Then I got to thinking, if it's just between the O's and Mets (big assumption) he may not need to. He might be playing this perfectly. Who knows. Glad to hear the Mets are sniffing around though. Since I'm the only dissenter to this point, would the votes be the same if--all other things being equal--the team offering the 1-year deal was anyone other than the Mets?
  2. I'll take the $75 mil. Sorry guys. I have a hard time taking a 1-year offer seriously when I have a 5-year offer on the table. Plus, if I'm supposed to get the feels from my time with the Mets last year, and that's supposed to sway me, well, shouldn't the Mets show me a little more love than 1 year? Also I'm trying to be realistic. I've been on four teams in the last two seasons and none of them are tripping over each other trying to re-sign me. I better take the money now, because it might not be there next year. Plus I get to play alongside my man-crush Adam Jones.
  3. Big HR off Strasburg, when Strasburg was absolutely cruising, in the final game of the sweep in September. Led off the 8th to tie the game; later in inning Cespedes crushed Storen's soul.

The fact that the Browns are such a dysfunctional outfit means there's probably nowhere to go but up. Yeah but the Browns routinely shit-can their front office guys and coaches pretty quickly. They'll be going on their seventh GM in 12 years, and 6th HC in 9 years (and those numbers don't include Mike Holmgren, who was a team president in those years). Job security is not guaranteed with that team.
  5. Um, what?? Per Sherman... Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 I have learned Paul DePodesta leaving #Mets to run the NFL Cleveland Browns as executive VP, answerable only to team owner/pres. God, is working for the Wilpons so bad that you go to the dumpster fire that is the Mistake by the Lake?
  6. I know many calendars are available in retail in September. Not sure if that's the case here but might explain some things
  7. Centerfield wrote: 'Tears of Joy': A bit too much Jim Breuer for my tastes and somewhat skimpy on actual hi-lights (possibly because FOX didn't own enough of them) but still worth seeing. I think that's all I need to hear to skip it. Am I the only one that finds no entertainment value at all in Jim Breuer's recaps? To me, it just seems like an annoying guy screaming. I'm with you 100%.
  8. He loved saying "we really hit the dickens out of the ball" on those M&MD interviews. In fact that statement is just about all I remember from his tenure.
  9. This might be Little Solo's first venture into big boy Mets reading. When I'm done with it, that is.
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: I saw a blurb that called Swanson, a SS out of Vanderbilt, is the 4th #1 overall pick to be dealt away before ever playing for the team that picked him. Not sure who all the others are and I'm sure none have been dealt so quickly (remember the one-year rule was recently waived). I did come up with Adrian Gonzalez: 2000 #1 by Florida, traded three years later (along with two other players) to the Rangers for Ugeth Urbina. Shawn Abner?
  11. Gyorko always struck me as a likely future Cardinal.
  12. The Seahawk all-blues are good. I dislike their white tops, though.
  13. I don't get the hypothetical straight up Stanton-for-Harvey deal. Guy is always hurt and is owed about 600 trillion dollars for the next 46 years. This team wouldn't pick up the Tulo contract, and there going to turn around and grab one that is almost 3 times longer and more costly? If you want to go straight-up, I'd say go for someone pre-big payday, so I'd advocate the Rizzos, Bryants, Betts' and Bogaerts' of the world.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Weiters takes the QO. There goes the Adam Jones trade scheme. Fuckshit. This seems surprising to me. Isn't he a Boras guy?
  15. FWIW in my lurking on Nats boards in August/September, fans loved this guy and pointed to his absence as one of the big reasons they fell short. Otherwise I got nothing.
  16. So they asked for deGrom and settled on Erick Aybar. They know how to drive a hard bargain, I tell you.
  17. Barring an agent from negotiations? Are there ramifications to this? Isn't it the player's right to have representation in those negotiations? If not it should be. F* Boras, but F* the Marlins and their rink-dink front office.
  18. Heyward is definitely intriguing and best available, but my gut says he's re-signing with St. Louis
  19. Any chance we can make an offer to pry Adam Jones from the Os? He's 30 and 3 years left on his deal at about $16mill per. Kind of feel like he'd fit in great in this lineup. They'll need a catcher with Wieters leaving via FA (we have d'Arnaud & Plawecki) They could use a starter (we have depth thereMatz?) And a prospect (Nimmo?) I have no idea if Matz/Plawecki/Nimmo would get me laughed off the phone or if that's giving up way too much. I realize Jones is one of their foundation guys, so they'll probably need to be blown away. I don't know, maybe Jones isn't the right guy, but I'd kind of like the Mets to be working the trade angle more than the FA angle here.
  20. Good suggestions. I'm also fairly certain we'll see the division clincher against Cincinnati.
  21. I loved Robles in Aug/Sep, and hope he gets the opportunity to pitch more important innings next year. And not ignored like he was in October.
  22. Use this thread to pick the games you expect to see (or would like to see) as a future SNY Mets classic. I'll start: 7/31: The Wilmer game vs. the Nats on trade deadline day (the one that started it all). 8/24: David returns; goes upper deck, Mets hit 8 homers in a comeback win over the Phillies. 9/8: Nats bullpen implodes, Mets overcome 7-1 deficit, then Kirk goes kaboom off Papelbon. 9/9: Mets again beat Nats bullpen; Cespedes, in the middle of his torrid stretch, goes deep off Storen to ice it. 9/13: Mets down to last strike, use 3-run bomb by Murphy to propel them to extra inning win in Turner Field. What other 2015 games do you expect to find on SNY in the near future?
