  1. I never use "we/us" when talking about the team. I'm not on their payroll. I sometimes use "we/us" when talking about the fans, but more often just "the fans". Later

  5. Look at the bright side. At least they're not going to waste a good pitching performance against Lincecum. Ok, so it still hrts. Later
  6. I was hoping this wasn't Willie Kirkland* redux. I'm breathing a little easier now. Later *= Willie hit cleanup on the SF team with Mays and McCovey on it. Then, the pitchers found out the pitch he couldn't hit. He went 2-100 (That is NOT a misprint) and was soon out of baseball.

    The Banner

I'm seeing the dreaded red x in the box instead of a picture on this morning's banner. EDIT: Never mind, the picture just found its way in there. Later
  8. ="Gwreck":2ewh9qp6]I saw this movie last year with Ryan Church and the do-we or don't-we disable him bit. I didn't like it then, either.[/quote:2ewh9qp6] Wasn't that the one in which they fly the guy across the country, just to make sure the problem is aggrivated before they are sure he is really hurt before they DL him? Yeah, I remember that one. Or is that this sequel? I forget. Later
  9. Is it just me (a loaded question) or has Reyes' performance on the field declined since he got married? He seemed to have been improving, but the last full year or so he's doing the same stuff he did as a rookie. We keep talking about his mental mistakes and attitude. We married folks know what marriage can do to your head. Just a thought. Later

  12. Got into my car aound ten tonight. Turned on the Mets game, and they had just won. They were cutting to their typical zillion commercials and then were going to interview Manuel before the highlights. So I turned the station to see if I could pick up the Buffalo game. They were down 3-1 in the bottom of the eleventh. Up came our old pal Angel Pagan, who was playing in his first rehab game for the Herd. The announcer said Angel was 0-5 so far, but had thrown out the potential winning run at the plate in the 9th. Pagan then hit a ball to center which got by the centerfielder for a triple, driving in Robinson Cancel, Argenis Reyes and another guy I'd never heard of. Bisons Win! Bisons Win! The announcer, who had many verbal fumbles during the inning and later recap, had a funny line - "I guess he ran out of ways to make an out". Later
  13. If you want to follow them, I heard them on my car radio on 1520AM the other night. I had been checking the frequency since the AAA season started, but this was the first game I heard. They may have been waiting for the hockey season to end. Oh, the announcer doing the post game show was awful. If you tuned in late, he didn't give the score of the game during the last 10 minutes of his show. All he said was "they won tonight" - no other details. Later
  14. In the year Bob Gibson posted a 1.12 ERA he lost 9 games. When a reporter asked him howcum he lost so many games, Gibson replied "My team got shut out in 6 of them". Stuff happens, even to the great ones. Later

  16. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"] Fair enough about my apparent if-heavy suggestion-- I just meant that the trade wasn't terrible in conception, as a few critics argued at the time it was made, and many, MANY more argued just after Devin Harris started putting up all-star numbers (something that is MUCH easier to do, by the way, on a crap team). Sorry for getting to the party late. Sometimes on a long thread, I look at the last page posts, then try to figure out when had been posted before. Then, if the thread seems interesting, I start at the beginning. This seemed like an interesting one, until I saw what I've bolded above. Memo to Leiteretc, don't throw my team under a bus, especially since it seems like your team has been looking for a true point guard since they drafted Dean Meminger to fill that role. You may now return to your discussion. Later
  17. I just hope Delgado didn't re-injure that hip when he beat out that infield roller. Later
  18. ="Edgy DC":1v7qwep1]That explains the powerful thighs. Mazzilli gained foot speed by being a junior speedskating champ. He was also a foul ball machine last night.[/quote:1v7qwep1] He must have thought he was trying to get the balls to a wing man. I conflate

="John Cougar Lunchbucket":16mzv909]I conflate Vina with Quilvio Veras.[/quote:16mzv909] So do I. I saw them play in a minor league game, wearing different numbers (obviously) and I still couldn't tell them apart. Later Edgy DC May 08 2009 07:45 AM ="seawolf17":9khunjxt]I just conflated Gene Garber and the late Rick Mahler on another board.[/quote:9khunjxt] Tom Gorman conflates Gene Garber and Rick Camp. I (and I imagine others as well) conflate Rick Mahler and Mickey Mahler.
  21. Hmmm Let's see: Giambi Clemens A-Rod now Manny What do they all have in common? Torre If you'd like to see him implicated, raise your hand. Later
