  1. Hmmm. The team that eliminated the Yankees vs. the team that eliminated the Mets. Easy choice for me. Go Tiggers!
  2. Thanks to the Mets, and Jose Reyes especially, for showing my 7-year old daughter the joys of baseball, and of being a Mets fan. In April, she was a little kid who watched off and on. By August, she knew how many stolen bases Reyes had by the time he brushed the dirt off his jersey. And by September we were trying to duplicate the Reyes/Delgado home run celebration. Thanks to this magical season that ended too soon, I have another baseball companion for life. I shed a little tear last night as the final out was recorded, but not for myself. It was because I'd have to deliver the really sad news to my little girl that she won't be seeing her favorite player's smile and joy for the game until April. I never thought any season could top 1985 or 1986 in my heart. But 2006 may turn out to be my favorite Mets season ever.
  3. Yes, they won, but Ronnie would not have gotten many Schaeffer points for his performance in either of his Game 7s.
  4. ]They won the last one he started, didn't they?Nope. See Los Angeles, 1988.
  5. Darling is throwing out the first pitch tonight. This concerns me. He and Game 7s don't necessarily agree with each other.
  6. Saberhagen????And, uh, Bob, you do realize that Doc Gooden is unavailable, right? His overall point is probably right, though. Seinfeld and Broderick were there. I'd send them out before Matt Dillon.
  7. Looks like he was in the tunnel and someone said, you should have a Met hat...put this on.
  8. If my count is right, the Mets have played 8 postseason games at Shea in which a win would clinch the series for them. They're 7-1 in such games, the only loss being the 12-inning loss in game 4 of the 73 LCS. 1969 NLCS game 3 - Win 1969 WS game 5 - Win 1973 NLCS game 4 - Loss 1973 NLCS game 5 - Win 1986 WS game 7 - Win 1999 NLDS game 4 - Win 2000 NLDS game 4 - Win 2000 NLCS game 5 - Win
  9. Whatever happened to getting 2 strikes on a guy and throwing 97MPH cheese up in the zone to get him to chase? Whatever, I think the stat I saw is that batters are 7 for 12 off Wagner in his last two appearances. Something's not right.
  10. I thought I heard on FAN that Milledge has been working out in Port St. Lucie. If true, it lends credibility to the idea that he'd be activated for a World Series (if necessary).
  11. Perez is getting a really big benefit of the doubt to let him go on 3 days rest after his last outing...the kind of benefit of the doubt Trax would never get from Willie. I think that's unfair...and short-sighted on his part. Wasn't it Willie, just a week and a half ago, who went all out with his bullpen to win a game 3 in LA so that he wouldn't have to throw Perez out there in game 4? I said it in another thread, and I'll repeat it here: all year long Willie has been saying the same thing: "these are my guys, this is the way we do things." Bringing a 3-13 starter back on 3 days rest when your 15-game winner is on full rest goes against that. and to the point that Trax saps the energy out of the Home Field advantage...he--and the crowd--were just fine before a packed house at Shea when they clinched the NL East.
  12. No 4-pitch walks, Mainey. Make 'em earn it.

    Optimism

Optimism... Maine for 6 Heilman for 2 Wagner for 1 and it's on to Game 7.
  14. When Mota got Wilson in the 8th inning of game 1, it was Bradford, not Heilman, warming in the pen to face Pujols. I think Willie feels the same as you, Edgy.
  15. At the risk of getting hammered as bad as Trachsel in game 3, I'm coming out and endorsing Trachsel as the game 7 (if necessary) starter, as long as he's healthy. Guessing here, but I would bet that Darren Oliver would be the first person to ever start a Game 7 (if necessary) without having made a single start all season. Do we really want to risk that? My reasonings for Trax in Game 7 (if necessary): - this is subjective, but I have a hard time believing that he's not chomping at the bit to redeem himself. He did win 15 games this year. And I believe he'll be alright...and I think the Shea crowd will be behind him at the start. - If Trax has another poor outing, Oliver will be there, just like he has all season to pick the starter up. If Oliver starts and struggles, I don't think you can count on Trax to come out of the bullpen (different mentality and all that) to right the ship. - Willie's talked all year about "these are my guys, these are my guys; we'll do what we've done all year." Panicking and starting Oliver, IMO, goes against that.
  16. Interesting. So traveling for work has an affect on your residency status? Seems kinda lousy for the guy who works and travels year-round.
  17. ^^^Come on JD, you've gotta know that she was gettin' it from Steve Sanders on 90210.
  18. Centerfield wrote: The best thing he did was not suck until the Mets had scored a ton of runs. Pretty much. But, I look at it this way: he only walked one guy, which was unexpected to me. And also, he scattered his runs. No big innings to get the crowd into it.
  19. ESPN reporting Macha out in Oakland. Didn't we go through this last year?
  20. Oliver Perez at the plate has a swing that reminds me of the guy from the Lotto commercial who bought the baseball team.
  21. OK, let's look at the bright side a little bit. The last pitcher before Oliver Perez to get a start in the postseason after finishing 10 games below .500 during the regular season was Albie Lopez in 2001. They also had one other thing in common: both Lopez and Perez were acquired via trade during the season. So what's the bright side? Lopez's team, the Diamondbacks of Arizona, went on to win the World Series. So there's hope! Let's go out there, kick ass, and win ballgames. Because I really don't want to spend the next three months thinking "woulda, coulda, shoulda" about injuries if they lose.
  22. Johnny Dickshot wrote: 1) Make the plays behind him (his K's will help some but as we've seen the last 2 nights if you don;t make the plays behind a shaky starting pitcher, you stand a great chance of losing). JD makes a good point here. Think about the Cards last two nights. I can think of some plays where it looked like a hit off the bat, but their guys were in position to make plays. I'm specifically thinking of Eckstein and Belliard making plays on the other side of second base. Meanwhile, on Spiezio's triple I think Green was playing in Kansas, and on the foul pop that Endy couldn't grab, where exactly was he? Those two balls had a lot of air time.
  23. Just popped in to say I've been a Trachsel supporter in the past, but could he have come up any smaller tonight?
  24. - Agreed on Maine not throwing strikes - Didn't like Valentin swinging at first pitch after two walks when he's 0 for 14 at that point. Result: DP. - Green: great effort on the Spiezio triple. But if you get there with that much time to spare and get your glove on it...make the catch. - Oh, yeah. Paulie, run out those ground balls, please.
  25. Within a half hour of starting their show, Mike and the Mad Dog griped about stealing other team's traditions...Sweet Caroline, Sandman, etc. Like this is important. (side note, I agree on Sweet Caroline) But they said the Mets fans did the Roll Call, and I was in the stadium and didn't hear it. Anyone else hear it? I don't know why the Mets allow them to do their show from Shea...they avoid talking about the Mets, and when they do, it's to stir up trouble.
