  1. The big concern for the league is (or at least should be) that Cano has probably been doing this for a while, without getting caught. Which raises the possibility that there are others, perhaps more than a few.
  2. I expect him to stay when Frazier comes off the DL. Jose, it's been nice knowing you.
  3. So we pushed Thor back three days to give DeGrom one inning?
  4. Swihart could be mediocre on a good day and still be an upgrade. I'm guessing he could be had for a price that wouldn't be objectionable. I'm not sure the Red Sox would have any use for Harvey, though.
  5. I'd love Swihart for Harvey, but at this point I'd settle for a souvenir ice cream cup with vanilla/chocolate twist.
  6. I get the sense that he came back way before he was ready. Between that, how horrible Vargas has looked, and DeGrom almost being rushed back before somebody came to their senses, I'm beginning to fear that the Mets learned absolutely nothing from last season's misadventures.
  7. He's only had one good start since the first one, but that didn't stop him from getting the emergency call-up for tomorrow's start. Welcome to the show!

The Mets did the right move, but most people wouldn't accept a demotion if there is any chance that one of the remaining 29 teams will take a flier on them at the big league level.

Not the way I foresaw his Mets tenure ending some three years or so ago. I wouldn't have foreseen completely agreeing that it had to be done, either.
  10. Centerfield wrote: Defense aside, that's 3 blown saves in the last 10 days for Familia. He's blown 3 of his last 5 chances. Every closer goes through a slump, but this isn't going to cut it. The first involved an inherited runner in the eighth inning, and the third involved an infield single and a fly ball that should have been caught. And he has a 1.93 ERA. Familia is near the bottom on the list of worries.
  11. Agreed. He's their sixth best starter right now, and that's assuming you aren't even considering Lugo and Gsellman. And I think he has a better chance of working things out under the watch of Callaway here than in Las Vegas.
  12. Other than Cabrera, none of our regulars are off to that good of a start. And we have the best record in the National League. My biggest worry? That our record will keep Dom Smith in Vegas longer than he needs to be there.
  13. Serviceable. Only two years removed from an excellent season. Off to a horrible start, but that might lower the asking price. I wouldn't pay much, but I might not need to.
  14. Realmuto is pretty good with the bat and glove, so I wouldn’t sell him short. That being said, Plawecki’s timetable is not that long, Realmuto is not ready right now, and Nimmo is one injury away from being needed. Carlos Ruiz is still on the market. He’s way past his prime, but if you want an experienced major leaguer for basically nothing, he’ll do.
  15. I don't get this, but we've pulled all the right levers so far. Let's see how this pans out.
  16. So he's a Smithtown native?
  17. Conlon smoked in his first start at Vegas yesterday: 6 IP, 1 run, 4 hits, 9/1 K/BB. Unfortunately the pen imploded and the 51s blew the game.
  18. It takes a while, but he gets up in June and hits .275/.350/.450 the rest of the way.
  19. .280/.325/.440, but mostly what JCL said.
  20. He'll be closing for the Ducks in 2020. This year, he'll log a lot of frequent-flyer miles settling between Vegas and here, but he won't force the Mets to keep him around.
  21. Not sure the Mets ever had a more universally liked player. I also like the orange stripe idea.
  22. His numbers would look a lot better from a 25-year-old with options than they do from a 29-year-old without them. Still, he has the potential to be useful.
  23. A waiver claim from the Pirates, that's who! https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brentbr01.shtml A 29-year-old long-time minor leaguer coming off his best season (31 HR, .863 OPS in Pawtucket), Brentz qualifies as a righty power bat for the outfield. We could certainly use the depth in that regard, but sending him down would subject him to waivers yet again.
  24. I'm a bit concerned he's already had his best month of the season. I'll say .260/.350/.430, which is more than good enough for a fourth outfielder.
