  1. I think Duda will produce something comparable to his .246/.342/.424 career line. Davis will outperform him and it won't be close -- but that doesn't mean we're keeping Davis.
  2. Doesn't make the team, and winds up a small piece in a trade.
  3. He'll be up and down, literally and figuratively. I'll say 30 IP up here with a 3.80 ERA.
  4. Barto will finish with 15 wins and a 3.00 ERA. Whether he's here beyond July depends on the rest of the team.
  5. I'll add 40 points to his BA but otherwise I agree with Vic.
  6. I think DeGrom will wind up in the pen, and we won't see him in Queens until 2015.
  7. I could still see 30 homers and a .260/.340/.520 line from him if he keeps his head on, but I won't guarantee that happens (or would happen here if it does). I get the sense that the Mets want to give first base to Duda, and Davis has been around long enough where he can (and most likely will) refuse a demotion.
  8. Harvey's pitched to his potential while the others haven't yet, and the long-term downside of TJS is really not that big at this point. He's still the safest bet.
  9. If I'm talking to Cleveland, it's about Francisco Lindor. It would make far more sense to sign Drew than trade for Cabrera.
  10. I'd also guess Omaha is at least a bit less hitter-friendly than some of the other PCL parks, too. As a backup, Seratelli wouldn't need to be that good of a defensive SS if he is a viable pinch-hitter. I think his chances of coming north are pretty good. The thing you need to consider with Flores is that he's probably a better hitter than Turner was, and may not field any less poorly. I can totally understand wanting him to start at AAA over using him as a reserve up here, but the latter is an option I'm willing to keep open if there's a chance it makes the team better.
  11. Right. I'm withholding judgement on all interested parties until I see what kind of deal Drew signs.
  12. It's definitely not fair to Fregosi. There are some interesting parallels with this year's team, though. Alderson has invested heavily in players who, like Fregosi at the time of the trade, are coming off seasons plagued by diminished performance and/or injuries. And in Ike Davis, we have a player with very obvious upside who hasn't yet shown that he gets it. Hopefully our current staff is wiser/luckier than the Mets were in 1972.
  13. Duda is not changing his offensive philosophy, though. And thats fine. Some have criticized Duda for not being aggressive enough in RBI situations. The curse of anybody with a high walk rate. People said that about Ted Williams, for Christ's sake.
  14. So last year was a big lovefest for Rivera, and this year will be an even bigger lovefest for Jeter. Whatever. I tune out the people who fawn over them anyway. And to be fair, both had great careers.

    Valverde

Very nearly all of our acquisitions (Colon excepted) this offseason are guys who've been solid in the past but are coming off down years. I'm still kind of under the impression that they all have to bounce back for us to contend, but I have no qualms about giving minor league deals to guys with upside.
  16. Cruz has a career OPS+ of 114. So does Duda. Davis is 112. And that's ignoring the elephant in the room when discussing Cruz,

    Ralph Kiner

The ending is never happy for anybody, but he had as good a life as you can hope for.
  18. Reserve middle infielders who can give you a .700 OPS aren't that easy to find and will always have a place on a National League bench, even if they're not that good in the field. I'd rather have him on my bench than a glove guy who's less useful in a pinch-hitting situation than half of my pitchers.
  19. The Mets will deal for one of the four shortstops in the consensus list of top ten prospects in the game (or for Jurickson Profar, who still kind of counts as an elite shortstop prospect). Make a mental note that it was in this thread and then promptly forget it when something else happens.
  20. Did anybody else notice that the article lists Alomar, Vaughn, and Burnitz as "free-agent busts" when Phillips traded for all three?
  21. Lance Berkman. One of the game's elite hitters when he was healthy. With a career line of .293/.406/.537, you could argue he's actually been somewhat overlooked.
  22. Any night from the 17th to the 21st would be ideal for me, as that is spring break week and I otherwise teach nights.
  23. I do think they can use another quality reliever. I'm still a bit puzzled that Alderson thought $2M for Hawkins was too steep, especially if they're willing to go much higher for guys who had worse years last year. But we'll see how this plays out.
  24. I'd love to know what Rodney did differently in 2012 that made that season light years better than anything else he's ever done. You take away that season and he's... OK. Maybe not even that.
  25. Did well for somebody coming off an extended injury-related holiday. He struck me as the kind of guy who'd do better his second year back, but I guess that's for the Indians to find out.
