    DFAQ

I agree. The Fielding Bible has Tejada costing us two runs with the glove in addition to not hitting at all, so unless Flores at short is like Duda in center I don't really see what we have to lose.
  2. It's not like our other starters at Coors Field looked any better, and for four innings Mejia fared a lot better than either Wheeler or Colon did. I didn't catch the game, but from what I've seen of Mejia he can get rattled if things start to go wrong. That's something he'll need to work on. But I'm all for him working on that here, in the rotation.
  3. He had no chance at first, and the runner got down the line in a hurry. Of course, the latter implies that the runner could have waited to make sure the ball was in the air.

  5. I think Brown got sent to Vegas when Abreu got called up. Satin just needs some ABs, and I think D'Arnaud has been a bit unlucky and I'm not really worried. Granderson, however, looks lost. He goes through stretches like this, and hopefully this will correct itself on its own, but so far not so good.
  6. Well there was no reason not to check out his throwing session, but 19 other teams sent people too. There aren't too many teams who wouldn't make room for Hanrahan in their pen if he's all the way back. And it only takes one of the teams to think Hanrahan's asking price isn't disproportionate to his value.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That would really be a black eye for the organization, if their mascot assassinated the President of the United States. But the notoriety that comes from being threatened by Secret Service for "walking while Mr. Met" is great PR. In all seriousness, Secret Service are obligated to take no chances and have no sense of humor where the President's protection is concerned. I totally get that. But this wasn't such a complicated logistical issue that a few simple precautions (like having him put his costume on in the presence of an agent) couldn't have prevented the poor guy from walking around the park fearing for his life.

  9. I think you can trade a DLed player with the commissioner's approval.
  10. I think Minaya wanted Randolph to go out with a win, but forgot to consider other factors. Whatever. I still think Minaya deserves more credit for 2006 and more blame for 2007 (all those pitching moves that backfired spectacularly) anyway, but he had the longer leash. I was more surprised by the treatment of Peterson. I remember a thread here a couple of weeks before the firing regarding rumors that the higher-ups were blaming him for Perez and Heilman, which I thought and still think was entirely unfair.
  11. Metsmarathon basically said what I would have wanted to say, only ten times better. Francesa and Esiason are on the losing side of history. The rest of us won't let the door hit their asses on the way out.
  12. Davis 4 Granderson 2 Gee 2 Lagares 1 Torres 0.5 Rice 0.5
  13. Too early. There's a real possibility that the Nationals are simply a better team than us right now (shh, don't tell anybody). Plus when the bullpen era is 3467.83, there's only so much the manager can do. Well I suppose he could leave his starters in, but if anything Wheeler threw too many pitches today.
  14. Farnsworth gets the call up. I thought his spring performance screamed "Stick a fork in me, I'm done!" but I've been wrong before.
  15. Personally I'd bring up Dice-K, followed by DeGrom. Black's spring performance screamed "not ready yet." We have plenty of depth in starters, and we should take advantage of that. I think it's obvious that Valverde will close until/unless he gives the Mets reasons to look elsewhere.
  16. I'll be more concerned about Parnell's velocity if it stays this low after a week or two. He was a little bit of luck away from a fairly routine inning, so no need to panic. Lannan does not profile as a situational pitcher -- a guy who at his best gives up loads of singles and has no platoon splits is not somebody you bring in to close out an inning with a man on third. There might not be a right way to use Lannan if he doesn't pitch better, but that was the wrong way. Torres and Rice have been better than that and I'm not worried about them. Yet.
  17. And you get the sense somebody got on his case, and next time up he swung at pitch one to get the SF.
  18. Eric Young is a good example of the somebody who needs to be on the aggressive side of "aggressive, but patient. " I felt he let too many fastballs go last year, and he started this season by taking one fastball and fake-bunting at a second one, falling behind 0-2 and eventually striking out. Sometimes the best way to draw walks is to make pitchers pay for just putting one over.
  19. Oh no, don't compare Brown to Cowgill!
  20. 81-81, third, no.
  21. Torres started and pitched four innings on Sunday, so it was odd seeing him pitch in that spot. I guess they're trying to see how quickly he can bounce back if he's used in a spot start or long relief? (Answer: more than three days.)
  22. seawolf17 wrote: END THE SEASON NOW! You could at least wait until the Mets gets their traditional Opening Day victory before saying this.
  23. I just think it's funny that we were debating Mejia's readiness four years ago and we're still sort of debating it now. Dice-K's been hit hard this spring, and if he doesn't improve significantly today there really should be nothing to discuss.
  24. The bar is lower for Flores as a backup shortstop than it would be for a starter; basically if he's no worse than Turner, the team could carry him. Then the question is if they want him getting regular at bats (or innings in the field). So Seratelli is still in the mix. Brown would be the likely beneficiary if Davis or Duda gets traded, which still may or may not happen.
  25. Mejia should be on the list too. Looking at those I'm thinking the seven are Parnell, Valverde, Torres, Familia, Mejia, Rice, Lannan. I think Eveland would have gotten more innings by now if the Mets were seriously considering him, but that might change now especially since Black is pitching his way out of what looked like a pretty safe spot. Mejia or Lannan might be needed to start for Niese as well, which would open a spot.
