an epic collapse (they're almost there), they better knock the Twinkies around this weekend. Cleveland also has a White Sox team that has all but given up. And I am sure the Red Sox would love nothing more than to beat up on Yankee pitching again this weekend. I'm still desperately clinging to the idea that we can keep the MFYs out of any sort of postseason, but I'm losing that faith each day.
  20. Lefty Specialist wrote: The question will be- will the FAN become a complete Yankee cheer squad, where no dissent is tolerated? If so, the Schmooze is doomed. They'll just re-run Francesa to fill the time. Though I've grown weary of them all, Boomer/Carton, Benigno/Roberts are all Mets fans.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: I briefly saw in passing that Pedro Lopez has joined the staff as a September coach. ("Run that ball out, September!" "Apoyarse en ella, Septiembre!" "I want to see some hustle, you lazy, good-for-nothing, autumnal lunar cycle!") I didn't see anything indicating Backman has gotten the same honor (though he did, last season, I believe). If you're looking for indicators, that's certainly one. Gary and Ron talked about this last night or the night before. Wally did not get the call this year. Ron implied that management was displeased with comments about Davis when he was first sent down, and that has a lot to do with him not being called up. [i don't specifically recall what Backman said; I think I read somewhere that he thought most of Ike's problems were in his head...I can't imagine that alone would aggravate the front office that much]
  22. The Shea Stadium games countdown, by opening it up to a sponsor (anything for a buck!) then letting every Lincoln Mercury salesman in the tri-state area get to peel back a number off the outfield wall.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Everything? They booked REO Speedwagon, you ungrateful jerk. And then they ruined things by bringing in Foreigner without Lou Gramm. F'in Wilpons.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: And while I'm submitting, Solo picks the right cue and nails it. That's 8601 N 59th Place, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253 --- where the hunting's good and the schools are to die for. You're up, Solo. Nicely played. So how does one find these, do I google "former homes of ex-Mets"?
