  1. Nice to see him take an outside pitch the other way. Stick with that approach, dude.
  2. I can't wait until a month from now when he finally decides to go ahead with the surgery.
  3. The Baby Name Wizard will tell you all you need to know about Caleb's resurgence in popularity. Any other name too, for that matter.
  4. This is it
  5. Awesome. Fell asleep in the 13th or 14th, woke up in the 16th, just in time to see Beltran's homer. Watched him cross the plate and get mobbed just as I turned the TV off and happily went back to sleep. Great timing.
  6. Check out the work of Chris Ware too.
  7. Yeah... I didn't hear about Long either, so I checked Rotoworld. I love this sequence of posts. First: May. 19, 2006 - 9:33 pm Yankees signed outfielder Terrence Long to a minor league contract. Long was hitting .229/.260/.292 in 48 at-bats for Triple-A Louisville before the Reds released him earlier this month. It would be bad news if the Yankees need him at any point. Followed almost immediately by this gem: May. 22, 2006 - 1:08 am Yankees purchased the contract of outfielder Terrence Long from Triple-A Columbus. It'd be good news for the rest of the American League if the Yankees fooled around with Long for any length of time.
  8. They stole my tattoo idea, the bastards.
  9. A nice win. I waited out the rain, but as soon as they put a quick 3 runs on the board, I called it a night. Nice to see they got another one after I left.
  10. So, Newsday says the Mets are leaning toward starting Lima on Thursday, and Gonzalez on Friday. Looks like I might have to update the links after all.
  11. I'm not sure it's confirmed that Jeremi Gonzalez will get the start on Thursday. ESPN has Bannister listed, but I think it would be Lima's turn. I put Gonzalez in there just because I'd like to see 'em skip Lima. I'll update the links if someone else gets the call, of course. Another note is... Pujols recently became the fastest player ever to reach 19 homers. He's probably the hottest hitter in baseball right now. Now, that would be fine if there were no other bats in their lineup, but Edmonds is hitting well, and Rolen might be waking up. He's got good numbers against Glavine and Gonzalez... not so much against Trachsel or Lima.
  12. New ballpark, same old Cardinals. The slumping Mets make their first trip to the new Busch Stadium for a 3-game set against the team picked to run away with the NL Central. For now, the Cardinals find themselves battling the Reds for the division lead, but provided they can find some offense from a player not named Pujols, and the pitching holds up (duh), the division should be theirs. As for the Mets, it looks like they wont see reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter this time, so theyve got that going for em. Statistically the two teams are fairly evenly matched, although the Cardinals come into the series on a roll, having won 7 out of their last 10 ballgames. Over the same span, the Mets are merely playing .500 ball. 13. I'm on it.
  14. Heh. True... I guess I'm thinking in terms of RMU as a boxscore notation, rather than a note on a scorecard.
  15. I'd see the difference as : RMU = guy on 2nd moving to 3rd on a grounder to the right side T = guy singles, advancing to 2nd on a throw to the plate
  16. I used to score games while I was watching them on TV, but I'd usually get bored with it by the 4th or 5th inning. My friend and I used to play Nintendo Baseball and score THOSE games. God, what nerds. I'll have to start noting advancements on throws... if I ever drag my ass to another game.
  17. Here's an example of one of my scorecards... the classic "10-run 8th" game.
  18. I don't think there's a right or wrong way to score games, although I have my own way of doing it. If an inning turns over, I do it the same way you do, but I wouldn't continue the 5th in the "5th" column... I'd just shift every inning over to the right by one, and re-number them at the top of the scorecard. As far as advancing runners, I usually draw a solid line to show how far they got on their own, and dashed lines to show how far they advanced for other reasons. I don't write anything to show how they advanced unless it's a steal or passed ball or whatever.
  19. ]he only paid $4 mil for it Maybe he paid cash.
  20. Nice article. 6 bedrooms, 8 acres in Greenwich. I knew I shoulda been a pitcher.
  21. ]called Michael Tucker safe when he was out Exacerbated by the fact that it was a game-winning call, if I remember correctly. And wasn't he quoted as saying he had to catch a plane? Or did we make that up?
  22. DISASSEMBLE?
  23. They're the original TV guys. Vin Scully is awesome. Just an aside... I discovered a great coincidence the other day. When I got married a few years ago, the wedding fell on the same day, October 18, as World Series Game 1. However, I've come to realize that the '86 Series started on that very same date.
  24. Handsome by England standards, maybe.
  25. ]Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J It's funny... I remember before a game in high school, we were hanging around by our bench when the opposing team showed up. They had to walk past us to get to their bench, and as the kid who was pitching that day walked by, he had his walkman on. It was turned up so loud, we could hear that song playing. Of course, we all made fun of him at the time. I don't remember if he shut us down or not. Probably not.
