  1. 38-45 million, per Buster Olney, citing MLB sources. Wow.
  2. We can hope Citicorp at least stays around for a while. My one wish for a corporate sponsor was that it was a stable one, so that we weren't renaming the ballpark every other year like in SF and Arizona.
  3. I was surprised by the Drew thing. That's an awful lot of cash to walk away from. Seems to me that Boras is terribly overrating both his client and his client's value on the open market.
  4. Opinion: He did it to double up on meal money. Fact: Jerry Koosman was 3-0 with a 2.39 ERA in four World Series starts with the Mets.

    Timo for #6?
  6. Another "generate a headline and a story out of nothing" here. Mussina has told friends the Mets would be an option. A "baseball official" tells the paper the Mets "would have to consider him." Hardly worth the big headline.
  7. Hitting a gimpy Floyd with 2 on and no out, was cautious, not aggressive?C'mon Wally.
  8. ]Actually, there have been eleven: Spahn, Chance, Marshall, Jones, Saberhagen, Scott, Hershiser, Viola, Glavine, Cone, and Martinez. Damn, missed Dean Chance. Mike Marshall the Hitter once dated Belinda Carlisle of the Go Gos. Stanley Jefferson?
  9. One of ten men to wear the Mets uniform either before or after winning a Cy Young with anotther team. Mike Marshall (the pitcher)?
  10. What's on second. Frank Tavares
  11. Lost Game 4 of the 73 NLCS and Game 3 of the 73 World Series. Doug Flynn
  12. Howie Rose saw him once on Family Feud. Buzz Capra.
  13. So with 2006 in the rearview, I thought I'd revisit my H team with a couple minor changes. Orlando Hernandez joins the rotation, bumping Aaron Heilman to the bullpen and Eric Hillman back to imaginary Triple A. We Look forward to 2007 and hope Philip Humber can stabilize the rotation. 1b: Keith Hernandez 2b: Ron Hunt SS: Bud Harrelson 3b: Jim Hickman LF: Rickey Henderson CF: Darryl Hamilton RF: Steve Henderson C: Todd Hundley SP: Mike Hampton SP: Pete Harnisch SP: Orlando Hernandez SP: Orel Hershiser RP: Doug Henry RP: Jay Hook RP: Roberto Hernandez RP: Aaron Heilman RP: Tom Hausman Bench: Lenny Harris Danny Heep Butch Huskey Ron Hodges Clint Hurdle Don Hahn Jason Hardtke Richard Hidalgo Manager: Gil Hodges First Base Coach: Frank Howard Third Base Coach: Whitey Herzog Bench Coach: Rogers Hornsby Pitching Coach: Charlie Hough Bullpen Coach: Vern Hoscheit

    Poo Hole

If you had told me a month ago that the Cardinals would win the World Series, I would have guessed that Pujols was Superman in the postseason and today he'd be the toast of the baseball world. Instead, he was nothing too special offensively, and he's getting hammered nationally, this story and the Glavine thing after game one the reasons, primarily. Now stories are out about how difficult he is in the clubhouse and with the press. And here I always thought Albert was a good guy.
  15. I can see Jose not waiting out the Mets, but I don't believe that he's going to have a lot of suitors offering 2-year deals.
  16. Hate it. And I hate it more when it's started by fans who seemingly have no clue about what's going on in the game. I was at a game this year, it was the top of the 7th or 8th, a one-run game, and the Braves had a runner on second. And these people were trying to get a wave going. Clueless.
  17. Win tonight, St. Louis. Why? Because road teams have not fared well in WS Games 6 & 7. Since the last team to win a World Series Game 7 on the road (the 79 Pirates), there have been 23 WS Games 6 or 7. The home team has gone 19-4 in those games. Seven times (in 10 chances) since 1979 a team has come home trailing 3-2 and won both to take the series. The road winners? 1981 Dodgers won game 6 in Yankee Stadium 1992 Blue Jays won game 6 in Atlanta 1997 Indians won game 6 in Florida (then lost game 7) 2003 Marlins won game 6 in Yankee Stadium
  18. Well, who went? Since it was a World Series Game 3, I'm guessing Reyes led off the first with a homer?
  19. Edgy, after incorrectly guessing the first time, I looked up the Giants roster. I believe you're missing a certain relief pitcher who has a brief Metly past. And I think two of the "C" coaches are Chris Chambliss and Chuck Cottier.
  20. True story: I sat in upper deck Section 3 for that game. In the top of the 10th, after the Sox had scored 2, Mets fans were leaving! Leaving! Then someone in the section next to mine yelled out, "youse'll be sorry when dey score 3 in da bottom of da inning to win it." Then, in the bottom of the inning, about four Sox fans moved out of their seats and were standing down by the tunnel. They were cheering their team on, nothing obnoxious or anything, but nothing a Met fan really wanted to see, either. I swear the Mookie ball had not stopped rolling and all four of them were gone, through the tunnel never to be seen again. Jeremy Schaap had a feature about Buckner and Mookie on SportsCenter this morning. No real new story here, but they did show video of the play that I had not seen before. Looked like it was shot from a hand held camera at the far end of the dugout. You got to see Knight score, and the camera followed Mookie from the field down the tunnel. The tunnel scene is funny in itself, as all these cops are congratulating the Mets
  21. Without freakin checking, I guess four on the first question Bonds, Alou, Vizquel, Finley. Then again, I don't even know how old Acta is, so for me this is probably an exercise in futility.
  22. Don't you mean 33 years ago? Willie did play (allegedly) in the 1973 series.
  23. Adam Eaton is a free agent, right? I know he was hurt a lot this year, but is he a middle of the rotation option?
  24. I will remember that road trip in June. For a week and a half stretch they were unbeatable, and it was incredible to watch.
  25. Wainwright was ripe to be picked. He was up in the zone, gave up 2 hits, a walk, and a screaming liner by Reyes. To bunt or not to bunt...I think Willie had Cliff in the on deck circle thinking Cliffy would be the tying run. In that case you send Cliff up and hope he turns on one. I don't think Willie really thought through what he would do if the second runner got on. I think you have to bunt--whether it's Woodward, Hernandez, or a pitcher--and get the top of your lineup up with 2 runners in scoring position. Like I said, Wainwright could have been had. Shea would have been insane if Reyes was up with the tying run on second. Enormous pitch...Welke giving Wainwright the high strike call against Cliff. Borderline pitch that changed the whole tenor of the at bat, and of the inning. Bad job by both Cliff and Beltran not knowing that this kid will go to the hook with 2 strikes...he did it to Valentin just two days ago.
