  2. I really like the way his numbers have improved as he's climbed up the ladder.
  3. His first start in AA was a rocky one (5 runs and 11 hits in 5.2 IP), but it was also a winning one, thanks largely to a 4 for 5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 HR performance by Nick Evans.
  4. Congrats on the ho-hitter. Now if only we can get a Met to pitch one.
  5. And the reason he's not going to St. Lucie? Because he's going to Binghamton instead. His first start is tomorrow.
  6. Who is Mark Cohoon? Well, the 22-year-old just pitched three straight complete game shutouts for Savannah. He is 7-1 with a 1.30 ERA, a 75/17 K/BB ratio and 2 HRs in 90 IP covering 13 starts. He was 9-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 14 starts for Brooklyn last year. He's not overpowering, but he's evidently quite efficient with his pitches. (I'm assuming they have pitch counts in A ball, and he's going the distance without reaching his limit.) He does not appear to be making the jump to St. Lucie with Flores, however. At least not yet.
  7. It's a start, no pun intended. He wasn't likely to be a major-league asset this season anyway, so the short term goal is simply to right the ship.
  8. So nobody likes Ike as much as I do?
  9. Since Ike isn't listed among the eligible players yet, how is that going to work? I'm guessing he'll get listed tomorrow if he plays tonight? And then there will be the same two-day bidding period that normally comes with waivers?
  10. In this deep of a league you can probably still find relievers who'll lower your ERA and WHIP, if nothing else. It wouldn't be the worst use of your last few roster spots. I recommend having a less itchy trigger finger with them than I generally practice myself, though.
  11. I'd say three hours if we work quickly, especially in the late rounds when the talent pool will be so thin that it will be one big crap shoot. I've never been in this deep of a draft, so I don't have much advice to give. Maybe towards the end look for matching halves of a platoon -- the righthanded half will generally only have value to whomever takes the lefthanded half (unless it's somebody like Jonny Gomes, who'll produce well in the AB's he gets). I also wouldn't worry about your bench. If you need to fill a spot due to an injured player, most likely nobody will begrudge you picking up the guy who takes his place. There may be exceptions, though. For example, I'd expect that Alex Cora will only have value to the person who drafts Reyes (and that's assuming Reyes misses Opening Day), but if you grab Beltran you may not be able to wait till the end of the draft to grab Pagan.

  13. I've been wondering where he's been. If any pitching prospect was to be given a shot for this year's pen, it should have been him -- at least if he was healthy.
  14. Nymr83 wrote: ps- this is shaping up to be awesome instead of just another yahoo standard/mixed/public league that anyone can go join on their own anyway, way to go fman Yes, thanks a bunch! And thanks to nymr for running the show in the past.
  15. PS What happens when Carl Crawford gets traded to an NL team in mid-July and we all go all-in bidding for him?
  16. We did 1450 the last two years and it seemed to work out ok. It's consistent with a full season.
  17. Do you think 1250 innings is really enough? It seems like we'll be drafting third-string infielders but leaving fourth and fifth starters out there, the way things are currently structured.
  18. Wow, we're up to 11 now. I'm beginning to think having six infielders and five outfielders active per team is a bit much...

  20. It's good to make your own draft rankings as a reference, or at least know which players you think are worth grabbing ahead of their Yahoo ranking and which are worth avoiding. If for some reason you need to have the computer pick for you, you REALLY need to do your homework or you'll wind up with all the players everybody else thinks are overvalued, plus a few positional imbalances and guys who got injured after the rankings were made.
  21. Any word from our defending champ Vic?
  22. I have a rules question: what happens if there's a trade between leagues?
  23. I'm in, and registered.
  24. Congrats to the Hub City 9!
  25. So how many picks will we be making this time around?
