Now that my kid Lutz reached the majors earlier this year, there's room for this skinny pitcher from the Dominican Republic at my dinner table. He's not on anyone's pre or mid season lists, so he needs a home. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=606160 Later
Strikeouts! He's got over 90 in under 60 IP this season (low and high A levels combined). Whatever he's eating, we should feed it to the rest of our pitching prospects. Later

Yes, you read that right. It is a made-for tv movie brought to us by those masters of schlock the Sci-Fi Channel. But I'm still not sure whether it is an almost perfect spoof or if it was terrible because they were playing it straight. Yes, its the re-named characters of the tv show Jersey Shore fighting sharks. When I say re-named, the best example was the bimbo named Nooki. Good or bad? Tell us. Later
we discussed movie remakes of TV shows here: http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/4100/f11_t4147.shtml Thanks, Vic. I forgot about Star Trek II. I wanted to forget about the other Star Trek movies. I have another to add to the list, but don't want to hijack this thread. I'll start a new thread. Later
Which leads me to the question "Has there ever been a movie that was better than the tv show upon which it was based?" I can't recall one, but maybe it is fodder for its own thread. Anyhow, it was the reason I never saw this movie. I thought the tv show was terrible, so why bother? Later
Vic Sage wrote: if you didn't like it that much, why'd you give it an "8"? Mis-entered. Couldn't change it. Thought I gave it a 6. And like Monk, I'd probably drop that a point after thinking about it for a day. I did like the answering of questions from #1 about the oversized space travelers. And I liked the earlier versions/ forms of the alien monsters. And the idea of a (SPOILER ALERT!!) sexually transmitted alien was interesting. But I also agree with most of what you wrote. While watching, I also wondered about why they tried to escape from under the falling ship by moving straight instead of sideways. Later
I saw it today. There was so much hype about it being the prequel to Alien that I wanted to see if it could stand on its own. It could only kneel. Dumb stuff for dumb reasons, as Vic and Monk have said. One reason I went was to see the early evolution/ form of the creatures. Ridley has said how they kept evolving when he was interviewed in those "Making of ... " short promos for numers 3 and 4. I found this version of the creatures, and their "delivery systems". kind of interesting. Maybe if I had seen it in 3-D, Charlize would have made it more worthwhile. Later

Over 10,000 fans were there to see MdD's first AAA home run tonight. They were probably there to see the usual Buffalo Friday night fireworks show. But still ... Later
Rubin's minor league report from today: A scout who recently watched Binghamton said there were three definite major leaguers on the Double-A team -- prized pitching prospect Zack Wheeler, Matt den Dekker (who just was promoted to Buffalo) and right-hander Collin McHugh. McHugh (5-4, 2.48 ERA) was described as a “Dillon Gee type.†Said the scout: “He’s going to pitch in the big leagues. For sure.†Later
Wilmer went 2-6 with a walk, a double and 2 RBI in yesterday's 14 inning St. Lucie win. Most significant, he started the game at second base. No DPs, but no errors, either. (Don't know how many chances for each) Later
Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's getting silly. In his last 60 IP, he's given up 32 hits, has 67Ks and has a .166 ERA. Later That decimal point can't be properly placed. It made me look twice when I saw it on a protected site. EDIT: You're right, checked it on MiLB. Its 1.66. Still nifty. Later
